A second potential heir to Atticus, Battlestained is so named because he was born looking as though he was covered in blood; a very alarming fact to his mother, surely. And indeed, it was often hard to tell, with him, when it was blood and when it wasn't. Constantly in scrapes and misadventures, constantly away from home, it surprised no one the day he simply left for good. He showed up in Dunwich, and the odd nature of the pack intrigued him. It didn't take long before he established himself as an outgoing, respectful and easy to get along with wolf, and Atticus to name him as a potential heir.
