Orangeheart was an optimistic little boy who loved nothing more than to eat and play and laugh with his family. His smile could light up a dark cave, his laughter made the world feel friendly, and everyone loved having him around. His elders said that he lived up to his name because "Orange is always the sweetest". His mother believed that Orange was the most like her of all her pups and she was very proud of him. But she also worried that he may face a dark night of the soul, just as she had, and she worried that she wouldn't have the words to comfort him as her uncle had done for her.
At the Academy, Orange studied speed and agility to prepare for chasing work. His wonderful attitude made his lessons a joy and he was the favorite student of all his teachers. Even when it came to his basic hunting lesson, Orange didn't lose his smile. His mother was surprised, because it was that experience that first showed her there was darkness in the world. But Orange was as sweet as ever. It seemed that Orange was optimistic for a different reason than his mother was. Everyone got an inkling of what that reason was when Orange chose a Howling lesson for his last class. His beautiful voice filled the clearing and echoed in the dens. Alpha Fogfrost said that his soul must be truly pure to make a sound like that.
During his apprenticeship, Orange stuck close to his mother to learn chasing work. The two of them were like peas in a pod, with twin smiles, twin laughs, and twin joy in supporting their pack. Orange's pure soul instinctively understood the balance of darkness and light that his mother had to learn. But that didn't mean he was good at his job right away. Orange struggled to learn the standard formations that the hunting team used most often. He joked about it, but deep down it bothered him. He asked his mother and uncles to help him with extra practice in the evenings after work and after weeks of that, he finally started to get it. Before long, he was up to speed and in formation all the time, and couldn't be happier about it.
On his first birthday, Orange was bursting with enthusiasm for both the party and his future. He had worked hard to earn his place as a chaser and his self-satisfaction bordered on smugness. But his siblings quickly quashed it by reminding him that they were still faster and more agile than him.
Now as an adult, Orange is still the life of every party, the first to reach for the fermented barley and the last to put it down. But he never gets into more trouble than a tasteless joke and his sister Angel always makes sure he gets to bed safely. His packmates wonder how he manages to get up in the morning, but somehow he's always ready for another day on the trail. He knows his mother's prayer for the souls of the prey by heart and he's diligent about saying it after every kill. But he's quickly back to joking around afterwards, making everyone laugh.
