In The Beginning…
The roaming alpha's head lifts at the sound of a howl. The sound is distant yet near at the same time. It's strange, yes, but not totally peculiar to this alpha. There have been rumors of a wolf randomly appearing, claiming to be a god. But this alpha is unsure of what to believe.
Thostrakos is meandering, his path through the forest unmarked. He is a god in his mind. He knows of the rumors his godhood has sparked; "Calls himself Thostrakos. Thinks he's some kind of god. Could be. Has magic," and so on. None of these rumors are true, so they do not matter to him. He has a single job: teach. He stops, lifting his head and howling.
Thostrakos's howl is what this alpha hears. The howl sparks the wary alpha's curiosity. Then, behind this alpha, a stick snaps into what may as well be a million atom-sized pieces.
Thostrakos chuckles as the alpha jumps in surprise. "Cower before your god, mortal wolf," He growls.
"You are no god! Just some stupid demon from hell!" The alpha spins around, standing tall before the strange new wolf.
"A demon would have killed you, mortal," Thostrakos seems to smile, but it's not a kind smile.
"Cease calling me that, you strange, incongrous creature," The alpha orders.
"No,'' says the 'strange, incongrous creature' that is Thostrakos.
"What even is your name?" The alpha is growing irritated.
"Thostrakos," Unlike the alpha, Thostrakos is perfectly calm.
"No one can pronounce that except you!"
"Well, you can call me 'my lord,'" Thostrakos flashes his fangs warningly.
The alpha does not heed Thostrakos's warning. Pushing on, they say the one thing they probably(wink wink) should not have.
"The only lord here is Tala. And she's not even a lord, she's a lady!"
"Your precious Tala is below me! I am a god above all!"
"Dude. You are so not a god. A demon? Perhaps. But definantly not a god."
"I AM A GOD, FOOLISH MORTAL! YOU SHOULD BE BOWING TO ME AND ME ALONE!"
"Ri-i-i-ght. You're totally a god." The alpha sounded skeptical.
"Dude, I can drop kick you all the way around the world. Don't make me," Thostrakos snarled.
"Whatever, man. I got a pack service to lead. I gotta dip. 'Kay? I'm already late."
As the alpha leaves, Thostrakos stays perfectly still, watching. It seems he is waiting for something to happen. Nothing actually happens.
Thostrakos Ruins A Service
You're running late already to the pack's service to honor the one and only Tala as you run through the camp, skidding to a stop behind your pack members.
"Oh, hey, Alpha. You're late," A wolf, Sulvur, barks at you as you arrive.
"Yes, sorry. I was stopped by a strange, incongrous creature that claimed to be a god. The thing said, and I quote, 'Your precious Tala is below me! I am a god above all!'" It is not just your own voice you hear as you speak.
You turn and see that wolf who claimed he was a god behind you, grinning. You didn't hear him approach, and you can tell no one else had seen him approach either, yet the entire pack was gathered in the center of the clearing. Oh, the entire pack! The pups! You look around franticly.
"Do not worry. I did not touch your pups. They are safe. New Befriended Wolf, on the other paw, is not," Thostrakos grins.
"That- that is just no- not cool, Albatross," You growl.
"That's not my name," Thostrakos sighs.
"You know, at this point I don't care. You hurt my packmate. You need to leave."
"Fine. But you were going to kill New Befriended Wolf later."
Your packmates are staring at you. Then Sulvur speaks. "Alpha. What the heck was that about? I mean, he said your plan down to the wire. The dude stared you down. He'll be back."
Many months pass
Many months pass with no sign of the strange wolf.
Many months later…
Many moths later, when the pack is entering a period of termoil, Thostrakos returns.
Many months later, when Thostrakos has returned, the Alpha learns a crucial lesson.
Many moths later, when the Alpha learns that lesson, the pack is saved by an unlikely hero.
Many months later, when the pack is saved, Thostrakos is truly a god.
Many months later, when Thostrakos is a god, no one thinks he is because that would ruin the story. Seriously though, it would ruin the story.
Dude, back to the actual story?
It had been many months since the last encounter with Thostrakos, and the pack had fallen into disrepair. The alpha was no longer trusted after Thostrakos revealed the plans to kill New Befriended Wolf after the pups were adolescents.
Thostrakos returned to the pack after many months away, though he had gotten wind that the pack's social order had fractured and fracases(fights) were becoming more common.
"Alpha, that odd demon thing is back," Sulvur calls as he spots Thostrakos vaporating into the center of the camp from where he lays in a patch of shade by the camp enterance.
"Dude, are you kidding me? I'm not a demon!" Thostrakos growls. "I'm a god!"
"'Dude' I don't care. Demon. God. No difference to me."
"Dude, where's your alpha? The two of us need to speak."
"Dude, if I told you, I would have to kill you. Which, by the way, I would gladly do. You're an annoying-"
"Dude! Sulvur!" The Alpha sticks their head out of the den in which was rather nice to lounge in.
"Ah, I knew you were here. Mind if I join you, my dude? We have matters to discuss," Thostrakos yawns.
"Two things. First: dude, that's creepy. Second: do I have a choice?"
"No."
One question
Before we go any farther, you may have a question for me. You do? Great. Do share? Are you done with the word 'dude' yet? Dude, that's your question? Sure. I can be done with it. Now can I continue? Thank you.
Matters are discussed and gods are smacked
"Hm. You have comfortable living quarters for someone whose pack is in total anarchy every waking minute," Thostrakos grinned, "so, little mortal, how've you been?"
The Alpha smacks Thostrakos in the face. "I don't know, really. But what I do know is that gods and demons bleed just like the rest of us so you should leave before I strangle you myself, demon/god/thing."
"Is that… are you threatening me?"
"No. I'm just threatening your life, not you."
"That's not- dude, I'm trying to help you and your pack. Can you stop?"
"How are you going to help us? Plow us down like Thanos? Even though I have no clue who Thanos is,"
The Alpha does not know they just made an MCU referance and we shall keep it that way because explaining MCU to a wolf is just not possible.
"Who is Thanos? And no, I won't plow you down. I can assist you better than that. I can massacre you and help you rebuild from the ground up," Thostrakos replied, half confused but also determind.
Rei was outside evestropping on the conversation. Being massacred then rebuilt by an evil demon/god sounded terrible to him. Then again, it was his Alpha's choice. Maybe he should talk to Sulver about this.
Talking to Sulver about this
You approach Sulvur after evestropping on Alpha and Thostrakos's conversation. "Sulver," You begin.
"I know. That demon dude wants to massacre us."
"How did you-?"
"Never mind how I do anything these days. We have to stop him. Get the pups out and maybe I can murder the god thing before he kills us all."
"Well, he won't massacre us all. Just half of us. Because you can't rebuild without a foundation and that's also what Thanos did in Marvel Cinematic Universe, which you probably have no clue what that is and nor do I but-"
"STOP RAMBLING! I am going to go barge in on their conversation now. Continue evestropping if you wish to die."
Sulvur barges in on a conversation
Sulvur barges in on the Alpha and Thostrakos's conversation. "Alpha, we need to talk. Like, right now. Before Thostrakos massacres us all and we can no longer talk!"
"Sulvur. What. The. Heck. Can you at least knock?" The Alpha barks.
Sulvur stomps angrily, technically knocking while doing so.
"There. I knocked. Now, can we talk before we all die, alone?" Sulvur jerks his head at Thostrakos.
"Sure, senior," Thostrakos nods and ducks out. "I'll be outside dealing with the evestropper."
Rei, realizing he's compromised, walks around camp like he totally wasn't evestropping. He doesn't trust the demon/god/thing one bit and he generally tries to avoid Thostrakos as Thostrakos follows him
around, slowly walking faster and faster until they're both engaged in a pup-like chase scene that I will not detail because that would be painful to read.
"So, Alpha, do you plan on letting an evil demon massacre half the pack for his own fun?" Sulvur asked.
"I mean, yeah. I do," The Alpha responded, voice void of all emotion.
"Alpha! That's suicide! He'll kill you!" Sulvur sounded alarmed, and with good reason.
"I have served this pack well, Sulvur. Perhaps it is my time."
"No. We need you. Maybe we can propose a different solution to him. Maybe… we can treat him like we treat Lady Tala, as that seems to be what he wants."
"Lady Tala is the only god, well, goddess but you get my point."
"Yes, I do. But if we do that, we could save everyone," Sulvur insists.
"You're right. Now we can start with saving Rei. Go do that, please, Sulvur," The Alpha relented.
Sulvur nodded then stepped out to save Rei from getting killed.
So Thostrakos is a god now
After the Alpha explained that Thostrakos now had full godly power over the pack, all was peaceful. For now things were calming down, but no one was sure if that peace would last. Of course, one could only hope.
Afterwards
After a long period of peace, the peace continued. Both Thostrakos and Tala were viewed as gods by the pack. Drought and starvation never bothered the pack again, as it was protected by its devine beings. The Alpha even continued to live, which was surprising but whatever. Many in the pack still do not trust Thostrakos but that was alright, at least they were not being massacred. Hold that thought- every time the moon was full, a pup seemed to just disappear into thin air. No one ever saw them again.
