Emberlyn was fiercely loyal to his alpha, Nola, who appreciated him greatly. She knew she can rely on him to do his best for the pack. Along with Ilse, he is one of Nola's closest friends. The three are near inseparable.

Emberlyn was born shortly after Nola became alpha, and never knew Sienna. He was the runt in a litter of three. His mother was a chaser named Flea, and his father was a raffle stud named Corvus II. As the weakest pup in the litter, Emberlyn received extra attention from his mother. Cnidos, the pack's previous stud and current mentor, trained Emberlyn as a pup.
Emberlyn then trained as a scout under Jelly. His brother and sister both left the pack. As an apprentice scout, he was allowed to accompany the Jelly when she reported her findings to Nola.
Emberlyn became a council member and was gifted a trophy tail necklace for his contribution to the pack. When he was two years old, Emberlyn accepted Nola's request for him to become the pack's next stud. Nola brought him a strange ichor to drink, and assured him that it was safe and would simply change his gender. Nola had drank it herself before she became alpha, since she wanted to raise pups before taking up her new responsibilities. Emberlyn trusted her, and found his dear friend beside him when woke. The change took some getting used to, but Nola's support made it easier. Nola also brought him a variety of tokens she'd purchased in the Dreamlands that gave him a mystical appearance to pass on to his pups.
After Jelly's retirement and a year of being the only scout, Ilse joined him as the second. Ilse was three years older than Emberlyn, but she was never too proud to defer to Emberlyn's experience or ask him for help. As she became comfortable in her position, she and Emberlyn split up in their missions, with Ilse traveling north and Emberlyn south.
