Drift impressed Ioa with his smarmy attitude. He very much wanted to be part of a pack - a family. Ioa offered it to him, thinking nothing of his excessive politeness. Other wolves were not as happy, usually a particular hunting team. They avoided him even when ill! As the healer, this was not practical and he chased after them.
Pups taught not to race near prickle bushes saw Drift's persistence in the form of desperate pursuit. Thus, they were adverse to following such a rule, namely Fluff's offspring. Aduilc's as well did not listen. Aridaz was too busy avoiding Erg to take note, and Erg personally did not mind Drift. Erg thought Drift was a great friend, actually.

As Drift aged and acclimated, they calmed down. Rai in particular was good about working with Drift on sounding more sincere. Through those friendships, Drift got on better with the likes of Mint Wrath and Fluff's family.
