The Witch of the Wildes

The Wildes have seen many changes in leadership over the seasons, kings and queens have come and gone but few have lasted to see their fur turn grey. When the late King Nevermore passed, there were whispers that the Wildes were cursed; that no wolf that claimed the mantle of sovereign would ever live until the end of their natural life. Few dared rise in fear of being marked by the curse and the Wildes were sent into disarray as fear grew that the remnants of the pack would be left to be scattered like dandelion seeds in the wind. 

Until Vespertine Eventide set her mind to claim the Wildes as her own.

“The Wildes have not had a queen lead them since Saga the Rose-kissed”

“And a fine queen she was, but she was too soft and every leader this pack has seen since may have had their own share of glory in their lifetime but all have been too eager to carve their legacy through sired pups. Perhaps, the Wildes need a queen once again to bring forth a new era.”

“Pray tell, what will this new era bring?”

“A reckoning unlike any seen before.”

Sweet, soft, gentle. An elegant creature of light with a natural grace in her footfalls that almost make her appear to be walking on air. A charming smile and a melodic voice of honey and velvet that utters naught but innocence and, perhaps, naivety.

A facade.

In truth, Vespertine is a witch you’d be wise to second guess, as her intentions are rarely what they appear to be. Perhaps, to most it’s unclear what she is truly like beneath the intricate layers of characters she’s crafted to hide her true nature. A social chameleon in the finest form, she artfully adapts herself to those around her, absorbing their essence like a sponge to reflect what others want her to be and want to see in her. She prides herself on never telling a true lie, but she has a careful tongue; able to twist truths and mindfully word what she says in a deceptively clever way. 

Beneath the sweetened ruse Vespertine is a conniving, vindictive witch with a sarcastic tongue that can be sharper than any blade and devastatingly destructive rage. With an impulsive nature she finds it hard to keep in check and a heart for violence she cannot deny, she is ruthless, sometimes even cruel. Ambitious, proud and possessive; whatever she sinks her teeth into will not let go without leaving a mark. Even death isn’t something that scares her and she doesn’t allow fear of death to determine her actions or make her hesitate. Although she can be calculative, ultimately she is a wolf who will act on gut and feeling, always and it hasn’t failed her yet. In short, is she ready to die? Hell no. Will she accept death? Not without a goddamn fight. Is she scared of death? In simplest terms, no.

However, despite her more aggressive tendencies Vespertine understands she is nothing without the support of those that choose to follow her. Therefore, she will encourage you where you need to be encouraged, lift you when you need to be lifted, and knock you when you need to be reminded of humility. She will not aggressively and outwardly express her tactical thoughts, instead, on occasion, she may propose certain ideas in a way that has an air of pretend uncertainty to them; planting a seed of thought and waiting to see if it blossoms, prepared to nurture it further if needed.

She hides her true feelings away like a sacred treasure, locking them away behind thick, heavy doors and giving none the keys. Her likes, dislikes, fears, and thrills remain a mystery, lost in the complicated riddle of her character; can you be sure she likes what she says she does? Fears what she claims to fear? The lines between her true self and what she carves herself to be are so heavily blurred, it’s hard to tell.
