Ghostshadow was a humble little girl who never wanted to draw attention to herself. While other pups were boisterously bouncing around the Nursery, Ghost could be found napping in a corner. Her elders said that she lived up to her name because "Ghost floats by unnoticed". But her intelligence wasn't overlooked. Whenever she spoke, she said something smart, and her pupsitter Stoneshade thought that maybe she could be a good stalker on a hunting team. Her mother Rainfrost wondered if maybe Ghost's lower energy wasn't better suited for something else.
At the Academy, Ghost studied strength and speed to build up her weaker stats. She was a good student, though her teachers wished she would come at her lessons with more enthusiasm and participate more. It seemed like her favorite thing to do was play as a pupsitter during rounds of Pretend Pack between classes. She would pick a toy and dote on it off to one side while the other pups ran around causing a ruckus. That made Stone think that maybe Rain had been right and Ghost was destined for pupsitting.
During her apprenticeship, Ghost stayed at the Academy and helped care for the pups who came through after her. There was no doubt that this was the right place for her. She had a nurturing instinct that instantly comforted nervous pups away from home for the first time. The pupsitters were impressed by her innate ability to connect to the little ones and praised her. She learned to identify the most vulnerable pup and make sure they weren't bullied by the others.
On her first birthday, Ghost stayed in the background, true to her nature. But anyone who paid attention would have noticed her drinking an ill-advised amount of fermented barley.
Now as an adult, Ghost still doesn't like getting attention. But she loves to give it. She knows how to recognize timid and frightened little ones and act immediately to make them feel safe. It's amazing how quickly they come out of their shells under her care. The other pupsitters wonder how she does it, but Ghost keeps her secrets to herself. Even when she has some fermented barley after the pups' bedtime, there's no cracking her code.
