Stoneshade was an observant little girl who took in everything going on around her and turned it into a million dreams. One day she wanted to be a scout, exploring unknown lands. The next day she wanted to be a hunter, chasing prey though the Taiga forest. And another day she wanted to be an herbalist, healing sickness with what she thought must be magical powers. Every day was a different dream and goal for her. She even thought that she might want to turn into a dog and live with humans in their town far away, but her mother told her absolutely not!
At the Academy, Stone's wisdom and strength lessons opened up even more possibilities. She could be Alpha, leading the pack to greatness. She could be a traveler, experiencing the lives of different packs. She could be a mother, loving and caring for her puppies. She could even be a mentor, molding young minds for bright futures. Stone had so many dreams, she couldn't pick just one to pursue, but in her mind, she just had one little problem. She was still a pup and had a long way to go before she became a working adult. When the pupsitters finally recommended her for a pupsitter role, Stone's mother Buttershine was astonished. Out of all Stone's dreams, pupsitting had been the smallest. But Mentor Horseheart explained that all Stone's dreaming would help her encourage dreaming in the pups under her care.
During her apprenticeship, Stone stayed at the Academy to help care for the pups who came through after her. She loved telling the puppies about all the things they could do when they grew up. The possibilities were endless, she told them. She came to really love encouraging them and watching them succeed in their lessons. Education was one of the keys to success in life, she realized, and tried to help the pups get the most out of their lessons every day. Her cousin Moondream was glad for the support to maintain order, but Stone was pushing the pups academically for a different reason. The more they learned, the more they could dream.
On her first birthday, Stone looked back at all the dreams she had as a pup and realized that she was in exactly the right role. Horseheart's explanation made sense to her and her joy was profound. She drank more fermented barley than anyone else that night and the next morning, she came to the conclusion that a drunk was the one thing she didn't want to be.
Now as an adult, Stone still has a million dreams. But now she's dreaming for the puppies under her care instead of herself. She tells her charges that they can be anything they want to be in life, as long as they work hard to get there. She loves helping them through their lessons and watching them succeed. If a pup needs extra help or wants a good word put in for them with a neighboring pack, Stone is there without fail. She wants every puppy to know that they have someone on their side rooting for them the whole way.
