Coyotepelt was an optimistic little girl who was always happy and playful. It seemed to be playtime all the time for Coyote, and her mom and pupsitter had a terrible time trying to get her to go to sleep every night. If there was giggling or mischief going on in the Nursery after bedtime, it was always Coyote. Her elders said that she lived up to her name because "Coyote is a troublemaker". But she never meant to cause any stress, she just believed that life was supposed to be fun. Any time she was scolded and told to be quiet or go to sleep, it was only a temporary break in the party of life.
At the Academy, Coyote brought the party to school to study wisdom and strength. She was a decent student and her teachers praised her enthusiasm. But she had a hard time focusing on anything for a long time, even more than the other pups, and that made class difficult for her. Horseheart had to make sure to break up lectures into shorter segments than usual so Coyote would stay engaged. Her ability to focus improved slowly through her school career and by the end, she was almost normal. But she kept her playful nature and her laughter was ever-present. The pupsitters recommended her for a pupsitter role and her mother Peachflower thought that was the absolute best thing for her.
During her apprenticeship, Coyote stayed at the Academy to help take care of the pups who came through after her. The pups adored her playful party attitude and she was their favorite pupsitter. She was a wonderful foil for her order-loving sister Moondream and would always argue in favor of playtime. But sometimes she went a little too far. Pups entrusted to Coyote overnight went yawning through their lessons the next day because she let them stay up late. Horseheart's scolding let her know that she needed to be more mindful of consequences when she made decisions for puppies. Coyote realized that being a pupsitter wasn't all fun and games, and life wasn't just a party. She would have to grow up some if she wanted to be good at this and support the pack.
On her first birthday, Coyote was more anxious than joyful. It was true that today was a party and she loved parties. But today also marked the end of her puppyhood, and in a way, the end of her carefree party time. She would be expected to be a responsible adult from now on and that was hard for her to accept. But she told herself that she would find ways to keep the party going, even with responsibilities.
Now as an adult, Coyote's party of life still goes on, albeit at a slower pace than before. She loves to play with the puppies, eat with them, nap with them, do everything with them. In the face of Moon's strictness, Coyote is a die-hard advocate for playtime. But she also knows how to say no and get the puppies to their beds and lessons on time. Understanding consequences has helped Coyote grow into some maturity, but she never quite lets the party end and will often sneak a wink at a distracted puppy during class just to let them know that she cares.
