so i've come across a few other people who enjoy rdr2 but i really wanna know who else enjoys rockstar's prequel to red dead redemption. i picked up the game about 3-4 months ago after wanting it for so, so long, and it took me 3 months to finish the main story! then it took me a while to get the "best in the west" trophy and 100% the game (not platinum, but get every collectible, stranger mission, etc)! i'm currently on my second playthrough (low honor) and i can't get enough of this game jfc. it's a part of me now.

so, anyone who enjoys this game (or the first one) comment here! i'd love to hear your experiences with the game, but hopefully we can also keep the topic relatively spoiler free! (i know rdr2's 2nd year anniversary was just 3 days ago but i know some ppl still haven't had a chance to fully complete the game)

here's some questions to get some conversations rolling!

  • favorite main character(s)? (for me, i adore arthur and charles so much! any charthur fans here? but i also love lenny, hosea, john, tilly, and javier!)
  • favorite locations? (ambarino all the way for me. the mountains, forests, and flower fields are gorgeous. the grizzlies are also breathtaking as well)
  • favorite horses? (i personally love the piebald tobiano halfbred! the brindle thoroughbred and raven black shire get runner-up)
  • favorite missions? (aftermath of genesis and pouring forth oil for me! academia for amateurs is a stranger mission but albert mason is just... he's such a good man)

Ha I love RDR2. I'm planning on buying the first game for Christmas. I started playing it when it came out on Game Pass a few months ago. My homie played it for a while when it first came out so he helped me do a lot of online stuff and level up. A lot of fun experiences with that.

So here's my online character. Funny story but I rode this mule all the way from Emerald Ranch to Armadillo just so I could take a picture for RP purposes lol.

@polaris

so many people play rdo... i wish i could get into it! without friends though rdo is a bit of a tough experience. seems like playing with a posse or a couple of good friends makes it 100x more enjoyable though.

i love her omg! the outfit is great o: what's her name? and a ride from emerald ranch to armadillo is like 15 minutes omg but that's entirely valid

Oh yeah! Honestly I never played rdo unless my homies were getting on. Unlike GTA V there's really nothing to do on your own. Also playing with friends is better because the player base is so toxic you always get killed by randos. I remember one time I was killed by a rival posse, so my homie killed them. I respawned and we went back to back defensively it was like a movie.

Her name is Cabra ^^ Since I took this picture her hat was upgraded to a sombrero and she now has Poncho Villa style bullet belts lol.

RDR2 is easily my favorite game, and I doubt that'll ever change, honestly. When I say I cried for the entirety of the ending... I've not played the original game yet, but I desperately want to. I'll try to keep this as vague and spoiler-free as I can!

Favorite Main Characters

Arthur, John, Sadie, and Charles, in that order. charthur yes please? discuss in more detail?

Favorite Locations

Oof, this is rough. I have several specific places on the map that just make me feel extremely peaceful, but as for regions, I adore Big Valley, Tall Trees - most of the western part of the map, honestly, although I'm not a big fan of the desert; it's gorgeous, but it feels so alone. Basically anywhere with cliffs and forests and flowers. I even enjoy Roanoke Ridge for the landscaping, but the whispers...? Oof. Even the bayou is beautiful, albeit a little terrifying at night.

Favorite Horses

Okay, so this is definitely an odd answer - the buttermilk buckskin Kentucky Saddler has stolen my heart away. Since it was introduced with the PC release (aka since I cheated it into my PS4 copy) I have started every single playthrough by obtaining one of those handsome lads by any means necessary. Always a stallion, always named Beowulf. My horse loadout tends to vary with each playthrough, but Beowulf is a constant. My main game stable usually consists of Beowulf, the tobiano TWH from the beginning of the game, and the reverse dapple roan Nokota; the fourth stall is left open for whatever horse I get attached to next. Epilogue - Beowulf 2.0, the tiger striped mustang, the silver dapple pinto MFT, and Buell.  As for online, the splashed piebald Gypsy Cob, the dappled buckskin Norfolk, and the silver dapple pinto MFT again.

Favorite Missions

Really? You're going to make me try to choose? Impossible. Blood Feuds, Ancient and Modern is absolutely gorgeous in terms of cinematography. A Quiet Time is quite obviously iconic. Arcadia for Amateurs - wonderful. Honestly? The entire damn game.

Ahh I have an absolute obsession with rdr2!

I pre-ordered the game and finished it in 5 days, had a second playthrough but to try and find the side missions I missed before but never got around to actually completing the main story twice

I played the first one when I was a lot younger, and it was actually the first video game I had ever played

I play RDO mainly, rank 105 or higher I don't remember (haven't played since Wolvden came out in Sept)

I can confirm RDO is a billion times better with friends

This is ironic, since wolves are one of the most annoying enemies in the game (and Arthur explicitly dislikes them) lol. Meanwhile grizzly bears and cougars/panthers remain just plain terrifying.

I have the game, too! I pre-purchased it way back in 2018 and have loved it ever since. It has fairly solid writing, fantastic characters including one of the very best video game protagonists of all time in Arthur Morgan (and that's saying something, since he succeeded John friggin' Marston), and a beautiful and engaging open world to run (mostly) free in. I've completed the story mode twice.

I enjoy the northern, mountainous areas, too, as well as Lemoyne swamps since I live in a very swamp-y state. The raven-black Shire is awful pretty, even if rather slow. Currently my absolute favorite horse is the liver chestnut Morgan that was added in that big update a couple months ago, although I also like the black American Standardbred, grullo dun Mustang, splashed white American Paint, leopard Appaloosa, silver dapple pinto Missouri Fox Trotter and the chocolate roan, seal brown, and cremello gold variations of the Dutch Warmblood.

Also, A Quiet Time is easily the best mission even if just for being the funniest. The scene where Arthur talks to the nun at the train station is also pretty great, because I love it when any fictional media allows their big, tough, rugged male characters to be openly emotional and vulnerable like that.

@polaris#12054 make sure to tell cabra she's a queen and a badass. lady gunslingers (looking at you sadie and others) are some of the best characters tbh.

@gravity#10682 omg. bro. omg. this POST. YES CHARTHUR? you have taste my friend. let us please discuss the best (totally extremely canon even if rockstar never stated it. they're coded and that's good enough for me. as an mlm myself i can confirm charthur is real and canon and that is final.) mlm relationship in the history of video games.

somehow i forgot about big valley? and how could i forget it? that area is also amazing. the lupine fields are so beautiful. when pronghorn, elk, and deer are running through there you really feel the game's life in those moments. it's those little parts of exploration that make the game so worth it and so different. tall trees is also good but the skinner brothers just. makes traveling there so difficult. roanoke ridge and bayou nwa tie for most terrifying places to be at night.

i'm also sorry i had to make you choose omg i know it's hard almost every mission in this game is amazing.

@game#3121 five days omg. i know the game can be played really quickly but wow! goes to show how much side content is in this game that makes lots players just totally forget about the main story and go off somewhere looking for dinosaur bones for 2 months. while some others just focus on the story and get it done really fast!

@elodianna#2685 i never realized.. yeah it is kind of ironic that wolves are the bane of both john and arthur's existance in the red dead franchise... but i do agree that when you're riding around cumberland at night and you hear that cougar snarl come out of nowhere and suddenly your horse throws you off and you have nothing to defend yourself with... true terror right there. i fear no man but that thing... it scares me. i really wish i could've gotten the game back towards its actual release, but somehow getting it earlier this year also made it more enjoyable. and it's surprising to see that the fandom for it is still quite alive too!

the shire is slow, but omg is he an amazing low honor horse for arthur. i headcanon the tobiano hungarian halfbred as my high honor horse, but my low honor arthur's got the black shire. and his name's titan, of course. i love all mustangs and fox trotters too! i just wish they weren't so tiny.. arthur looks so ridiculous on small horses lmaoo

your guys' responses really made me realize that i FORGOT the GLORY that is A Quiet Time. lenny and arthur's drunk adventures will never cease to be an amazing moment in gaming history. also, treading into spoiler territory here, but that scene with the nun is also amazing. the rawness in arthur in that moment... yeah. male characters deserve to show emotions because we do!! especially arthur, who's the workhorse and the brute of the gang. seeing him emote is really humanizing for him and was a nice thing for rockstar to do. emotional male characters are what we need!!
