Breeding Male Decision

Breeding Male Decision

UPDATE 10/1: Total shuffled the boy and got results I really love! He is my breeding male now and is available for stud ;)

Hello! This is Guard, my lead wolf. I really like his colors, but I don't know if he'll be a good breeder. I got excited about the way the colors blended in the creation stage and didn't really appreciate the bolder markings available until I created his mate and saw other players' boys lol. Even though I like him overall, I'm hesitating to make him my breeding male. I feel like I should set one pretty soon since my females are going into heat next week, but it doesn't seem like a decision I should make on a whim since it's not a quick change if I regret it.

Guard also only has 3 markings and I don't have a good enough grasp on the breeding mechanics to know how undesirable that is (if it all). The two pups he had with my tutorial breeding didn't come out so great (0 markings and 1 marking respectively, colors on both only so-so). I don't currently have plans to add markings to him since I'd have to buy GS to do so, though I admit it is very tempting lol. Very tempting indeed.

What do you think? Should I just set this guy as my breeding male? Or should I keep Exploring and see if I get something with bolder markings? Or should I be using other players' studs for my nicer females anyway?

He's a cutie!! Personally, I'm holding off on selecting a breeding male, there are plenty of studs out there to breed to! It's all personal preference though, so do what makes you happy!!

Yeah, that's very true. I'll probably wait a few days more and see what turns up. Anything can happen in a week until my females go into heat, and i have a feeling I'll be using studs pretty frequently whether Guard ends up as my breeding male or not.

He sure is a cutie!! I have my wolf Xerxes set as my breeding male, but am going to take a look at all of the studs out there too as love my males coloring, but he didn't give me the best coloring pups. I'd love to take a shot at breeding to yours if you ever post him as a stud. My girl is a darkish brown and dark tan/brown with some grey and tan.

Thank you! I did end up throwing a total shuffle at him after all, I just couldn't resist after a few days haha. I feel very lucky. He stayed the colors I liked and he got a more interesting face. I did put him up for stud in case anyone was interested. I'm pretty new and still learning how it works though.

You must be talking about Arca? I went and took a peek at her haha. Her patterns are really cool, they remind me of patchwork a bit. I like contrast between the warm brown and the cool grey :)

Yes, Arca is my baby. She's absolutely wonderful, all though her and my male Xerxes as i said in the reply above didn't give me the best coloring pups as I am looking for more pattern crazy and wild colors ones. Once Acra is off of her breeding cooldown and I have enough for the stud fee I am going to breed to Guard. As I would like to see the results I get, all of your wolves I love!

I hope all breeding and future exploring goes well for you, keep breeding wonderful puppies! Also, I love your profile picture! It's very cute! I keep finding wolves to befriend and am not fans of the coloring(have gotten all browns mainly) so I have chased them off. Do you play Lioden? You can get very rare and beautiful coats on there as well, I've got two newborns on there that I can't wait to see when they grow up.

Studding seems to be the way to go I think. I was disappointed by my first breeding between my two starter wolves as well so I think it's really cool to see what everyone else's wolves might make with ours. Arca and Guard should make something interesting for sure :D

Thank you!! I'm not on Lioden but it seems they carried over a lot of similar game play when they made Wolvden. I kinda joined here on a whim and it's been a lot of fun so far! I can't wait until I have enough space and funds to breed a lot interesting patterns! I've heard similarly good things about Lioden.

@Coelacanis

I agree, studding does seem the way to go, I'm waiting to do one more breeding between my main two, and seeing the results of that. But I am going to definitely breed with your boy before that! Guard is such a handsome boy and I can't wait to breed them.

And you should definitely check out Lioden if it interests you! But I prefer Wolvden in my opinion.
