Just copy pasted from my den right now

Weary paws have brought you here

Tired and hungry, your sore paws have brought you to a heavily scented territory border. You decide to test your luck. The border itself smells strongly, but the dense forest beyond it only had faint traces of life. Stale scents lingered along a well beaten path.
Very shortly after crossing the border you're greeted, well… ambushed, by a pair of grim looking wolves
Run
>Stay<
One of the wolves, a dark furred male with inquisitive eyes, simply stared. The other, another dark furred wolf, pulled her lips back in a snarl.
"Leave.. there's nothing for you here."
Said the first wolf. As you opened your mouth to respond, yet another wolf appeared from the undergrowth. A tall, lithe figure. Shining white fur with brown speckles down his back. The others took a few steps back as he approached. He eyed you up and down, nose twitching slightly as he took in your scent before speaking.
"You've been wandering a while. Come."
And with that he turned back the way you came. The two wolves from before looked confused, but quickly masked their surprise and followed suit. Curiosity and hunger pangs won you over and you followed.

The pack

They reside deep within a densely packed forest. In the center, a gigantic tree. They make up their dens in the massive roots that surface and resurface around the base. They refer to the great tree as the heart of the forest. It's towering mass sheltering them and rising above the other treetops. The impenetrable branches of the tall trees block out majority of the natural light, and the wolves living here have developed stronger senses because of that. Eyes trained to see well in the dark underbrush and ears tuned to each little sound. Noses able to sniff out the small prey through the strong smell of leaves and sap. They thrive in their dark paradise.
While they shun most outsiders, and rarely make contact with other wolves. There are a few occasional exceptions. Abu is still soft at heart and wants to help whenever he can. Though rarely, he will bring in outsiders lingering at the border for a nice meal. They never usually stay longer than a few nights.
After the incident, dubbed 'the massacre' visitors are far and few in between. And never from any of the nearby packs. The story traveled far and many wolves know it and actively avoid going anywhere near the pack's territory.

The founder

"You must be hungry. Come, we have food to spare.."
The founder of this pack. Though young, he's wise, and perceptive. Good at reading others. The goal for this pack was to give wanderers like himself a home. A reliable support they can depend on and grow old with. Originally a small band of friends, now a rather large family. Bound by their shared struggles and triumphs. He often comes off as cold and aloof, but he just doesn't talk much, and enjoys alone time.

In the beginning.
Abu, is the lead of this pack. A tightly-knit group, not fond of newbies and outsiders. Living life as a traveling loner for a long time, he picked up wolves like him, outcasts and loners, and they forged a clan of their own. Over the years as  they built the foundations of this pack, they also forged  quite the reputation for being rather violent and merciless to those that opposed them. . . their cruel and vicious behavior led to the name the surrounding packs thrust upon them. The Harrows.

They were not always like this, and after the incident that gave them their name they returned to being a mostly peaceful pack. Though they were certainly more quick to anger than before.

So how exactly did they build that reputation, you may ask?
It started when the pack was first formed, most of them younger wolves, naive, fiery, and ready to take on the world! A scout made her way out of the newly established borders searching for good hunting and gathering areas. At first, everything was fine. She did what she was meant to. But then she ran into another wolf, right outside the borders.
When she had first met him, she was wary, she knew the risks of talking to outsiders, the dangers that came with strange new wolves. But as time went on, and she continued to run into this other wolf, those fears dissipated. She had begun talking to him, and eventually even viewed him as a friend. Her expeditions began to take longer every day, less and less time spent actually exploring. Eventually, she began to fall in love with the nameless wolf. That love clouding her judgment made it easier for her to turn a blind eye to the wrongful acts of the stranger.
She knew she would be in trouble if the rest of her pack found out about this, seeing as not only was this wolf from another pack, but one who had greatly harmed others. The wolf she had been meeting was a tormenter, ugly scars adorned his body and an ugly heart to match. He claimed that his current pack had changed him, she had doubts that her own pack would see it that way . . . knowing this, she planned to run away with the wolf. Start a new pack of her own. Raise pups with this forbidden wolf.
But when the young scout had told her star crossed lover about her plan, he refused. The scarred wolf already had a mate, and was raising pups with her. The pain of the realization that the feelings she had were not shared, sent her into a frenzy. The Scout had always been a tough wolf, the biggest in her litter, and though she was young, she was strong. So when she went feral, almost killing everyone in the 'betrayers'  pack, it was horrific. No one knew one wolf could be so destructive. The neighboring packs, had found out what happened and the Scout was hunted down and  Killed for what she had done.
Though the scout and her love lust was the only one responsible, the packs blamed and shunned the Harrows. Called them monsters and savages. They attempted to chase them from their land, and to kill them off when that failed. So the pack went on a rampage of their own. Most of them, already shunned, and some brutalized, by former packs. They would not have it. They would not be chased from the home they'd built. They would show the  others they weren't to be trifled with. Attacking without discrimination, young, old, sick, healthy. Chasing out any wolves they found. They'd become a scourge. Pushed too far and now they were tearing down anyone in their destructive path. Earning them their name.
Now they are the lords of a land polluted with a malicious and hostile air, free of any wolves save for their selves. They keep close and refrain from any contact with outsiders for everyone's sake.

Now.
Many years after the incident,  the land around them remains barren as far as other wolves go. The packs territory borders end at the edge of the massive forest they den in, but nearby wolves steer clear of the surrounding territories all together.  That provides the pack with ample hunting grounds. They rarely venture outside the forest except to hunt big game. They don't have to leave the forest much at all though. Deer and elk are abundant in the forest, and plenty large enough to feed them. When the occasional wolf, unaware of the haunting rumors surrounding the pack shows up at their border, often travelers seeking shelter. They are usually turned away, though a few get to stay for a short while.

The forest provides.
Their saying. Most wolves don't even leave the heart of the forest. The packs denning site. The site surrounds a great tree, with massive limbs that climb towards the heavens. And deep within that tree, under the great roots the pack rests in, is a stone. A strange, opalescent stone, with a resemblance to the moon in the sky. They deemed it the heartstone. The wolves believe it is what led them to this home, and that it encourages the mighty trees around them to grow. When small chunks of the beautiful stone began to break off, the alpha, Abu, gathered  them up, and carried  them outside the forest border. To this day he doesn't quite know what compelled him to do so. He traveled through the day and into the next towards a looming mountain that overlooked the packs forest. He trekked up the mountain  until he'd climbed to the very peak. Bearing little more than a modest spring and a few small trees, the peak of the mountain was chilled by an ever present breeze. He placed the small shards of stone on the grass and watched as they lit up like the moon above, sending a strange, pleasant feeling thrumming through his body. Each shard pulsed with the light of the moon and a sense of calm washed over him. These shards continued to glow slightly even after he had returned to the forest. And this became tradition. Every time the full moon appeared in the sky, Abu was at the peak of that mountain, bearing more shards. He brought these shards back and placed them in the entrances of dens, tucked between the roots that sheltered them. The denning site resembled the night sky itself, shards of the heartstone twinkling like stars in the dark clearing.

He bestowed upon her a necklace. like his own, it bore the shards of the great stone at the heart of the forest, and showed the others in the pack what she was destined for.
