The wolves of Clan Ceilte inhabit the expanse of the triple-peaked Triskele Mountain range plateau, as well as the surrounding woods and steppes.
Their culture and societal norms take from old Celtic and Norse traditions, rituals, and practices with hints of fantastical headcanons mixed in where appropriate.

For example, the clan is structured similarly to those of the Viking Age, their herbalist is referred to and operates as a "druid," and all role names are in Gaelic or "Old Norse."

This is due to the canonical founding of the clan: the remnants of a kingdom far across the sea brought to this land by its exiled prince. Building the society from scratch, the prince saw fit to make a few changes to the rules and roles he grew up with.

Essentially, this entire story is the result of two wolves escaping certain death and building a new home.

NOTE: As mentioned above, there are elements of fantasy in this setting. Mountains next to the sea? Cranberry bogs among rocky peaks and valleys? You're damn right there are.

While following this clan's narrative, there are a few written and unwritten gameplay rules that will be followed:

𝟙. No pairbonds before each wolf is at least 2 years old.

𝟚. No pups before the parents are at least 2.5 years old.

𝟛. During winter, the clan is only allowed to hunt in their home biome—one party at a time.

𝟜. Only half of litters born in winter can be protected by a pupsitter.

𝟝. All wolves between 6 - 6.5 years old are to be retired into the mentor role.

The wolves of Clan Ceilte inhabit the expanse of the triple-peaked Triskele Mountain range plateau, as well as the surrounding woods and steppes.

❝ 𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤𝐞𝐥𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐰𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐦. The range is known for its three highest peaks—each arranged in an arc that hugs the shoreline. On the west side, facing the shore, the mountains become cliffs that drop directly into the sea or occasionally slope down toward a small sandbar. To the east, a dense coniferous forest has crept up the mountainsides like a thick, green blanket. The range has various levels of elevation with lakes, streams, and short waterfalls cutting through the expanse of trees and jagged rocks. One wouldn't know just by looking, but there are some parts that are lush and hilly. Much of the area consists of soft steppes that occasionally carry meadows of wildflowers like arnica, alpine paintbrushes, and valerian—often marked with tall stalks of heather and arctic lupine.❞

The territory expanse boasts the following notable features:

  • Three Summits—The Triskele Mountains are most well-known for the three tallest peaks, forming an arc that follows the seaside cliffs of the peninsula. The peaks, from southern-most to northern-most, are named: Beatha, Bás, and Athbhreith.

  • Cranberry Bogs—Ceilte's wolves supplement their typical diet with wild cranberries located in two bogs at the base of the mountains. This is where their Clan color, a deep maroon red, comes from. Clan artisans also use the berry juice to make dyes for fabrics and furs.

  • Flowers & Forests—Triskele's steppes are host to a myriad of plant species from vast, colorful wildflower meadows to green coniferous woods along the mountainsides and fiery deciduous trees at the base.

  • Naturally-Occurring Crops—Among the seasonal foliage, one might stumble upon a stretch of naturally-cultivated apple trees. There have even been reports of ground-dwelling squash vines such as pumpkins and golden fields that stretch through the region's south border.

  • Cliffs of Namara—The seaside cliffs that line the western coast and fall directly into the ocean. At a few points, there are sand bars that allow for exploration into the water or landings from the Síraide Sea.

tl;dr—one could imagine the territory as a mix of mountain, forest, and taiga biomes. Ever seen a picture of mountains in Maine, USA? Yeah, like that.

The clan has marked several important locations throughout the region for aesthetic or utilitarian purposes. Each landmark is named accordingly and listed below in order from geographical location north to south:

  • Directional Standing Stones—Just outside the town's perimeter, at each of the four cardinal directions, clan members and visiting wolves can find a standing stone[🖼️] marked with a specific pattern. Each pattern bears the ogham letter corresponding to the direction, which can sometimes be seen carved into trunks of old trees or smaller rocks the further one travels. This was done to help new hunters orient themselves and help visitors find their way out.

  • Landmark 2

  • Landmark 3

  • Landmark 4

The clan's main settlement—sometimes referred to as their "village"[🖼️] or "camp"—is the central hub of lupine life within the Triskele region.

❝ 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐰𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐧 𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐬 "𝐓𝐞𝐧𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐡." Much like ancient Celtic tribes of the Iron Age, the village is primarily made up of a collection of 𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞-like dens[🖼️]—circular structures with walls primarily comprised of stone and woven sticks with thatched, sloping rooves often covered in soil and moss for insular purposes. It is built west of center, nestled against the higher elevation of Mt. Bás, on a flat shelf with layers of ramparts surrounding its vulnerable eastern flank 𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭[🖼️]. The paths among the various dens, important structures like the butcher and druid's cottage, and heading in the direction of the clan's hunting grounds have been worn into the dirt from use. The village is heavily decorated with the clan's sigil color—a deep maroon—displayed on tapestries, banners, flags, and local standing stones marking the cardinal directions. Additionally, a short cobblestone fence lines the edges of the steppe to mark the village's perimeter.❞

Tenlach has a few distinct areas and clusters of dens according to family and hierarchy:

  • Lantiagh—Otherwise known as a "longhouse,"[🖼️] this structure is the center of clan operations. Council meetings are held here, as are important announcements, celebrations, and feasts. It is much larger and longer than normal dens with several perpetually open points of entry to accommodate all clan members. Here, visitors will most likely find the result of the clan's conquests and greatest victories including trophies, pelts, artifacts, and tomes. It is also the primary residence of the clan's Seanchaidhe.

  • Ceartorg—Often simply referred to as the "torg," this is the center of the village. Much like a town square, this is the most open part right in the heart of the settlement. It's not uncommon to see mothers bringing their litters here to play together or clanmates swapping stories of the day. All wolves need to pass through here to leave Tenlach or get to their personal den. It is directly below the Lantaigh.

  • Seomranga Dens—A densite for notable wolves such as Muinkendir and Thegns. These dens tend to be a more moderate size and decorated warmly. Occasionally, these homes and the title associated with them will stay within the family of the original owner.

  • Konungrioga Den—A very large single den where the current Lead and their family live. It is the closest residence to the center of Tenlach as well as the most decorated. It has a few extra rooms for private sleeping quarters and other miscellaneous uses determined by the owner(s).

  • Fiadrengr Dens—A densite for wolves whose jobs involve hunting, fighting, or general combat. This is where Fyrd in active hunting parties make their homes in order to improve comradery and synergy even when not in the field.

  • Seidraoi Den—This is a noticeably large single den with an attached herb garden patch and an open "front lawn" area complete with a central firepit. It is a few meters apart from the rest of the village and often decorated with sigils of wards, carvings, effigies, bones, and pelts according to the tastes and style of the clan's current Druid. This is their main residence and often can become the residence of those who are sick, injured, or just-whelped. Some Garvordr wolves will also make their dens nearby to more efficiently offer their assistance.

  • Vargraettr Dens—A densite for Fyrd wolves whose jobs do not involve the use of fang and claw. These are wolves who are part of inactive/secondary hunting parties or have other roles potentially helping higher ranking members.
