Please don't post here, I'd like to keep it clean and clear for easy reference for myself. If you feel so inclined to tell me what you felt or just in case there are typos I missed, feel free to post on this thread!


I was inspired to try my own wolvlocke/hard mode/impossible mode to make the game more interesting for me, or at least a little spicy, and keep the record of the project here along with all the lore attached! It's kind of a very soft/lenient hard mode because I get attached easy but I do want the feel of a challenge where necessary!

My main inspiration was Nin's, AngryTiger's and Chantaey's projects (links below!) of similar experiments about adding more rules to the gameplay for fun. I mixed a bunch of their rules, making some easier because I am a baby and wanted to make it a bit fun to start, given I am starting in winter like an idiot.

Feel free to use this topic as your own inspiration, change the rules the way you like, etc!

Overview
This challenge project will affect only one cave of my page. Meaning only wolves in that specific cave will be part of this challenge. This seperate cave will not affect my other caves, wolves or lore in anyway.
I may adjust the following rules if feel needed.

Thus ensuring they get their own vibrant lore and lives without effecting the ones I have already made which adds variety in my day to day!

GENERAL
How to start
I.) I start with absolutely nothing.

I.) Only six wolves are allowed to form a pack for the start of the challenge.

II.) These starters should contain 1 scout and 5 hunter role wolves.

III.) A maximum of two wolves may be designated as alphas.
IIIb.) These two must be pair bonded.
IIIc.) The alphas will never leave the pack due to boredom or discontent
IIId.) Their moods can be maintained at 40% using non-Wolvlocke items.
IIIe.) If one alpha dies, another unrelated wolf may be pair bonded to become the second alpha after the 30-day cooldown.
IIIf.) If both alphas die the adult wolf with the highest stats will become the new alpha.
IIIg.) The new alpha may take an unrelated pack member as it's mate or wait for another wolf to join the pack; see the Populating the Pack section.
IIIh.) If there are no adult wolves to take over as alpha the game ends.

IV.) All six starting wolves to the pack must be the very first NBWs you come across, and success to befriend. (I did not do this, see below for Day 1.)

V.) Using the auto-friend option is not allowed. You either success or fail with traditional befriending moves.

VI.) When needing to replace members of the pack, same method, by befriending the first found NBWs, is used to get replace wolves.

VII.) I can sell items and living wolves.

VIII.) Heats, & pup delivery must follow their natural, game-determined course.


Pack size and limit
I.) New wolves can be brought to the pack only to fill in previous wolves' roles.

II.) After getting new member(s), keep in mind that all the role limits still stands (only one scout, five hunters, and possible 3 mentors allowed), so they most likely end up just being more mouths to feed.
> IIb.) The only roles that can increase are hunter and mentor ones
>IIc.) You can only have a second hunt team when you can fill all roles, you cannot start one with less then the full team.
> IId.) You can only have one mentor per position (Stalker, Chaser, Finisher.)

III.) When there are six adult wolves and any pup bred in the pack is reaching adulthood, you are allowed to choose to either replace wolves with a NBW or with the offspring.

IV.) Once either is chosen, you cannot change the wolves' roles until it is chased or dies.

V.) You will have an opportunity for an unrelated wolf to join the pack once every Six in-game months (every 12 rollovers), with the first opportunity on rollover, known as a recruitment day.
Vb.) This wolf must be an NBW found by your lead in explore.

VI.) You may save NBWs found prior to your recruitment day to incorporate into your pack on recruitment day, however this wolf cannot be leveled until it has officially joined the pack and you must try to befriend a wolf in explore to determine success in joining.

VII.) If you fail to recruit an NBW or you cannot find one on this day you must wait for the next recruitment day to try again.

VIII.) You may not use the auto-friend option to recruit a wolf.

IX.) At any point in the game, if the pack population drops to one, you may attempt to recruit an NBW once per day until successful without affecting the progress of official Recruitment Days.


Seasonal Events
I.) Winter: If your recruitment day falls in Winter and your NBW is female, flip a coin to determine if she is pregnant! If successful you may use the Elk Heart grove item (3 GC) to trigger her heat and impregnate her using an NBW stud.

II.) Summer: If your recruitment day falls in Summer, flip a coin to determine if you find a lost pup! This option requires that you have pairbonded alphas. If successful you may adopt a pup from the enclave.
If you do not want a pup from enclave you may attempt to find an NBW in explore instead.
> IIb.) If you only have one alpha, or have a second 'stand-in' alpha which cannot be pairbonded (due to cooldown or not residing in pack for 7 days yet) you cannot adopt a pup.
> IIc.) You may attempt to find an NBW in explore instead.

III.) Spring:
IV.) Fall:

V.) If a female is nested the recruitment day must be skipped.

VI.) If the pack has pups which are 2 months old or younger (still nursing) the recruitment day must be skipped.

VII.) Pups cannot have pup sitters.

VIII.) Pups can be trained but only by members of the Wolvlocke pack.

IX.) Adolescents can only apprentice to members of the Wolvlocke pack.

X.) Pups can only be adopted during a summer recruitment day. See above.

XI.) Pack members that leave due to low hunger or mood cannot return.



Energy and HP
I.) Energy and HP can only be recovered naturally with time, at rollover or from leveling up.

II.) If a wolf's HP reaches 0 for any reason it dies and must be chased.
IIb.) The Open Wound status, which places a wolf's HP at 0 upon contraction, will not outright kill them.
IIc.) You may use one healing salve to return them to 20 HP (Rich Healing Salves are not allowed) but they are not allowed to hunt for the rest of the day.

III.) If a wolf contracts an illness it cannot be quarantined from the pack. A sick wolf may be chased from the pack to avoid spread but this is not required.

IV.) Each day after contraction wolves will have a chance to recover from non-lethal illnesses (50% in spring, 33% in summer & autumn, 25% in winter).

V.) Success should be determined using a random number generator, dice, guessing game ("I'm thinking of a number between 1 and 4…"), etc.

VI.)  If unsuccessful, you may not try again until the next day

VII.)  If successful, a cure can be procured by your non-Wolvlocke Herbalist or another player.
VIIb.) This rule applies individually to each wolf that is sick.

VIII.) Cure-for-Alls, which give multiple days of immunity, are not allowed.

IX.) Lethal illnesses (Distemper, Heatstroke, Infection, Poison, and Pox (for puppies only)) are a death sentence; they cannot be cured by chance.

X.)  Wolves with Heatstroke or Poison must be removed from the pack on the day of contraction if they cannot be healed.

XI.)  Wolves with Distemper, Infection, and Pox can be allowed to meet their end naturally, chased to prevent spread, or put out of their misery.

XII.) If any wolf gets sick, I have until next rollover to heal them. If I do not successfully do so, the wolf dies.




Outside assests and boosts
I.) No outside assets or resources are allowed.
> Ib.) Exception: Items/Resources can be bought if the pack has the funds for them.

II.) Things that change a wolves visuals (Marking Applicators, Base Changers, etc) are allowed as they do not effect successes.

III.) Sex changers are allowed if the pack can afford them

IV.) Personality changers can be used once per in game year (24 days), provided the pack can buy one.




ROLES AND THEIR LIMITS
Scouts
I.) Only one scout allowed.

II.) Only two rescouts count per day
IIb.) Excess Scouts are for EXP purposes only

III.) Items brought back from rescouts will be the sole source of amusement for all wolves in the pack.

IV.) Amusement items collected must be used on the same day they are collected.

V.) Any leftovers will be discarded at the end of the day.

VI.) Only other possible source of amusement is salvaging rotting food of the pack for the chance get bones.


Hunters
I.) Only one hunt team allowed per 5 wolves (not counting lead.)
> Ib.) You get only 4 hunts per team that count
>Ic.) All rules still apply for failures

II.) Only first four hunts allowed to count per day.
> IIb.) Additional hunts are for EXP purposes only
> IIc.) Failed EXP hunts do not result in chasing a wolf

III.) The pack may only eat from the first four hunts of the day.

IV.) Carcasses brought back from hunts will be the sole source of food for all wolves in the pack, and secondary carcasses are not allowed in case of unsuccessful hunt (must be thrown away or used for non-challenge wolves).

V.) Any carcasses collected must be used on the same day they are collected.

VI.) Food may be "sacrificed" prior to the ability to salvage it in order to gain amusement items. Per game mechanics, amusement gained = half the number of uses of food (ex. 8 uses of food = 4 uses of amusement). 1 use carcasses (ex. rat) = 1 amusement.
> VIb.) Exception: The alpha (or alphas, if a breeding pair has been established) of the Wolvlocke pack may have their Mood maintained at 40% by non-Wolvlocke items if no Wolvlocke items are available. These wolves are too dedicated to their pack to leave out of boredom or discontent.

VII.) Any leftovers will be discarded or sold at the end of the day.

VIII.) All hunts must be successful.

IX.) If a hunt is failed, the wolf responsible must be chased and replaced with another (if chasers are responsible, pick one of the three to chase). - To determine fault the phrase used on the hunt result:
> Stalker: "lost track of the prey relatively early on"
> Chasers: "lost track of the prey during the chase"
> Finisher: "unfortunately ___ let the prey slip away"

X.) Secondary carcasses brought back despite unsuccessful hunts do not count, a wolf must still be chased.

XI.) On every 5th level (5th, 10th, 15th & 20th) a wolf getting the level up gets one free fail pass to not be chased in failed hunt (if the wolf stays in the pack that long).


Mentors
I.) Only one mentor allowed per role. (Stalker, Chaser, Finisher)

II.) Mentors are allowed only when the pack has an extra member bred and raised to adulthood by the pack to fill or replace the needed role the mentor is giving up.

III.) Only a wolf with the mentor role is allowed to do pup training.

IV.) Wolves being chased can't escape being chased by becoming a mentor - they will be chased anyway.

V.) Mentors need to be at least 5 years old and level 10 to be able to become a mentor.


Pupsitters and Herbalist
I.) These are not allowed.




BREEDING AND PUPS
Breeding
I.) You can have any number of breeding pairs, however the wolves must be part of the pack.

II.) Breeding is allowed only once a year during Spring season

III.) Pregnant mother's are not allowed to be nested at any point.
> IVb.) Exception: The Alpha Female may be nested.

IV.) Only one breeding per pair is allowed.
> Vb.) Exception: The Alpha Pair may be bred up to two times.

VI.) Maximum of two pups are allowed to be kept, any others to be chased the day of birth.

VII.) You can breed a wolf outside the pack but they cannot have a higher generation then the female you're trying to breed. (Ex, an NBW female has to be bred to an NBW male, they cannot breed to a gen 2 or higher wolf.)


Pup raising and training
I.) No pups are to be protected by pupsitters at any point.

II.) Only eligible way to boost survival is full mood and hunger.

III.) Pup training is allowed only if the pack has a mentor for the role.

IV.) No outside training is allowed.

V.) Adolescent apprenticeship is allowed only by pack members. No outside apprenticeship is allowed.




SICKNESS IN THE PACK

I.) No herbalist allowed.

II.) Any wolves with a sickness must be forced to live with it rest of their live, or until possible random cure at in-game RO.

III.) Quarantining sick wolves is not allowed (or if allowed, they will be the last ones to get any food or amusement that has left over).

IV.) Wolves must be chased if the sickness is job prohibiting (ear mites) and you cannot afford to cure them.

V.) Wolves with uncurable contagious and lethal illnesses (distemper) must be chased to avoid spread if unhealed by the end of the day.

> I forgot to flip a coin for the winter thing, of the females only Muirgen and Cassiopea appear pregnant! Still going to be interesting to say the least, since Cassiopea may have up to 3 pups. I think with going through amusement or having to sell their scraps they could afford one nesting material but that's for Sutekh eventually since regular females can't be nested :3 suppose I should say sorry.

> First hunt of the day started, they really tried to get me with two large trails and a small, but I went for the one critter lmao they don't need that much food, critters work great. Edit: Hare acquired, and a grouse on the second one, and a second hare on the third lmao
> They only gave me a small and two mediums on their last valid hunt, they actually caught another porcupine, I'm genuinely bamboozled, they're succeeding??
> Team 2 had two successes, both grouses, and then decided to give me a small and two larges lmao. Let's see if it's their downfall today
> It was their downfall, Aethion couldn't handle it, rip the streak
> At least they end on a success for the season, and got a grouse to sell to help make up for the infection balm Koronis needed. They also all reached level 5! I'm so proud, earning themselves and the team one free pass

> So in my drowsiness at RO I clicked play all, so they got played with without getting their own toys -.- consider it a gift for completing spring I guess
> First day, no safety net, let's see how it goes! Critter trails are at 100% medium trails at 50 so that's not so bad I think. I think I'll stick to critter trails unless it forces me to do otherwise or until it's needed cause they really don't need more right now tbh and there's no point pushing for more just to sell.

> Critters all day except one small hunt where I got a porcupine! They're doing well and I'm proud, but with 100% success rate it's hard to fuck it up. With their pack size and the fact I'd only be keeping two pups I don't see them needing more then 8 critters a day for a while, so they're fairly safe. Plus whatever's leftover isn't excessive so they aren't making bank selling extras to raccoon so I feel like my anxious staying safe path will work out in the long term, at least till winter.

> Also, all puppies born successfully! Koronis isn't that pleased they appeared pregnant, and with eight new yapping annoyances he feels unheard so he's not ecstatic with the appearances. I've named the two (one from each liter) that I would keep if they make it (since no pupsitters allowed) Hope. If they get to 100% survival and stay there then I'll name them.
> If I have him switch mates to Muirgen he might get protective of the pups, especially the hope one, but at the same time I feel like him taking her as a mate would make him ignore them more since they were never his... I'll figure it out

> So, because of work and mental health I forgot to record for literal weeks, but I was on every day and ik they caught enough to feed themselves and keep mood at 100%
> The pups are still going strong, doing really well in fact, they'll soon be Adols and their survival bar won't matter so if them suddenly needing 2 good uses becomes a problem they won't have to be fed and played with every day They are in fact Adols, 2 uses of food each is a little nerve wracking but it's working. There are two members of the pack not pulling enough weight stats wise for their levels so they likely will be getting the boot soon as Koronis will not tolerate weakness among his newly formed pack.
> Koronis ik is losing patience with feeding and playing with the yappers every damn day or otherwise facing scorn and distaste from their mothers, one of which is a prospective mate who he's still trying to convince he didn't murder one of their pups (which may or may not be true.)

> I'm also eternally impressed because both teams have pulled in multiple Elk Bulls and Elk Cows and have easily sustained their pack at the numbers here.
