Once Upon A Time....in England

England, the land of history and propriety, a country bound by laws not written but stemming from times past. This story would seem an ordinary one - a tale of brotherhood, friendship, rivalry, petty wars and long term alliances. On a typical rainy day in September, two young men are forced to meet for the first times within the confines of the ancient walls of Glouchester Abbey, a prestigious private boarding school for the European elite where future leaders, politicians, businessmen and sometimes even artists are cultivated from young boys to brilliant young men and leaders. This is their story...

Benjamin threw his shoulder bag on the ground by the bed before flopping onto it without a care in the world, inwardly pleased at his personal rebellion of wearing travel clothes upon freshly made and laundered sheets. It would vex his mother no doubt but within the walls of Glouchester Abbey, there would be no one to tell her how 'carelessly' he was acting. The old springs under a new mattress squeaked in a way that made him smirk - it was a truth universally whispered about among the upperclassmen that the only reason the old school refused to update those old bedframes was to ensure no young men could flaunter around with young ladies in any manner. The real reason was probably that the school simply didn't want to ruin the handmade craftsmanship of old English wood but they couldn't expect their charges to be reasonable about it.

Sighing and bringing his wrist with his custom made watch to view, Ben sighed before closing his eyes. Muster was about to begin - thankfully the last one - which meant that sooner, rather than later, at least some of his classmates would come pounding on his door. It wasn't that Ben disliked his classmates - with some on the rugby team he was quite close - but his shyness had caused him to seem aloof to most and created a separation he no longer wished to breech. While he had no intent to follow his uncle's footsteps, he had been expected to be within the school's student body, acting student president and getting some of the highest marks in his stream. There was constant pressure on him to be....well, perfect and it sapped his energy far more than he cared to admit. Thus, he tried to stay away from the spotlight that was constantly cast upon him but the more he tried to escape it, the more he seemed to be within it.

"Ben, open up!" the wooden door to his room could not block out the sounds of pounding and what seemed to be his closest friend's voice. "I know you're there! If you don't open up, I will force my way in! Me and the lads!"

"Charlie, calm down," the amused chuckle belonged to the other member of their trio, Thomas O'Connor. "Ain' much we can do if he is hidin'. Well, aside from beatin' him up in the first practice."

"BEN!" Sighing, the young man got himself off the bed and walked to the door, opening it and stepping to the side to avoid his mate stumbling in, most likely having been attempting to unsuccessfully knock the door down. Watching him with faint amusement, Benjamin turned to face the grinning ginger now laughing heartedly as he watching Charlie recovered within the room.

"I tol' 'im not no rush but ya kno' how Charlie gets," Thomas' accent grew thicker as his amusement grew and if it wasn't the eighth year the boys were together, Ben wondered if he would have been able to make out what the Irish said. "T'is the muster that got 'em hoppin' mad. He couldn' shut up about his summer passion - can ya believe t'is was Marie Lane?"

"You would need to be blind to not appreciate how she matured," Charlie shrugged, dusting off invisible dirt from his cardigan. "And the way she acted around me this summer..."

"Save your stories for your Don Juan club," Ben responded drily, waiting for the dark-haired man to exit before closing the door to his room and starting down the hall. His classmates nodded and called out greetings as they went, Ben smiling slightly in greeting to his rugby teammates, shaking his head at the few tossing around the rugby ball. The young freshmen streaming and chatting with excitement among themselves grew quiet as the trio continued on, getting out of their way as though they were rats clearing space before three lions. Shaking his head, Ben continued on, not sparing any of the younger boys a glance. As the trio continued, Thomas and Charlie exchanging stories more amusing for Benjamin to hear, they made their way to the large old hall of ceremonies, standing in their usual place near the back pillars and watching the rest of the students stream in. Looking upon all those walking past, Benjamin grinned. It was promising to be a good year.

Ethan's non existent luck managed to buy him plenty of traffic on his cab ride to his new hell hole. After taking the advice of some eccentric characters to have some real fun the teen was caught trespassing while so drunk he could barely stand. While a minor and common offense for a teen his age his parents reputation and their expectations couldn't wouldn't allow it. So with some bribery by his parents the offense was forgotten by the police. But there was nothing Ethan could bribe his parents with to not punish him, and no excuse he could use to squirm to freedom. And so, he was sent to what he could only imagine was hell. A private school full of rich snobs in a foreign country where he would have no friends or relatives to run to. He would be stuck at this damn school where he was supposed to learn some manners. Learn how to behave.

A snarl twisted his face and the cab driver gave him a disdainful look that Ethan just scoffed at. He couldn't believe he was here. This had to be the biggest over reaction he had ever seen from his parents, and everything they did was an over reaction. They had even contemplated wiping the contacts on his phone. In the end they only got rid of the female ones and left the numbers of his buddies. This was their only act of pity in his opinion. Ethan knew they were out to make him so miserable he wouldn't act out again. So far it was working. He wanted to go back home soon as possible and he wasn't even there yet.

Ethan wasn't prepared for what he saw when he did arrive. Everything was old. Quickly paying the cab driver Ethan tumbled out and dashed towards where the dorms were marked on the map in his hand. A certain number was circled on the map and the teen was out of breath as he hurriedly walked past a trio, a barely noticeable blur in the hub of students. Throwing open the door of the dorm room he was assigned Ethan chucked his duffle into the room. The door slammed, causing everyone around to collectively jump. Weaving through the slower students he thankfully made it to the hall of ceremonies. He stuck out like a sore thumb as he stood off to the side of the throng of teens. Knowing no one he had nobody to cling to, to show he wasn't a lonely looser. Hopefully not everyone in this school was a snot nosed brat and he would find some bearable guys to hang out with. It probably would be a good idea to try out for a sport, then he would surely find some guys he fit in with: least well enough that this year wouldn't be miserable. Plus his parents might see it as a sign of reform and not make him stay in this country for college as well.

He knew he was being harsh on this place, and it was probably a nice place. But, the reasons he was sent here painted it all black. Shaking his head and trying to ease his facial expression into something that wasn't pissed, Ethan glanced around. His eyes briefly stalled on the noticeable trio he had passed on his way to his dorm. A small curse fell under his breath as he realized he hadn't glanced around to see if he had a dorm mate yet.
