【The Kohana Pack】

Pack Theme

The sun set over the vast Mojave Desert, and the rocks were colored a fiery red. Nothing but a dry gust of wind blows by, which provides little relief from the day's relentless heat. Suddenly, from atop a red sandstone outcrop, a caramel colored wolf steps forth. His olive eyes scan you for a few moments, and then he turns to leave. You stumble up the outcropping, but by the time you reach the top, there is not a trace of the wolf at all.

⋅ ⋅ ── ✩ ── ⋅ ⋅

The Kohana Pack is a nomadic pack, although at one point and time, they had been settlers. Fate, however, had not been kind to them, and despite multiple attempts to hunker down in a specific spot, they eventually decided to make the most of their ill fortune.

Currently, their travels have taken them to the Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada. The landscape is rugged and dry, a stark comparison to their most recently former rainforest home. The days are dry and arid, with little rest from the heat. It almost seems to burn at night, as the red sandstone alights under the setting sun's beams, and the nights are typically incredibly cold. However, there is very little wolf confrontation, there is ample amount of prey, and the pack remains hidden from curious human eyes.

⋅ ⋅ ── ✩ ── ⋅ ⋅

【Game Rules】

✩ The pack may not have more than 30 members, unless absolutely necessary.

✩ Pack leadership is passed via Camellia's bloodline.

✩ Wolves, as of generation 4, should be at least semi-realistic.

✩ When I breed, I may not inbreed my wolves.

✩ Until you've been to all biomes, you must move to a new one when a new alpha steps up. (Biomes I've been to: Decidous Forest, Mountains, Rainforest, Desert, Swamp)

【Culture】

The story of the Kohana Pack started in a Coniferous Forest, although the pack never did quite learn the name of it or where it was exactly, as Camellia never disclosed such information. Her birth pack was led by an alpha, a lead hunter, and an herbalist would provide advice to the pair.

Camellia, the pack's first Alphess and founder of sorts, grew up here. She was not of high status, but neither of low. Despite this, her mother expected much of her, being the pack's resident herbalist. She would teach Camellia all the herbs, remedies, and drill it into her daily. As a pup, Camellia loved, "playing with the flowers," as she thought it was. However, as she grew older, Camellia began to feel overworked and disenchanted with the idea. But she continued with a servant's heart, not wanting her mother to feel sad, especially after the death of her father.

When she grew to adulthood, her mother gave her what she thought was great news. She would officially become the herbalist's assistant! But she didn't want to become the herbalist. She simply wanted her mother to be happy.

That night, Camellia did what she never would have thought. She fought with her mother. Not just words-- snarling, biting, and tearing-- as the argument grew in intensity. Camellia, weaker and inexperienced, lost the fight. Tears of indignation welled in Camellia's eyes, and she sprinted off into the woodlands.

While out on her own, she met other runaways, misfits, or simply roamers of whom she welcomed into her traveling party. Soon, they decided to settle in the deciduous forest and form the Kohana Pack, of which swelled in numbers.

Camellia founded her pack upon simple principles. Treat others kindly, and always welcome those in need, but do not allow yourself to be taken advantage of. Because of this, the Kohana Pack can be wary of outsiders, but will allow them refuge and company or a fierce fight once you make your intentions known.

⋅ ⋅ ── ✩ ── ⋅ ⋅

【Hierarchy】

The Kohana Pack is led by two wolves, an Alpha (or Alphess) and their mate. Whichever wolf is the descendant of Camellia is the true leader, and holds more power, although their mate is also to be obeyed and respected. Typically, the mate doesn't play a huge role in leadership, such as Kobayashi or Seraphina, although mates like Ghy or Warragul have been more involved in assisting their mates with their duties.

In times of emergency, a sibling or cousin may temporarily step up. If they also remain unavailable, then temporary leadership falls to one of the pack's two scouts.

While there is an Alpha, the pack also typically contributes to large decisions.

【Traditions】

The Kohana Pack is one centered around bonds, friendship, and loyalty. Because of this, there are many traditions the pack enjoy celebrating, and gather together for.

When a litter of pups are born, the pack will cease all hunts, and the mate of the wolf will go out and catch whatever they can, be it a large elk or small rabbit, and return it to the new mother. The lead pup sitter will judge the kill and deem it worthy, in which the mother will eat it, or if they deny it, the pack will eat the kill. If the mother does not have a mate in the pack (for example, they bred to a stud or their mate has died) she may choose a wolf to hunt for her. As there are no other hunts permitted for the day, the pack wolves may only eat enough to not go hungry, or if the prey was denied, she may only eat enough to sustain her pups.

Upon a pack member's passing, the wolf is taken by their closest friend and brought to a spot they would have thought the deceased liked, or perhaps frequented. After this, they are buried, and if they have a family, the family shall sing a mourning song for them. Once the song ends, the family remains and all other wolves disperse except for the herbalist, who presents a flower or plant they feel best symbolized the now-fallen pack member. The herbalist may then leave or stay, according to the family's wishes, and the family is not to be disturbed until the next morning, unless they return earlier.

When a wolf takes a mate, a few things must happen. For one, the wolf must propose with an item-- be it food, a shiny rock, flower, or even a stolen human trinket. If the wolf accepts, the two will head to a running body of water, and drop the proposal item in the stream (If no water is available, they will bury it) and watch it flow down the current or sink to the bottom together. Once the item is out of sight, the two will head back to the pack, and share a howl in unison. When the howl rings out, wolves will race to find the item. If the item is not found by sundown (or sunrise, if the proposal was at night) there is no effect. However, if the item is found, the wolf who finds it is supposedly destined to find true love.

If a new wolf joins, not much of a celebration is held, although they are welcomed. This is because it isn't the most uncommon occurrence for a wolf to join the pack.

Delja, the Kohana Pack's third Alphess, loved music. Because of this, she began a new tradition. Each season, the pack gathers in a designated spot, under an open and starry sky. A single wolf will play an instrument (in Delja's case, an ocarina) and the pack will sing along or simply relax to the melody. They socialize, relax, and even nap, until sun up, when the wolf playing the music will finally cease, and take a long rest.

【Law】

There are few laws in the Kohana Pack, primarily because of how relaxed the leadership is. However, there is a low tolerance for infighting, and murder is unacceptable. Thievery, so long as it is petty, is tolerated, but still somewhat frowned upon.

The law applies to all members, including those that are not wolves. The Kohana Pack, has allowed three dogs, a coywolf, a vixen, and a single dingo into the pack, and even the leaders Kohana Pack leaders are of wolfdog lineage. Because of this, there is no discrimination between canine species.

On a similar note, other canine species found in the territory may not be attacked unprovoked, and only killed if absolutely necessary. Dogs, under any circumstances, may not be killed, as they are revered by many of the Kohana Pack wolves, particularly the leaders, of whom are of wolfdog descent.

【Names】

Names in the Kohana Pack are usually more human-like, with names such as Dublin, Esmae, Aisling, or Saskia, as the pack tends to favor names with deeper meaning. However, nature or other animal names are also rather common, like Coyote, Hibiscus, Lark, or Mango, and are still just as appreciated.

【Territory】

Being a nomadic pack, the Kohana Pack doesn't stay one place long. Although Camellia intended for her pack to live peacefully in the Deciduous Forest for generations, ill fate and fortune, along with a terrible illness, had pushed them to move from their beloved forest to Lassen Peak, California, where they settled in the somewhat cold mountains. Afterwards, they sought a new start southwards, but in a desperate attempt for some food, ended up on a ship headed to Australia, and settled in the Daintree Rainforest in Queensland. After being discovered by humans and trying to be taken for research, they travelled across the continent towards the Outback desert in Western Australia, where a dingo named Warragul helped them slip undetected onto a cargo ship. Afterwards, they snuck onto a large truck all the way to Las Vegas, Nevada. Once the truck stopped, they all ran off towards the Mojave Desert, where they found refuge in the Valley of Fire.

The valley of fire is almost fifty thousand acres of purely red sandstone, shaped by large rushes of water from long ago. Cracks and crevices, along with ravines and outcrops, give each of the rocks their own unique look. Aside from ancient petrified trees occasionally appearing, there's little amount of trees. Cacti sprinkle the land, and other desert shrubs sprout up here and there, but there isn't much greenery in the otherwise red land.

Water is scarce in most places, aside from the Fire Wave, a small waterfall in the Valley of Fire. Aside from that, there is seldom more than four inches of rain, so the Kohana Pack often guards their only reliable source of water from other animals.

During the relentless heat of the day, the pack seeks refuge in many of the caverns, rest under arches, and admire the view in open caves, though they may leave to scout, hunt, or even just sunbathe on the warm red rocks.

【Landmarks】

THE ALOE ARCOVE is a large, wide gap in the sandstone which forms, well, an arcove. Aloe grows on the cliff sides below, and the view of the surrounding land is simply stunning. It provides ample shelter, and is where the alpha and his or her family dwell in as their den.

THE CACTUS FIELDS are also a rather obvious landmark. Fishook barrel, saguaro, king cup, ocotillo, and prickly pear cactuses scatter the open sandy field. Aloe and other desert shrubs also grow aplenty here, and a small crawl-space like space in a nearby outcropping are where the scouts sleep and rest. It's rather cozy, even though it's a bit snug. When it rains, desert wildflowers sprout for a few moments.Though Kaleho prefers sleeping in the open, on particularly cold nights, he joins Saskia in the shelter.

THE CHOLLA CAVERN is a large, spacious cavern that serves at the herbalist's den. Small stalactites hang from the ceiling, and soft tumbleweed serve as bedding for herbalist patients. Natural grooves in the wall provide shelving for the many herbs and concoctions the herbalist creates and stores, while a small hole in the roof serves as a skylight. The entry is obscured by cholla cacti, and is relatively well-hidden.

COYOTE'S SLOT CANYON is a narrow... well... slot canyon where the hunters go to rest, named after the coywolf huntress of the same name. It leads to a rather spacious cave at the end, where the hunters sleep. Though meant for the hunters, it also serves as a shortcut, place to rest, or explore for a rather curious pup, and so it is a rather popular spot.

THE NURSING TREE is an old petrified tree stump, with a burrow underneath. It's a rather spacious burrow, and the pups along with the pupsitters live here. It's relatively cool, with soft sand underpaw, and some soft shrub bedding. The perfect place to keep pups safe, comfortable, and hidden!

SERAPHINA'S STREAM is a dried up streambed that only has water flowing through when it (seldom) rains. The name of the stream is from the Kohana Pack's first, and very mischievous, dog. It has lots of different rocks and pebbles lining the sides, and it's more elevated in some places than the others. Although they do not live here, adolescents frequent the spot. Whether it's to chat, play, or relax depends on the individual.

RUST RAVINE is a large ravine with dens on either side. Wolves without a specific role in the pack live here, and simply do as they please. It's usually rather quiet, but also serves as a gathering place for many events and traditions of the pack.

【Pack】

The Kohana Pack is made up of many wolves, all very different in looks and personalities. No two wolves are the same, so why not meet them all? They're all listed below, aside from former pack members, who you can read about in the Dynasty.

If you're interested in a specific wolf, click their name! It will take you to their page.

⋅ ⋅ ── ✩ ── ⋅ ⋅

【Alphas】

Kuparr
Kuparr is Camellia's great-grandson, and the fourth ruler of the Kohana Pack. His fur is brown, painted with auburn marks, giving him a somewhat reddish hue. Kuparr is somewhat short for a male wolf due to the fact his mother was a wolfdog, but he does not let his size stop him, nor is he sensitive about it. He is dutiful, and tends to put the pack first. Though the alpha, he always to pitches in, helping whenever he can rather than throwing his title around and having others do the work.

Warragul
Warragul is perhaps the only remnant of the Kohana Pack's life in Australia, being a dingo. Many of the wolves who first join are curious as to what she is: she looks dog-like, but is more wild and lanky like a wolf. Her coat is a sandy yellow, and her gray eyes tend to sparkle with admiration for her fellow pack members. Many find Warragul hard to dislike, as she is rather amiable, and she loves to lend a paw here and there, as well as talk with her fellow pack members.

【Scouts】

Saskia
Saskia's glare, and temperament, is as sharp as daggers. She has an almost pure wild look, brown fur with falcon feathers in it, an old cape, and seemingly constantly narrowed gray eyes. However, she is well respected in the pack, since her mother Cerulea was the pack's best scout. She became head scout after her mother's passing, and does her job just as well, if not better. The only wolves she seems to be kind to is her brother Colton and her mate Yukon, but she merely tolerates everyone else.

Kaleho
Kaleho is a great scout, and far more friendly than his co-worker. His hazel eyes shine with pride, and his apricot colored fur is well-kept, despite all the adventures he goes on with it. Kaleho is distantly related to Kuparr, as his second cousin, which he will boast about on multiple occasions, as well as his "handsome looks." Despite this, he's still rather friendly and loves a bit of mischief, and isn't afraid to get his paws dirty if it means a bit of fun. (So long as he can clean it later, heh!)

【Herbalist】

Saira
Saira was a young but knowledgable wolf when she first took up the role of being herbalist. Though many doubted her for her age at first, everyone soon came to realize that she was indeed incredible at her new position. She loves company and to chat, particuarly with her mother Maja or her brother Lennox.

【Pupsitters】

Dublin
Dublin is a rather dapper wolf, with soft white eyes and with what most consider to be a perfect pelt. His white eyes shine with determination, but also joy, when he is playing with pups. He acts as the lead pupsitter for the Kohana Pack, as he does his job with precision and a constant smile. Pups especially enjoy his company, and are more than happy to play some tag with him.

Kanikonna
Kanikonna is Kuparr's older cousin, and the sole daughter of Hibiscus. She loves pups, and is incredibly dedicated to taking care of them. Kanikonna's fur is golden, which her mate Alaric says matches her heart. After watching her care for the pups, it is obvious to see his statement is true. Her harvest crown is incredibly old, as it was first worn by the pack's founder, Camellia.

Mango
Mango is one of three siblings adopted into the Kohana Pack, his brother and sister being Lark and Nimbus. The trio were found abandoned under a rock overhang, and taken back and raised together. He is sociable and happy, with his red-orange coat glowing in the desert sun. Mango loves chatting and listens to all the pups advice, treating them as equals.

Helga
Helga's a rather quiet wolf, seldom speaking but always looming. Most of the pups seem to forget she's even there, but she certainly doesn't forget them. Helga watches her pups with a keen eye, ensuring they are safe and unharmed while she's there.

【Hunters】

Ronan
Kitiara's Blade Stalker
Ronan is a peculiar wolf. He's loud and makes random and obscure jokes just because he can. To the naked eye, he's simply some dumb, rowdy wolf seeking attention. But in reality, he's incredibly intelligent and skillful, stalking and tracking prey with incredible expertise. Most of the pack either seems to hate him with a passion, or find him to be a cool companion.

Alaric
Kitiara's Blade Chaser
Alaric and his twin sister, Leota, are both chasers on Kitiara's Blade. The two are incredibly close, and Alaric in particular is very dedicated to everyone he knows, family especially. Both of the twins are well-respected, being the grandchildren of Coyote, one of the pack's best chasers, despite being a coywolf. He's kind and always tries to put a smile on someone's face, but sometimes he just doesn't know when someone just wants a minute alone.

Leota
Kitiara's Blade Chaser
Leota is Alaric's twin sister, and one of the three chasers on Kitiara's Blade. Leota is less chatty than her brother, but still remains well-liked, as she is incredibly reliable. She's always willing to help her fellow hunters, and you can surely count on her. Leota tries her best to make her team, mother, and grandmother, proud.

Nimbus
Kitiara's Blade Chaser
Nimbus is a triplet, though she's the only girl in batch. She's often sarcastic, and although she typically means it affectionately, a lot of wolves believe she doesn't care or is trying to pick fights. Although somewhat disliked, many agree that Nimbus is an incredibly good chaser!

Colton
Kitiara's Blade Finisher
Although Colton is Saskia's twin brother, he has a more neutral temperament. He's nice and polite, but will ensure that everyone pulls their fair share of weight. Colton's not shy about calling others out either, if rightfully deserved. Colton takes his job seriously, and fully accepts failures on his behalf, perhaps a bit too seriously, as he even passes up dinner if he completely fails a hunt. His mate, Louve, was the team's former stalker, and although now retired, she still enjoys watching Kitiara's Blade hunt.

Kuroda
Bloodtrail Beserkers Stalker
Although Kuroda's smart and wise, he isn't pleasant to be around. Should a wolf greet him, he'd simply walk by, blatantly ignoring them. Kuroda prefers to do things his way, and has a hard time working in groups, which is why it's rather surprising that he works on a hunting team so well. Regardless, the unfriendly wolf spends most of his time alone solving puzzles.

Maja
Bloodtrail Beserkers Chaser
Maja's always running. Whether it be after her pups, or chasing prey, the motherly wolf is always moving. Maja's a great huntress, there is no doubt, but an even better mother. Her three children, Lennox, Saira, and Krysztal, adore her, as well as many of the other pups. Whenever Maja has a moment of free time, she's almost always napping. The grulla she-wolf is often tired, and has a hard time keeping her eyes open-- much less having a full-fledged conversation about the day's events.

Warragul
Bloodtrail Beserkers Chaser
Warragul is not only the Alphess of the Kohana Pack, but also a huntress on Bloodtrail Beserkers. She's the first lead mate to have an official role in the pack since Kobayashi, her mate's great-grandfather. Warragul does her best to keep her hunting team's spirits up, and loves a good chase.

Yukon
Bloodtrail Beserkers Chaser
At a first glance, someone might mistake Yukon for a lazy pack member who sleeps his days away. While this is in part true, Yukon is actually an incredibly determined and skilled wolf-- having enough speed and stamina to run down large prey. Once his work is done, though, he eats his share and loafs about the rest of the day. To the surprise of many, his mate Saskia is often kind to him, a courtesy the scout doesn't extend to most.

Otter
Bloodtrail Beserkers Finisher
Otter's clever and playful, much like his namesake. He's clever and often finds ways or tools he can use to rig traps for small critters, or catch prey easier. When he's not tinkering, Otter's often splashing in what little water can be found or playing tag with the pups. The entire pack finds him very helpful, and is always eager to see what he comes up with.

【Others】

Louve
Louve is an incredibly wise and smart wolf, and the former stalker for Kitiara's Blade. Though retired, Louve can't quite get used to the idea of a laid-back lifestyle, and often teaches the pups to keep herself busy. Many wolves in the pack praise and admire her skills, which the humble she-wolf modestly brushes aside.

Lark
Nimbus and Lark's irrepressibly optimistic brother. Though his appearance is rather intimidating, particularly his scarred snout and strong build, he's often humming cheerfully to himself or bringing back snacks for many of the pups. While he doesn't have a particular role in the pack, many believe he will likely become a finisher at some point.
