Does Your Pack Have Lore?

Posted 2020-09-29 14:42:07

Oh wow, I need to catch up on this thread and read everyone's ideas, haha

@Crickets- Sorry, I somehow completely skipped over your compliments earlier. Thank you! I actually used a couple of reference pictures for Ourkan to make him look more like a real wolf :)

@Laura-Mae- Thank you as well! I've had quite a few dogs that are "talkers" and I find it loads of fun to try and come up with clever ways to describe the sounds.

I've also had quite a lot of positive feedback on my lore over on tumblr, so I'll be adding a thread to compile my (very) short stories and make it accessible to everyone ^u^

@Crickets It's really simple, mostly smashing together syllables to come up with prefixes, suffixes, and rootwords. It's mostly so my names have some coherency, lol.

@VagueShapes That actually sounds really cool :o I was thinking about doing something with wolf-like sounds, but I thought it'd be too hard, haha.

Great idea!

I have basic lore for all wolves in my den and intend to expand on it, probably with art, as I can.

@Crickets - Thanks so much for your kind words! 💖 And that's exactly what I was going for with my den page (with the rankings list), so I take that as a big compliment. I'm glad it came across alright! 🤩 Also thanks for the compliment on my Leader. I'm a huge sucker for that Irish marking lol. And yeees, drabbles are so much easier, but you can still get lots of character development and interesting story-telling moments from them...without all the stress of planning out (or not planning, lol) a huge story.

@VagueShapes - Ooh, I'd love to see the thread that you make! Your lore already sounds so interesting, so I'd love to do some more reading about it whenever it's available!

Also just popping in to add... I'm playing around with the idea of introducing unique fighting moves/fighting styles into my lore. Not sure if anyone here has heard of the NofNa (Nature of Nature's Art) series of webcomics, but that's definitely a huge part in inspiring this! Basically animals that live in a societyTM and do cool superpower-like kung-fu fights haha. It's pretty awesome!

I actually spent a while formatting the other day and it's up now:

Coal Valley Lore Short Stories

They're actually a lot longer than I thought they were. It doesn't seem like much when you're in one of those extreme writing moods though, haha

.:ANCESTORS:.

The night is silent as fog swirls across the ground, covering the damp earth like a soft blanket. Stars litter the sky in hidden patterns and the wind brings a chill to all the creatures wandering in the night. Moonlight casts eerie shadows through the pine trees as they sway together in a dance only they know. Shapes bleed from the dark shadows and sleek pelts shimmer under the moon’s glow as the wolves make themselves known…

Odair, a wise and noble wolf, with eyes of liquid diamond and a pelt of shadows. With an odd patch of white that wraps around his muzzle, he is distinguishable among all the rest. Odair was called to the stars at an old age, after many years of serving as Alpha. Great-Grandfather of Celestial River’s current Alpha, Noctavia.

Alsephina, a fierce and loyal mother, her pelt is streaked with silver and speckled with obsidian. Making her shining emerald eyes stand out against the dark hues and shades of her fur. Alsephina was called to the stars after protecting her pups from a rival Pack. Mother of Celestial River’s Beta, Omen.

Delphini, a cunning and observant young wolf, a marbled pelt of black and white makes her stand out against the natural flora of the mountains. Her silver eyes seem to reflect the moon in an eerie way. Delphini was called to the stars after straying too far from the Pack’s territory and crossing paths with a hunter. Younger Sister of Orion.

Koa, a brave and daring little pup with curious gray eyes. Soft smokey fur and too-big paws make his youth obvious. Koa was called to the stars after sickness spread through the Pack and claimed the lives of he and many of his packmates. Son of Alsephina and Brother of Celestial River’s Beta, Omen.

I am immensely enjoying reading through everyone's lore! @Tharkenta, I, too, have an insatiable bond with Red Dead Redemption 2, so your little newspaper article was awesome to read. It is so interesting to see everybody's different take on wolves and the lives they lead: fantasy or otherwise.

My own pack has a vague outline of lore that I drew up long ago. I'm digging up old pieces of work on "The Banished Lands" and the pack (kingdom) that resides within it. I hope to get wolf biographies done and then move on to piecing together some lore and plot for my pack. I'm doing my best not to get overwhelmed. It'll be nice to have this thread to come back to and cool down by reading writings other than my own.

Cattie-Brie is my first attempt at drawing out a history and biography for one of my wolves.

I’m going with something I haven’t seen before... let me tell you guys, it’s a challenge for sure, but I’m taking it slow to try my best not to overwhelm myself.

My pack (Bluecrown) is essentially a kingdom, with a king, queen, princesses and princes, bastard sons/daughters, and a royal scientist & herbalist (which I shortened to RSH), as well as commoners and warriors.

I wanted my pack to be very intelligent, and as someone interested in certain sciences, I decided to incorporate a little science-y stuff, as well as experiments, etc. As these are wolves we’re talking about, I’m going to keep any major scientific revelations out of it (we don’t need a wolf “creating”  a lightbulb okay?). I’m leaning towards having them create elaborate traps/defenses against other packs, as well as other small inventions to make life slightly easier. Nothing that would make them stand out horribly, like full on gold temples, or things like chandeliers haha.

Im also interested in having a really well thought out culture involving the old wolves of the pack (what I call the storytellers) and their ancestors.

I truly like the idea of a kingdom, so maybe I’ll create some other things that might be associated with a kingdom, like a type of market, although I’m still undecided.

All in all, I’m very excited to write everything and keep on building my ides until I get to the place I want it to be at!

Foggy doggy: I read some of your lore earlier today and just wanted to say that it’s fantastic so far! I love the idea of a kingdom focused on science and understanding, I feel like it opens up a lot of opportunity for plotlines and political drama 👀

Sunhollow has just some stuff I threw onto the thread while it was still fresh in my mind - i’m trying to construct some lore that integrates with the way I play and right now it’s kinda meh but I intend to eventually make it all pretty and also include snippets from different wolves’ points of view 🤔
