------ You've been walking for hours. This pack's territory is large, spanning dense forests and unforgiving mountain peaks. You're aware of this pack, but don't know them well. They're secretive, and wary of strangers. You, however, have been invited here. You can smell them now, you're close. As you pick your way up the mountainside, the pines give way to a massive, towering oak. It's roots wind down into the cliff side behind it, securing it against the winds. A den opens up between them, and you sense an elaborate cave system has been dug between the roots. This ridge is lively and active. Wolves come and go, hunters drag a carcass into view while puppies wrestle, their pupsitters laying in the sun nearby, chatting idly. Several paces away, a large flat rock juts out from the cliff's edge. Three wolves rest upon it. Two females, their coloration bright and their eyes sharp. And him. He's young, surely not yet out of his adolescence. Still, even from here you can feel him. He practically thrums with lunar energy. His coat is dark and ripples with deep purples and blues when he moves. His eyes, when he turns his gaze on you, are pupil-less, and if not for his uncanny attention on you, you would have thought him blind. Current lead It is believed that heirs are selected before birth by the spirits of passed leaders. Heirs are born with eyes in a distinct shade of almost unnatural yellow. A puppy that has been chosen as an heir is likely to open their eyes somewhat sooner than their siblings, but their development is otherwise unaffected. After a few days, the puppy's eyes shift back into their natural color and remain that way for the rest of their lives. These wolves are also uncommonly affected by the energies of the moon and the Dreamlands. Heirs are always born male. Most heirs are born as the old leader starts to age and approach the end of his life. |
