The Sunset Opossum War

The Sunset Opossum War
Posted 2022-03-31 23:01:44

This Is A Pack Record Both For Me And The Other Person Involved In The Making Of This War. Do Not Reply!

A gray wolf stood on a large black boulder the bleakness of the night left him looking pale, his red eyes shone a crimson bright, the stick on fire he was holding illuminated them nicely and he looked down, next to him stood a wolf whose fur was light gray but had specks of white making him look a the color of steele and he had a smirk on his mouth. The lighter wolf looked over to the darker one and muttered something vain in nature; the dark one glanced up as the light one continued his siren song.
"Tonight they learn. All of them. Just look at how they treated Vapor." they were right in that not only had The Sunset Claws kicked Vapor out of their pack they treated him not as wolf, but as coyote or prey. "We are doing the right thing Koba, you know that '' said the light gray one looking up and for some sort of pride from his alpha but Koba started on into the night, for he was too scared from those he had cared about to care about his followers.
"I know Steele." Said Koba with a snarl, "That was the plan. Tonight we start a war." he flicked his ear to tell Steele this conversation was done.
Koba ran down the left side of the camp burning the grass to create a ring of fire while Steele mirrored it on the right, the desert fascinated Koba in a way to be desired something to conquer, his plan was to kill Alpha Arctic and keep the pack in the desert to keep his pack thriving and to turn it into a colony. Arctic's plan was different; he chased the thought that there was a tropical oasis near the ocean because the scouts had found a coconut and brought it back. Koba looked into one of the dens and saw to his hatred Blood Face, the eldest daughter of Arctic and a war veteran of sorts, and what surrounded her shocked him 4 pups. He stepped back onto a twig and to his horror she awoke.
"Cali? Is that really you?" Her yellow eyes wide with shock.
"Cali is dead. It's Koba, tell your leader Arctic wants war." Koba snarled before jumping into the dark.
Koba felt the wind through his fur after he jumped through the fire and made it to Steele he smiled. His plan has begun.

Blood Face was shocked by him, he was completely different from what she had remembered of him. The male was older and seemed to be more hateful. She quickly checked on her pups to ensure they were within a safe distance, they were piled up on one another keeping warm and comfortable so she quickly made her way to Orkney's den. It was not very far as she was currently in the den with the pupsitters and other pups of different ages which was close to Orkney's den.
As she approached, she saw her alpha curled up around her own 4 pups as they slept. Once she was in the front of the den, the light gold wolf turned her head towards her. "Blood Face? What brings you here at night?" She arranged her pups before standing up and standing in front of her loyal guard. Although they both had nursing pups, they still both did their role within the pack to make sure it ran smoothly.
"Intruders had gotten in. When we were all asleep, I heard one. It was Cali, well that's not his name anymore. He goes by Koba and he says that the Arctic wants war." She spoke with a calm tone but her eyes told a different story. The Sunset Claws were not prepared for war, they always tried to resolve issues in another way rather than through talking or doing small exchanges of food and medicines.
Orkney was especially shocked as Arctic was the male that fathered her pups and as she looked back at them, she knew if a war started it would possibly mean losing them as she had lost the first two. At that thought she turned to Blood Face. "Etienne is too young to run the pack while I am away, I trust you. Run the pack while I am gone." Blood Face instantly nodded before gesturing towards the pups, "What about them?" Orkney could not bear the thought of leaving her pups here where it seemed it was unsafe. "I will bring them with me to the mountains and you must move the pack to the safe area until I return." Blood face understood and that's when they saw flames flickering they both dashed out to see what it was and saw that the majority of the grass were on fire. "Get everyone out of here despite their class. There will be no deaths tonight." She shouted but she was calm and soon the pack was empty so she took her pups, holding them all before jumping over the thin ring of fire.
For many days and nights, she traveled. Until a sunny day when she arrived at the Opossum Pack, everyone stared at her as they had never seen her before and many wolves growled. She stood outside their territory line to ensure her and the pups safety as they whined. "Bring me your leader. Tell him Orkney has come to talk peace."

Arctic got alerted by Black and White one of his royal guards, that Orkney was at the Opossum Pack border, and he was mad. He marched down the royal cave and let out a howl to call all of the packs wolves. He stepped on the hard rock that surrounded their prairie home. Albercuke, his second in command, jumped up next to him followed by the herbalists Romantic and Azure. He looked at the wolves, among them was his mate and children - along with Koba the wolf who shared with him the death of The Reptilian Government, courtesy of The Sunset Claws.Β
"My Wolves I come to you to say, the enemy is here to talk to try to end this war they tried to start. We expect it to be a trap but we will go, and try to keep peace." Arctic spoke his body language stoic.
The pack started to walk to the border feeling the grass crunch under their feet, and the sounds of birds and insects were quiet, whether that was because of the loudness of the pack or they knew the possibility of chaos hung heavy in the air. Arctic looked over at an agitated Albercuke and he knew he had to speak to him.
"My brother, what is hanging on your mind." He said with an ear flick and a sympathetic look to care for Albercuke, and he looked back at the leader.
"I'm scared for them," he said "Arctic Freeze is always out scouting, she would be picked off like a tick, my adopted kiddos are old enough to fight and if my little ones lose my or their mom I don't know how they would make it." Albercuke said with a sigh he was upset but content to get these shattering emotions off his chest.
Arctic nodded at him he knew that he couldn't make it better, this was life and it was filled with war and hurt. Before he knew it he saw a silhouette of a wolf and he knew that was Orkney. He and the wolves made it to the silhouette of the wolf and it revealed that it was in fact Orkney he stared down her eyes.
"Why did you kill The Reptilian Government?" Arctic said

Upon Orkney seeing him, she was instantly agitated and it showed with her body language. She had traveled for some time from the desert to the mountains to speak with their pack peacefully about whatever was happening and he just claimed she or any of her pack had killed some wolf. "I do not know who you speak of. I nor my pack has ever come in contact with a wolf named The Reptilian Government. Why did you set a ring of fire around my pack? If we did not act fast some of us could've died!" She tried to keep herself calm, her tail moving as she sighed.
"I come here to talk peace, I do not want bloodshed of any kind between our packs. I am sorry about your lost wolf but none of my pack was involved in that. But my guard, your daughter Blood Face, was woken last night when she was met with an intruder who she previously knew as Cali. She said he now goes to Koba." She stared at him silently for a moment, "The desert is a hot place, yes, but fires like the one I saw were not natural and I have every right to believe that this Koba has started the fire and I want him." She stood up which caused the pups around her to wiggle and cry but she didn't stop staring at Arctic.
"Why would I want a war when I have given birth to my own pups? I do not want that as they aren't even old enough to do things other than eat and sleep."
"California Love couldn't be here because the injuries your wolves inflicted on him" Arctic snarled, he looked around the trees his wolves were getting restless, Wasp was chatting with Azure and Albercuke was standing proud trying to look as if he was not hurting.
Arctic started to circle Orkney, his breath heavy with anger, his eyes dilated, the fur on his back erect and his teeth snarling. He stopped and looked up at her and stood in silence staring down his enemy, before turning away from her and looking at his pack ready to fight. He released a triumphant howl before snapping his head back to look at Orkney.
"Run" he muttered.
Koba sniffed the forest floor, it smelt of pine needles and his pack but underneath he smelt something, and that something was what he was looking for: the fear scent of a female wolf and her four pups. He smirked and looked at Steele and his new follower Nickel. They also picked up the scent. After he sniffed for a good hour following the scent of she-wolf he looked up to see a sunset. The shades of which were an ominous red alluding to the blood shed to come.
"We need to stop here for the night" chimed Nickel, also looking toward the now dark sky. Her eyes spoke emotions of fear for now that it was too late she regretted scheming with such brutes, she thought about what her father, the alpha of the pack, would say to her and it wasn't pretty.
"No," snarled Koba. " If we don't continue through the night she will certainly get away." The wolf's tone was harsh, far too harsh for a wolf who simply asked a question.
Nickel wanted to rebuttal but when she saw a smug Steele who only cared about approval from a great leader, she let out a sigh and an ok. The scent was getting stronger so at this point she knew she was close to the innocent wolf and her unprotected pups. She winced at the thought of what Koba and Steele would do to them. It hit harder because she lost a brother when she was young, it was an accident and the grizzly was following her instincts to care for her young, but it still stung her.
Koba was the first to see the temporary den that she had dug out in the roots of a large pine. It was a shanty but it had leaves to soften it for her little ones. Koba nodded at Steele with a sinister smile and Steele crept in followed by Koba, and when she saw Koba next he was holding the dead corpse of Sephtis, his neck had been instantly broken by the brute that was Koba and when she looked into his eyes she saw no wolf, all that remained of Koba was a tainted soul of a monster.
Koba watched as Nickel ran off into the night but that was of no bother to him, all that mattered was killing Orkney to be able to in turn kill Arctic. He dropped the limp pup and stared at it, it was limp, lifeless because of his actions, a selfishness he acted on and for a split second he felt guilty but like he has done many times before he repressed it. He watched as Steele woke Orkney and launched toward her neck and he ran out of the den, and slowed to a trot as he walked away from the pain he caused, he morphed back into the innocent he thought deep down he was, he put his mask back on, and tried to put back what he let out of the box, but it was too late and he knew it, he was the monster now.
Orkney was woken up very startled as a male stood by her and went for her neck, she was way faster than the male and she avoided his attack. Her ears pinned back as she snarled at him but before she could attack, the unknown male had run off. She was quite confused by this and instantly looked around at her pups and noticed Sephtis limp by the front of the temporary den, she ran towards him and she knew he was dead. She stared at her pup for a long time before letting out a long painful howl, it could be heard for many miles before she once again got quiet.
There were many scents of a few wolves around the den but before she could move to follow them, she had to give her pup his rightful burial although they weren't in their pack lands, she lifted him up going towards the river. In their pack, they would either bury any wolves or let them go in big bodies of water as it was seen as returning them to the land. She pushed the pup into the river watching as the currents took his body and that's when she let out another howl of loss, pain, and grief. She returned back to the den and got her only three remaining pups and ran, until she couldn't. She made a den and put them deep within it before coming back out and walking back to the old den though it took her hours to do so. Orkney knew her pups were secure and well hidden due to their fur colors. She followed the scents and arrived back at the Opossum Pack.
Her heart was filled with so many emotions but at the same time none at all, this time she did not wait for anyone. She rushed into their pack and followed the scents until she found the very male who had attacked her. She had stayed in the shadows making light work through the trees and rocks. She knew it was almost useless to try to attack as the male stood there near Arctic and a few other pack members but she did not care, she made herself known to the wolves but her eyes never left the male.

Steele looked over after chatting with Golden Retriever to see Orkney standing there panting heavily and he paused. He looked at the stars and sighed before nudging his pup out of his lap and looked at the Golden Retriever.
"I'll be back." Steele said to Brass and Golden Retriever before getting up, he jumped up off the large rock he and his family layed on and walked toward the thick of the pines.
He looked back and saw Orkney was following him and he tuned out everything except the wind and sounds of nature. It was when he noticed how deep he was getting into the forest he realized this was the end of the line, he wasn't coming bad. In that moment he thought about it, his loyalty to Koba had caused this. It was his need to be wanted and his oppressive thoughts and wants led him here. But then again it was going to be ok because at least his daughter would view him as an ok wolf, not the wolf he was, the wolf he should have been. He stopped and looked back to see Orkney enter the grove with him; it was almost a perfect circle barren of trees, a poetic place to die to be sure.
"Look Orkney I'm sorry. If I could go back I would, your home and son didn't deserve that. But don't forget this was all Kobas doing" Steele pleaded to the she wolf holding his head down, his ears back, and his tail tucked. " do what you think is right."
Orkney had not cared for what he said. She snarled at him, "It does not matter if you apologize to me. You have done wrong when I nor my pack has EVER done anything to hurt you or that pack. Your time here is done." She knew he was speaking the truth as she had come to the conclusion before any deaths had happened. She ran towards the male jumping on him and within seconds his neck was ripped apart as Orkney stood over him, hot tears trailing down her face as the first wolf to come to her mind was her innocent pup. She had never been killed until now but she held no remorse or care for any wolf outside, she loved her pack deeply but her pups were the priority to her.
She stared at him longer before speaking as if he could hear her, "You have killed an innocent pup but I gave you mercy and gave you a quick death." Then there was a twig snap but she didn't turn her head, she knew that a war had begun and she knew her pack was not going to back down from this. So she spoke again to the wolf standing near, "Tell your alpha that this war will only end in heartbreak and bloodshed. This wolf has killed one of my pups and he paid the price. Before he went he told me that this is all behind that wolf Koba. Bring me that wolf and it will end, my pack may be quite small but we are not weak." She left after saying that leaving the both the wolves there and ran to where her pups were, falling asleep in front of them.
"Hey Arctic, did you hear about Steele?" Albercuke asked, walking out of the rain into the cave that served as shelter for the royal family. He shook his fur and layed down next to his brother.
"Yes I did. Such a shame too, he was a good father and an exceptional hunter, but to say he didn't have it coming would be a blatant lie." Arctic said looking at the stary, rainy night. He looked over to his friend and saw the worry on his face. He moved his tail to touch his to give him comfort.
"Do you have any clue on who Koba might be? Look, my bet is on Lust or Plasma. Those wolves have always been troubled." Albercuke said, looking at the moon. His eyes heavy at the losses this war had caused " I feel bad for her she lost one of her pups to that monster, he's the only reason this war has started" Albercuke said in a tone between a whimper and snarl.
"I know." Arctic spoke gently "I have sent a group to attack The Sunset Claws, I hate to do it but the wolves feel like there was a murder and the only rebuttal can be that of claw and fang, I don't need what happened to happen again." Arctic spoke his calm tone fading and all he could hear was the drip, drip, drip of the rain.
"It may be for the best but I have kids that need their dad, your eldest daughter is in that pack, your mate is pregnant again!" Albercuke yelled before getting up and started to walk away. " Look, all I'm saying is keep me out of this. I've fought my own kind for long enough I'll never forget our old pack." He finished and pranced through the mud and rain to get to his den.
Arctic sat there and thought, before returning to Blue Eyes and he sniffed her and she awoke. He licked her nose and they touched foreheads before drifting to sleep together

Orkney was active around her pack, ensuring every wolf had a place to stay and were kept fed. They did not have any deaths but there were injuries to many of her pack as they kept getting attacked by their enemy. Her three remaining pups were assigned to the three pupsitters they have. When she had returned to the pack, every wolf mourned the loss of a pup regardless of what wolf had given birth or who the father was.
Due to the death, Orkney became overprotective of the youth of the pack making sure they were always in constant supervision. It was one night that it was deadly silent when a howl of pain came from one of the members of the pack. Orkney was the first up and running and that's when she saw intruders, she growled at them getting low ready to use the environment around them. Blood Face was taking Mizette to the herbalist as she was injured badly and that only made Orkney angrier. "I suggest you go or this won't end well." The wolves did not back down and came rushing but Astro and Lorelai had tackled a two of the wolves and Orkney had aim to kill the last one but she had her side scratched deeply by the wolf and after awhile, the wolf fell but Orkney did not get the finishing blow.
"Go back to your pack." The wolves became angry at that and tried to fight back but they were weak from the constant fighting so when they moved back, the wolves left. Orkney did not want bloodshed but she did want the war to end, Blood Face came up to her. "I wish to go visit them. I am not an outsider and I know who Koba is." Orkney stared at her before nodding, "Go and tell them but return in one piece, you know pups are not allowed outside of the pack anymore." A few days later Blood Face was at the entrance of the Opossum Pack but the air was different, hostile.

Romantic looked at Snowy, her body bandaged, roots of the herbalist den felt constricting because of theΒ  many wolves that had been injured but out of all Snowy was injured most severely. The bleakness was only increased by Albercuke laying next to her, a father and his adopted daughter, a beautifulΒ  sight.
" Wasp, check on Canes ear to make sure it's not getting infected." Romantic spoke softly to the herbalist apprentice he would have called Azure but he was part of the battle party that was sent to destroy The Sunset Claws herbalism den. Then after picking up a bundle of charcoal and dandelions he saw Arctic come to him followed by Blood Face.
"Where is California Love?" Arctic questioned Romantic, a burning fire in his eyes. He didn't need an answer because he saw Cali playing with Brass who had been there because of fleas and wasn't doing well since her father died.
"California love!" Arctic snarled his fur sticking up right "did you kill Sephtis and burn the camp of The Sunset Claws? Are you Koba?" He demanded approaching, asΒ  Koba nudged the pups away that he had cared for. He sighed before letting out a reply.
"No. They attacked me that night, unless you're implying I did this to myself." Koba pointed to the giant scar that adorned his face. " or this." he pointed to his ripped ear before speaking again "All she has told you are serpent lies, did you stop and wonder why that monster would send your own daughter to speak? No. You did not."
Blood Face knew that she would not be accepted lightly but she stepped onto their pack territory. She was not hostile to any wolf even if they were hostile to her, she tried her best to avoid them but of course there were some that were persistent and that's when she arrived at the herbalism den. She saw the wolves that came to her pack and she heard Cali Love or now Koba speaking with her father. She tried to maintain a calm body language but she was failing to do so but she did not attack him nor her father.
"What Koba is telling you are lies. That night he came and spoke to me unannounced on our lands and within minutes our camp was surrounded by that horrid fire. I came here to speak on the behalf of my siblings, that you abandoned, and your grandpups who have not seen a regular day in their life." Blood Face growled slowly, "I am a guard of The Sunset Claws, I work closely with Orkney and know her personally. She nor any one of the pack has left our current camp since it has started and she even put more rules out to protect all of us. She has never intentionally killed any of your wolves as you can see. She could be called cold to most but she treats us all well in our own way. I said what all I had to do, whether you believe me or not, whether you want this war to continue is all up to you." Blood Face ran out of the pack heading back to her own home without talking to any of them. She felt no need to know their response nor answer their questions.
War. Famine. Fear. The things The Opossum Pack has struggled with since the war started. Since Golden Retriever died of blood loss and infection Brass has been left an orphan, and Nickel plagued with a guilt that she may have been able to prevent this but in reality, no Koba would have skinned her alive she would be another skull on the shelf of this war. Her father was what she was the most afraid of, would she be kicked out? Killed? Scarred? At least her best friend Newt understood her and isn't trying to be her mate like Koba. She is scared of that wolf, his scars he inflicted on himself is enough of a put off.
Koba, the ringleader of this mess, stood in the Pupsitter den smirking before getting up to go to the herbalist den. The pain he caused was justified in his mind because he was closer than ever to leading the Opossum pack, in his mind, to victory. He glimpsed Arctic who was skinny, his ribs shone, he knew the time to kill Arctic was almost there, and he was ecstatic. He then saw Nickel talking to Newt and he knew that it was romantic, that angered him but he accepted it but hated it.
Albercuke had been to multiple Battles including the Battle of Diamond Den where Golden Retriever died. In turn that meant his bond with his wife and kids increased and he continued to visit Snowy as she lay in the Herbalist den because of life threatening injuries. He despises the war but can't refuse to fight. His own daughter had been injured to the point of almost death and he made a promise to Arctic long ago to always have his back.
" Arctic quick come!" Koba yelled to the sleeping leader. " Blue Eyes has been hurt! Badly I ran back for you!" By the time he finished speaking, Arctic had gotten up and started to run to Koba and Koba turned toward the forest, and more importantly the Raccoon Cavern.
The two had made their way into the forest and Koba smelled the Pine sap and prey that inhabited this Forest of Lies. He made it to a large boulder and the edge of the ledge of the cavern when he heard the Arctic behind him with a crunch of the autumn leaves under his feet.
He backed up and looked at the Arctic ; his plan had worked here; he would kill the leader of The Opossum Pack and take his place. He slouched down to a crawl and he got ready he steadied his body and pounced. He was on top of the Arctic as he snarled and tried to push Koba off and did, but then he felt the blood coming from his underside. He had been injured but didn't care until he heard a sound coming from behind him. He watched as a golden wolf ran past him toward Koba.
"You are Koba! How you tricked us all." Orkney spoke and snarled and spat at Koba . As she paced around him and saw Albercuke run up.
" I'll crush you like I did Saphis. And you I'll crush that daughter of yours like I did Your sons." He growled at Orkney and Albercuke, glancing between them looking and at the Arctic who stood next to Orkney.

"Thank you Brother" was all Albercuke muttered at Arctic before leaping toward Koba, he felt each step lighter and lighter as he headed toward the evil wolf that he had fostered many moons ago. Koba had stood upright trying to brace himself for impact but he couldn't. Albercuke grasped Kobas neck and pulled him into the cavern and his mind went blank as he felt himself and Koba fall but unlike Koba who was screeching for help he had peace once more.
Arctic stood there as he heard the sickening thud of his brother hitting the ground, and then he paused tears to his eyes. His brother sacrificed himself for his mate, his pups, and his pack: a poetic ending for a poetic wolf. The birds chirping came to an end and he felt rain, the first time since their argument. He then heard his pack howling and coming to him.
"Go now. Please. I'm sorry for this." Arctic spoke oddly stoically, he stood drenched in rain and Orkney knew right now he was no leader, just a scared wolf who lost his best friend.
Orkney may have not known Arctic's brother but she knew that he was a great wolf and had done something for them all. He ended the war but the way Arctic spoke had hit a nerve with her. She knew she would have to leave as his pack came approaching but she rubbed up against him to offer him little comfort. "This was not your doing. We all played a part but it has ended, he did something great. His role will not go unnoticed, he's a hero. I have left food for your pack, take it or not it does not matter." She turned away and started running as the air seemed to have cleared of any lurking evil as she made her way to her own pack, her heart still heavy as she thought about the losses that had happened.
From that point on as both packs started to rebuild, whenever Orkney had anything to spare she would offer it up to them personally. Some of the wolves were still quite on edge whenever she came and went but she meant them no harm and if they had come to her, they would receive a welcome to her pack and the way of life.
