Criticism of the game

As much as I've enjoyed the game so far, recently I heard from some other players in discord that when your current leader dies, or retires, your entire progress will be set to undiscovered again.

All I ask is, why? Why would we have our entire progress wiped out every time we get a new leader? It seems unfair, and tiring.

My main guess is that it's supposed to make sure the scout role never becomes useless. I'm a newbie still building up my pack and trying to get enough money to get more territory space by selling food, so outside of the tutorial phase, I haven't had a scout since, so I have no idea whether re-scouting areas is worth it if we could keep our progress with future pack leaders.

It's pretty usual that game progress resets to a point when you replace your main character? in this case it's your lead wolf

And it is worth noting that if you move to a not-starter biome, that will remain your one discovered biome.

@buns re-scouting gives you amusement items, exp, and random stats for the scout

Also, it is assumed that after your lead dies and you select a new one, your scouts are already ageing as well. And you will most likely have higher statted wolves (than what your old scouts were at lvl 1) waiting to be the new scouts as those will be available. And their higher stats let you discover the biomes faster too.

So it is not really as big of a problem as ppl make it to be.

And you can always ditch (sell) one of your scouts and start training a new one when your lead is getting like 5-6. This way you have at least 1 young, pretty good scout. Maybe even switch your scout out when you are finished scouting the entire map or something or when they are level 20. I have about 1 in game year done now, and I have two pretty good scouts. 1-2 ingame years should be enough to get a decent scout if you prepare for your leads death

I partially agree. While I think that losing some progress when your leader is reset makes sense, I don't see how loosing all of it makes sense. I think a decent fix would be to only lose some progress. Maybe the territory that's furthest away from your home territory gets greyed out because there hasn't been consistent scouting there? Or maybe all of them drop down to 50% on the scouting bar? There are definitely ways to make it more logical without also making Scouts useless.
