Oh man, it's wild to see that other folks know about Watership Down. Easily one of my favorite books and the animated film is a lot of fun (the Netflix series was disappointing though).

While I don't read nearly as much today as I did when I was younger, I had a few stables that I read all the time that I could easily recommend to someone of any age.

The Redwall series, a collection of stories about anthropomorphic woodland animals in a more fantastical mediaeval setting.

Dinotopia, a series of books about an island where people and dinosaurs live together. Dinosaurs are sentient creatures and live as equals with humans.

Animorphs, a fairly long series but a fun one about teens fighting a war against invading aliens. Also the teenagers can change into animals thanks to the help of alien tech.

Also, for anyone interested in an animal book that is not aimed t younger audiences, Togetherness is our Home is a good read. It's about the life of an orca and it's quite good.

I read mostly westerns and the occasional horror book. I have many favorite western authors but my favorite horror author is Stephen King.

The Shining, Pet Semetery, Cujo and IT are my favorites by Stephen King! Their film versions are great as well but I don't like the 80s (90s?) IT or the new Pet Sem one. Fred Gwynne, Dale Midkiff... the whole 1989 cast just cannot be replaced. The new actors didn't do it justice at all.

As for westerns... I read very old ones which range from 1920s-1980s. You can imagine the range of authors there so I won't even delve into that. I don't particularly like Louis L'Amour though. Cormac McCarthy is one of the "newer" authors I like. No Country For Old Men and All The Pretty Horses are great, I reaaally like no country and the movie. Epic.

I don't read much fantasy... I do like the LOTR/Tolkien stuff though. I love the films.

Ooh! Some interesting new suggestions To add to my 'future reads' list!

Also Funny enough, I think I'm one of the very few people who preferred the Netflix version of watership down over the animated movie. Granted there's lots of stuff that fell flat, but its mostly because it's a much longer run time with more opportunities to include more parts from the book and flesh out characters better.

Also a big Stephen king fan! I have tons of his books on my reading list! I was fairly surprised to see the sheer amount of horror movies based on his books and I had no idea until I started reading his work!

I didn't know watership down was based off a book, and I quite liked the Netflix show, so your not alone!

At least most of the films taking inspiration from his books have been good. I believe they just released another one, the boogeyman, haven't watched it though.

Gonna be a bit of an outsider here on this thread but I read mostly nonfiction and classics, challenging stuff that can sometimes take months to read & process. I do like to dabble in the odd fiction tale. I love a good adventure with believable supernatural elements and rich world-building, but I wouldn't normally reach for a fantasy book unless it was something from the ancient world.

My favourite book of all time is probably Interview With The Vampire by Anne Rice, the first book specifically, it's very dear to my heart. I also love Mansfield Park by Jane Austen, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte and Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk is also an awesome book (the film is a pretty loyal adaptation too, apart from the ending). From fantasy I love A Song of Ice & Fire series by George R.R. Martin. I'm currently rereading the whole thing because I love it so much.

As for nonfiction, I mostly read obscure spiritual topics, philosophy and history. Right now I'm reading The Gnostic Religion: The Message of the Alien God and the Beginnings of Christianity by Hans Jonas and I've been reading it since May as it's pretty challenging, but absolutely fascinating and scratches an itch I have for esoteric knowledge

If anyone's interested feel free to follow me on Goodreads, I will follow back :)

I love a good romance/YA novel, some of my favorite books that I would recommend are;
-The Song of Achilles which is a romance novel about Achilles and Patroclus and it's really sweet and sad, definitely was one of the few books that made me almost cry
-Be More Chill is a pretty interesting sci fi novel where the main character's one sided romantic attraction to another character kinda drives the story and causes him to do all these things and end up hurting people in the process
-The Fault in Our Stars is a romance novel about these two characters who have cancer and they're just really adorable and it's just so good idk how to explain the plot without spoiling everything but it's really good it almost made me cry
-Only Love Can Hurt Like This is the book that I'm currently reading and I think is really good so far, it's about this girl who got a divorce because her husband fell in love with another girl who moves into the small town with her dad, stepmom, and half sister and she meets this guy who's wife died and he's not over her deathΒ
I'm about halfway through it atm so idk if it ends happily, I really shouldn't be getting so invested in the romance and cheering for it when the title is only love can hurt like this, lmao
