A thread to share my short stories, blurbs and poetry.
I love words and I love colors. Putting the two together is my happy place.

Phoenix Rising

Song of the Phoenix

do you see the fire glowing
i am right behind
do you feel the heat, its burning
it is you that I will find
silently i watch and wait
hidden in the scorching glare
now i am keeper of your fate
and you will never know i'm there
do you feel the warmth of ashes falling
or is that my breath upon your neck
you will hear the howl i'm calling
just before your death

Phoenix beginning.
The land alight with a yellow glow. The smell of destruction loomed closer. "We must get to safety and we must go now" the wise lead said softly, with concern in his voice. The pack had already waited much longer than it should. Lady Wolf was struggling with her labor and it was a bad time to move. But move they had to. The ember storm was coming.

As the pack carefully made it's way trough the falling ashes the creaking groan of falling tree stopped them in their tracks. Behind them the fire sprang closer. Birds and critters darted from the brush with no fear of the wolves but from the hot enemy closing in.

Lady wolf growled in pain and heaved, her contractions strong. It was time. Lead wolf shoo'd the pack to continue on their way to safety. "Follow the trail to the river, and head toward the morning sun"' he said as he softly nuzzled each of his family as they passed toward the trail.

The thickening smoke began to burn his throat. It felt heavy, like breathing underwater. Pack leader turned his attention to Lady wolf. Two new pups lay near her, cold and unmoving. He rushed to her and pressed his nose into her cheek with no response. "My precious" he murmured into the silky soft fluff of her ear. He circled her and checked on the pups. Licking and gently poking them. A dark pup and a red pup. "Come on, breathe" he pleaded as he massaged the little pups harder.

Ash began raining down, embers burning his fur. The bushes all about him began to wither. Pack leader's eyes darted the area looking for his best route of escape. There was an opening to the north. Just a jump or two through the heat and he could make it. The sounds of snapping tree limbs and the growling hum of the hot red beast was deafening. And overtop of all the noise he heard it. The soft muffled whimper of a puppy. Lead wolf stopped and quickly turned around.

The little red pup grunted a cough and wiggled toward her mothers body. Pack leader started digging and digging. He felt like his lungs were going to explode. Panting he grabbed the pup and placed her into the hole and curled up above her.

The the fires spread across the ground and was gone leaving a trail of blackened rubble in its wake.

It would be 2 long days before little red pup was found. And luckily she was found by a caring young wolf mother also separated from her pack. Young mother seen the sacrifice. She could see the strength the pup held on to survive.

Young mother whispered "I shall call you Phoenix and you will rise from the ashes and survive."

Suncatcher

main hunt team chaserimage-2021-11-12-171400

Suncatchers song

golden rays of summer sun
dance across the forest floor
i prance so fast they cant out run
catching sun beams is what im built for
quick jump left, side step right
though foliage and twisted bow
i race each shinning streak of light
and sing my chasers howl
yip yip yip awhoooay
another golden ray is mine
i will seize the sun today
so goddess moon can shine

Yellow pup as she was called bounced with excitement. From day one she was the faster then all the other pups, and many of the elders too. Today the mentor would assign all the pups in her rank their adult assignments to start training. Today she would earn her name.

Today was a day of fun, work and pride. There were hidden rabbit paws, sticks to chew and races to run. And running made yellow pup happy. Her race was next.  As mentor wolf got the racers into position she couldn't help but to notice the grin on yellow pups face.

Ready? Set. GO! And they were off with their tails in the wind. The trail was dusted with warm evening sun. As the racers ran down the path the rays of sun glimmered off yellow pups fur. Yellow pup would jump and bite at each ray as she soared down the path. Farther and farther ahead of the racers she got. More and more rays of sun she caught. Each bite of golden warmth fueled her to run faster.

Nearing the end of the path the daylight began to fade. The streaks of light flickered as the sun began its decent behind the trees. With a huff, yellow pup began to fear that without the rays of sun she might lose the race. She put her nose down and carried on. Tiring quickly, she could hear the panting of the other racers getting near. Around the last bend she went, the racers closing quickly. Just ahead she could see the finish log and one last ray of sunset shimmering above it. The last flickering ray of light was hers.

Yellow pup set her eyes on the goal. The soft glow shining in the reflection of her eye looked like a spark of fire. Her legs burned and her chest heaved as she gathered up the last bit of energy. Like a bolt of lightning she dashed down the lane and sprang through the air with her mouth wide open to catch the streak of sun. At that moment the sun took its final dip under the edge of the landscape and was gone.

"I did it, I caught the sun!" Yellow pup howled with glee. And so it was to be. Suncatcher was placed in the chasers role. And every day she runs, catching the rays of sun. For without her the nighttime would never come.

Dust Storm

main hunt team chaser

Dust Storm

give me dust, give me dirt, mud and snow, it wont hurt
give me sand, give me grass, rain and sleet, i still outlast
on the go, never slow, im a chaser don't ya know
i am fast, i've got speed, i am just the girl you need
give me starlight, give me sunshine, when i run i know its my time
through the bush, and over mountains, crossing rivers, jumping fountains
give me freedom, give me flight, oh the chase is on tonight
give me honor, give me trust, i am the storm within the dust

Synergy

Pack elder pup trainer

previous name = Hope Springs Eternal

The Mentors Chant
With age comes wisdom or so I've been told
No matter how wise I get, I'm still feeling old
Smart enough to know my youth has passed
Giving me knowledge for the youth of the pack
I adore the new blood with their curious eyes
Watching and learning as the days all fly by
Growing and hunting the pups they grow quick
And it all starts from teaching them to fetch a stick
We howl at the moon for fun and for zest
We howl for the new mom as she lays in her nest
We study and practice with the hunters each day
We follow the scouts that show us the way
Some days are easy with blue skies and sun
Sometimes the only way to stay warm is to run
Each day I am surrounded by precious new pups
Wanting to learn from us aging grown ups
Each little nose I lovingly boop
Will soon be a working member of our growing troop
Respect the dear elders our work can be tough
Teaching pups manners can be very rough
Remember my lessons as my time here ends soon
And think of me always when you howl at the moon

Bone Crusher

Main hunt team finisher (now mentor)

I Smash

No one says I'm pretty, no one says I'm smart,
But what I lack in beauty, I make up with strong heart,
My power is my duty to help the pack survive
Crushing things with my steel jaws helps keep us all alive
No one calls me handsome, never was it said
But maybe that is because, everything I catch is dead
I lockdown with such force, I rarely lose my pray
I bring down the biggest hunts easily, so we can eat each day
No one calls me baby, no one says that I'm a hunk
But I don't need those silly words, all I need is the next hunt

Moonlit Flutter

Scout & Breeding Male / Stud

Lunar Dream

into the luminous moon I go, i glow
i flutter high, i flutter low
dip and dive into the night
i prance and dance under moonlight
celestial stars so divine, they shine
as i serenade the dark skyline
ethereal dust and magic pixie wings
empowered voyage to new lands I sing
under the moon i howl, i growl
by luminescent light i prowl
through the moonlit lands i glide, with guide
goddess moon shimmering beside
the moon essence gentle and serene
this is where i belong, in lunar dream

Thunder Storm

(Nanna)
mentor (chased at 7.2yrs of age)

Nanna's Lullaby

There there little one, don't give in to fear
Nanna wolf will keep you safe, Nanna wolf is here
The wind is just a fleeting moment, to cleanse the lands we walk
The rain brings life to all the forests where our hunters stalk
Calm down my dearest little pups, its just a little storm
Come and cuddle nanna wolf, I will keep you warm
The thunder trumpets may startle you, but it's just a sound
The lightning can be frightening, when it strikes upon the ground
Respect the Gaia mother, the plants need rain to thrive
And winds that blow the pollen seeds, brings the lands alive
Sniff the rain, enjoy the gift, do not give in to fright
Nanna's always watching over, morning noon and night

Born in a storm, the thunder was her friend. Her first breaths of life smelled of rain and wet ground. The lightning put fear in the rest of the pack but it called to her. She became the Storm. As her years went by Storm Cloud became mentor to the new pack pups. Protectively teaching them the ways of the world.

Sand Dune

First scout (retired)

Desert Wonderer

all night all day, i find my way
through tundra , swamp and wooded glen
but the desert is my playground
the bedrock it is my friend
burning paws and scorching lands
the sun shining on my back
i scout to find the sands of time
and trinkets for my pack
barren ground for miles around
so much new for me to see
i go wherever the dust storm leads
and only stop to howl with glee
all day all night, under moonlight
through wind, storm and snowy days
but my love is for the desert
and the suns warm golden rays

Embraced

do not fear my lovely
you are not alone
we have found each other
and i will take you home
relax and let me lead you
beyond the other side
as i embrace your essence
and take your soul in mine
i promise you no pain
just give in and float away
your life has meaning to my pack
so we may eat another day
be free of all your worries now
its time for you to slumber
we will honor you each day we live
for saving us from hunger
