Development Update #11

Posted 2021-07-24 09:05:05 (edited)
I agree with the coding, even in forum posts. I went to edit one of mine and it's just one big paragraph of HTML; I can barely make out any real text. It was so much easier to edit before this update. I know nothing about coding and I'm not going to learn just for the sake of editing posts; this is a wolf game, not school. We should at least have the option to go back to the way it was.

Example:

Like someone already mentioned, I play this game to relax and have fun, not to learn a whole different set of skills like coding.

The coding is really difficult to figure out now! I can no longer make tables and adjust the size of images easily. I'm scared to go in and edit my den/profile page and any forum posts of mine because I don't understand the coding at all. I feel really limited now.

The adolescent update is very cool though, I'm excited for that!

In addition to everything else that has been said about the difficulty of the forced HTML in den, profile, and forum posts, I mostly play this game on my phone.

It is VERY annoying trying to code on a phone. I don't know what others' phones are like, but I have to toggle between three different keyboard screens to access all the necessary symbols for basic HTML annotation.

Leaving aside the annoyance and basic inconvenience of forced coding if you don't know how or don't like to, this change means voice-to-text can't be used easily anymore, meaning THE GAME IS LESS ACCESSIBLE FOR DISABLED PLAYERS than it used to be.

Please change it back to the rich text editor as default. Certainly preserve the HTML option for those who want it, but please don't limit what others can do.

I love everything especially the adolescent update! Which came just in time as one of my adols just aged up recently :D It is an incredibly helpful and fun addition.

However, despite the fact I am use to HTML, it is a change I find very odd?

I feel like the other option should've been toggable. A toggable WYSIWYG on and off was actually what helped me learn HTML and get comfortable with it because it allowed me to swap between the two and fix things directly in code while also being able to add text and stuff casually without interference. By all means the HTML feature is very neat, but the way it was put in I can't get with.

If anybody is overwhelmed and needs help with editing their coding please let me know! I can do basic stuff like helping if things aren't working, remove coding you dont want, and edit/add text! Just PM me.

It's the same on my phone. It's not too bad for me because I have desktop/laptop access, but for primarily mobile users it's going to be a huge inconvenience.

The adolescent update is great.

I feel like one thing contributing to the coding update outrage is that previously rich-text has been converted to code. So people are editing their forum posts and coming across a wall of text. If you copy what was previously on your post - not through the edit screen - and then go in and paste it it should remove a lot of the gross code while keeping the format mostly the same

I don’t know how to do more complicated stuff, but the new system isn’t unusable once you get past that hump if you only want line breaks (preserved on forum posts but not on the den?) and simple italics/bold/strikeout etc.

Speech-to-text should still work as well as it did before so long as you’re working on a new post and not editing an old one. It wasn’t very compatible with formatting before, but it should be no worse now.

I know I already said this but I've been looking at the code even more and talking to friends.

The new coding system is TERRIBLE. I love this game but Holy moly. For wolvden it is just a huge no and I don't even wanna TOUCH my css for my dens. Absolutely not.

I love the game, you guys are doing great but that is just not it. I know some people may like it but please give us a toggle button to change it back.

i love the new apprenticeship update! it makes training my pupsitters so much easier for the future generation and i love that! i’m enjoying having my apprentices tag along on hunting parties too.

however, with the html update… i’m a primarily mobile user. the new update is really overwhelming on phones, especially if you have a phone like mine, and it’s really hard to get it to focus on a tiny piece of text you want to continue writing within. and honestly i don’t even use my wolves bios for much more than lyrics and silly stuff, so i can imagine the people with longer bios are having even less of a fun time than i am!

it would be nice to toggle this feature on and off

Adolescent update is great, I'm happy there's a new way to train our wolves!

The HTML update though... I hate it. Sorry to be so blunt, but that's the truth. I love the game but without the WYSIWYG/HTML toggle I don't want to go anywhere near my wolves' bio (it's not much anyway, but I like to keep lvl up stats on some of them). And it makes it even harder to players with disabilities! Imagine sorting through a wall of code if you have some visual impairments or ADD/ADHD/problems with concentration.

I'm not a code-savvy person, I know the basics but I don't want to sort through the lines of code whenever I want to update my profile. Just... no. :(

@Muirgeilt:  I don't know what kind of voice-to-text you use, but mine (default Google/Android voice-to-text interface) does not recognize the verbal punctuation/symbol commands necessary for this enforced coding, meaning I can't code in voice-to-text.

Sure, I can create a wall of text with my voice-to-text abilities with this new change, but I can't even do a new line to indicate a paragraph change since I can't code with voice-to-text. In the rich text input option, I used to be able to use the "new line" command to indicate paragraph changes. Now I can't.

To put things in perspective, this whole post took me over 15 minutes to create in this new enforced coding situation since I had to do it by hand, rather than the few seconds it would have taken me in voice-to-text that I used to use.
