[READ-ONLY] The Sol Pack

Year Ten

The pack had gone through several years without new puppies, but this spring was once again welcomed by the sound of puppies. The pack was overjoyed with four healthy puppies by Solis and Chūnfēn, but especially Corvus who always worried about the succession of the pack as Solis was without any heir. Corvus, on behalf of all those who came before hew, blessed the litter with well wishes, and bestowed the royal name of Solaris to the new-born heir. With relief that the survival to the next generation is assured, Corvus joined her siblings at long last. Under the sun's warm rays, she could see and hear her siblings, young and rejuvenated, ushering her to join them on their next elk hunt.

The last litter of the Sol, Epimedium, Eremurus, Erica, Echinops, and Echium, filled the rolls left by their older siblings and became the lead hunters of the pack. However, Lìchūn, Chūnfēn, and Qīngmíng, with their outstanding pale coats, did not fare well in the lush rainforest. Under Chūnfēn's persistence, the pack started to move north towards colder climates.

They settled near a mountains range, neighboring a small pack of three brothers. After a few scuffles to determine territory boundaries, the pack came to learn that it was in fact not three brothers, but a pair of twin brothers and another. The three were pack mates who decided to leave their previous pack together, leaving their past behind them. The two packs coexisted, likely due to submissive attitudes the outsiders showed towards the Sol Pack (but these cunning males are most definitely not submissive in nature). After banishing the previous pack that occupied this land, the territory is sufficiently large to feed the family and no new expansions were planned.

Solis, perhaps feeling his time is also drawing near, have been teaching Solaris the ways of the alpha. It is a true privilege to be bestowed the name of the Sun at birth, but with it also comes with immense responsibilities. With much less time than he had, Solaris must be prepared when the time comes.

Chūnfēn seems to be watching the son and daughter at a distance. On occasions, her eyes seem to glisten. Or perhaps it was just the sun.

Year Eleven

This spring was a noisy one. With the abundance of food, Epimedium and Echium both delivered puppies to the pack. In addition, and to everyone's surprise, Solis and Chūnfēn had another litter of four. Solis, clearly happy that age did not slow him down one bit, and showered much more gentleness towards the newborns than his first litter of puppies. However, his time was still mostly spent with Solaris in her training to reign the lands. Every time Solis steps away from the puppies with Solaris, Chūnfēn's eyes turn stern. Solaris is sensitive to her mother's attitude towards her, and kept note of it. The rest of the pack seems unaware of the tension between the alphas and their puppies.

Solaris was born strong as a puppy, and despite just reaching adulthood, could breakeven with her father in scuffles. Solis felt Solaris was ready, and began delegating his tasks to her. When Solaris is busy making sure the pack is running smoothly, Solis stayed in the den spending the last remaining times he have with his second and last litter. He passed in the den with Chūnfēn and his puppies while Solaris were away from the den on patrol.

No better time, thought Chūnfēn. Stepping out of the den and with her sisters by her side, Chūnfēn broke the tragedy to the rest of the pack, followed by a shocking declaration that that, in his final moments, Solis has decided to name Mángzhòng the heir to the throne, assisted by Chūnfēn until adulthood.

The pack was very puzzled by this announcement. Solaris was bestowed her name by Corvus on behalf of all those before her time. She had shown brilliant leadership skills in her training with Solis. Although short, she has proven herself to the pack that she can lead. However, Solis have been spending almost all of his time with the new litter in recent months, and a change of heart is not impossible.

In all the chaos, Solaris returned. She stood, head-to-head against her mother. Without a word, the two leaped towards each other. At first they were evenly matched; Solaris was stronger, but Chūnfēn have experience. However, Solaris' physiques soon put her on top. At first sight of Chūnfēn showing signs of fatigue, Lìchūn and Qīngmíng joined in. Then, Frangipani, Forsythia, and Feverfew, Solari's littermates piled on top in assistance of Solaris. Soon the rest of the pack were all entangled in this battle. In all the chaos, no wolf noticed that Lìchūn slipped away from the battlefield. She transferred several puppies to their escape route, and waited.

Solaris emerged victorious against her mother, who snapped at her one last time before retreating with Qīngmíng. The pack watched as the two rushed away, before Echium yelped in desperation -- Chūnfēn's puppies were gone, but so was one of hers. It seems in their retreat, Lìchūn picked up one too many puppies. Solairs, and the lead hunters, immediately set out on a pursuit, with the remaining of the pack guarding their territory and watch over the remaining puppies. They chased after the three wolves north, but lost all senses of them in a land already filled with snow this early in the year. The three wolves were no longer the bone-thin youngsters that sought refuge that one early spring. They were strong and fierce, and cunning.

---

  • Solaris is the new alpha of the pack
  • Epimedium, Eremurus, Erica, Echinops, Echium, last litter of Sol, are the alpha hunting team
  • Frangipani, Forsythia, Feverfew, littermates of Solaris, formed the beta hunting team with Fuchsia, daughter of Columba
  • Firethorn, the only daughter of Epimedium that remained with the pack, is training to be finisher of the beta hunting team

  • Lìchūn, Chūnfēn, and Qīngmíng have formed a new pack with Chūnfēn as the pack leader; they are caring for all five puppies, including the one from Echium's litter. Qīngmíng seems to have also birthed a litter of her own.
