Most popular biomes

Do we know which biomes are the most popular for home bases? I'm curious where people end up and why?

I started in Deciduous Forest but moved to Mountain because I like the artwork better.

Started in the deciduous forest, liked it well enough. Then for lore reasons the pack has been moving to various biomes.

Riparian woodland: nice herb selection, easier to catch big fish and the fishing leaderboard's not too competitive (or wasn't, when I was there). Large prey is smaller (maximum of 20 uses to a carcass).

Coniferous forest: also good variety of herbs, fishing seems harder and definitely more competitive. Large prey can be bigger (bison [28 uses], moose [24 uses]). Raccoon wares has some really nice backgrounds and the hunting grounds art is beautiful.

Prairie: less herb variety but you can get winterfat, which my open wound-prone hunters are enjoying. Fishing is way harder to catch big fish but also way less competitive. Large prey is smaller on average but there's still bison, bless those beefy buffalos.

Overall coniferous forest has been my favorite so far, but they've all had their good points. Next stop will be the mountains, it'll be interesting to see if hunting is easier in a beginner biome since the changes.

Love hearing about those differences. I would love to hear about the others!

I started in the Deciduous Forest and then moved to the Coniferous Forest. It was partly for lore and also because my ultimate destination is the Taiga and I wanted to move gradually. The hunting in the DF became pretty easy once I had a higher-stat hunting party (500+ each) Once I moved to the CF, I noticed hunting was much harder. It has gotten easier now that my hunters are even higher-stat (600+). Chances went from 51% up to current 64% on large trails. I love having the bison and moose to feed my wolves every day now. I'll start breeding my next generation in a couple of weeks and when they come of age, I'll move to the Taiga and see what goes on there.

I moved all over to test out the differences in how much more experience you get in harder biomes vs. the fact that food is way more scarce. Glacier was way too hard so I went back and forth between Tundra and Tiaga for a bit to gather data and moved to Tundra after I did that, and have been there for over 2 months now. It is definitely a big trade off. I want to level up faster, but food is so much more difficult to get. My main stalker is one of only 6 in games with 300+ in both wisdom and smarts, and she sees only medium about 30% of the time - I have yet to see large trail up here. I like Tundra though -it's pretty. I am however going to move pack to an easier biome right before the next winter. I almost didn't make it through the last. Food was very hard to come by.

Very interesting. I think I'll stay in the mountains for awhile until my hunting parties are more efficient. Then I'll move up slowly rather than jumping to a hard biome. Has anyone tried out the rainforest?

I live in the Mountains :D I've only moved my pack temporarily to certain biomes but the one biome I thought about legit moving to was the Taiga.

I'm pretty sure Grasslands and Mountains are the most popular biomes.

@GoldnWlf - I moved to all biomes so Rainforest was one of them. Glacier and Rainforest are equally as difficult. I just preferred Tundra and Tiaga more than Swamp/Rainforest as far as the artwork and scenery in them.

I started in the Mountains largely because I grew up in the Pacific Northwest + named the pack Snow Hearts so fitting.

I moved last out of all my close friends and chose the Coniferous Forest.  This time I was motivated by research of Backgrounds, thanks to Grouse House and others.  Also, it's further north so this change works well.  Having friends' 400 stat offspring helped, and having another previously trained team.

As you can imagine, I have my sight set on the Tundra and eventually, the Glacier.  Next up is the Taiga though; like others here I am executing a gradual difficulty increase!  I suspect I will enjoy the Taiga a lot artwork-wise: the artists on Wolvden do not disappoint.  I even get to see screenshots of the Prairie from my friends on Discord sometimes.

Thank y'all for sharing!  It's a joy to read.  Also, while I enjoy fishing, it's good additional fun after the move. :D
