Name:  Archayus (Are-Kay-Us)
Gender:  Male
Position:  Dominant Male/Patriarch of Markwa.

He moved in silence, his molten gaze passing over the land in which he tread.  The pack had remained behind to care for the newest pups, so the king, the beast stepped out to do some scouting on his own.  Scents filtered through his nose, the appendage twitching with each unknown before filing it away for later use.  Paws came to a halt as the red dipped creature came to the river that separated the forest from the northernmost territories.  What lay beyond, he wasn't sure... yet he stood, letting the wind ruffle the fur that rested around his neck.

The urge to cross was tantalizing.. It pulled at his very soul and he felt himself take a step before coming to a halt and forcing himself to stop.  To leave the pack and travel into an unknown would endanger the pups back at the den.  Archayus was only out here to ensure that no one was going to waltz right into the heart of his homeland.  Ears twisted as the call of some creature sounded off to his left and he turned to look, focusing through the faint fog of early dawn.

Name: Merlin
Gender: Male
Position: Skald/Teacher/Storyteller beholden to Founder Sitka of the Edgewalker family

Merlin was, at the end of the day, a wanderer.  Now, this wasn't any indicator of sullenness.  Far from it, expansive--if distant--warmth leant itself to a drifter far more than any "lone wolf" disposition.  There were always families that needed an extra set of eyes, an extra voice to tell the harrowing and the beautiful across time and distance.

As long as the pups never played too rough, long as they kept well enough away from his left hind that had never stretched out proper since two winters before, and as long as there was a warm spot to rest in?  Merlin would readily embrace a family head-on--as he's done times before, as he's done now with the kindness of Sitka.

But all the same....it did pull at his heart to slip towards the borders of the territory.  To meander in that space between staying and leaving for new places, new families, new stories.  Where he was now, down from the mountains to walk along the shallower parts of the river when Merlin smelled a stranger before he saw him.

When he came into sight of Archayus, Merlin quickly shifted to give a wide berth, tail parallel  to the ground and flicking twice in acknowledgement instead of any more invasive greeting.
