The Lore

The Affinity Pack hails from a wolf kingdom in which every wolf is born with the ability to manipulate a certain element, which is known from the time of their birth simply by looking at their fur color. This is their Soul Element. A particularly talented wolf might even be able to learn to manipulate a second element which matches their personality, which is known as their Heart Element, while those with a Heart Element that matches their Soul Element are prodigies and exceptionally talented with that element. There are even some rare wolves that are born with the ability to master all four elements, but one of these has not been seen in generations.

While other elemental Packs may organize differently, the Affinity Pack has always chosen their leaders in a steady cycle through all the elements, beginning with Air, then Earth, then Fire, then Water, and then starting over at Air. When the current Leader is 7 years old, they must choose an heir of the next Affinity in the cycle and begin teaching them how to lead, as well as help them find a suitable new location for the Pack to live. Each biome also has a natural elemental Affinity, and the Pack will migrate to a biome that matches the Affinity of their new Leader shortly before their old Leader passes on.

It is law in the Pack that wolves that share the Affinity of the current Leader are part of the Royal class, while the wolves that share the Affinity of the next Element in the cycle are considered part of the Noble class, and all others are part of the Commoner class. Royals and Nobles will always get first dibs on the best prey and in times of famine may get to eat while the Commoners go without. The Pack’s Herbalist must be of the same Affinity as the Leader and is ranked just beneath them, and above every other wolf in the Pack. Females come into heat in the season of their Soul Element and cannot breed in any other season. If the Pack is overpopulated, the Royals and Nobles will have the right to breed over the Commoners.

Wolves in the Affinity Pack have first names and last names. First names are unique and depend on the Affinity of the wolf, while last names consist of two words put together, often having something to do with the wolf’s Affinity but not always, depending on their parents. Wolves take on one part of their father’s last name and one part of their mother’s last name, unless one parent is unknown, in which case they take the full last name of the known parent (generally the mother). Orphans/wolves that were born outside the Pack may choose to take on the last name of a parental figure in the Pack or choose their own.

Each element also has a patron Deity, said to be the very first wolves with total mastery over their respective elements. These Deities could appear as males or females as they pleased, and were often neither, or both. There are tales of the Deities being reborn into the Pack, though no wolf alive today could say whether these tales are true or just legend. Tales of the Deities are passed on through the generations from pupsitters to pups, and one of the pupsitters' most important duties (other than keeping their charges safe, of course) is to pass on the Pack's history, culture, and beliefs to the next generation. Bears, as the first healers, are sacred and respected animals in the Affinity Pack. They are not to be attacked unless in self defense.

Naming Conventions - Water Affinity wolves tend to have long, flowing names, and generally have at least two pairs of double letters somewhere in their name, with W, L, S, N, M, and Y being common.

Year 1

Spring 1

-Tharasha, Sharithi, Zavex, and Teelinnorri flee their former home to escape a plague. The four wolves are tasked with rebuilding their once mighty Pack. Tharasha takes up the mantle of Leader as was their former Leader's dying wish. Sharithi continues her training as a Herbalist. Zavex does his best to hunt for the small Pack. Teelinnorri scouts out their new territory for dangers and resources.

-Hearing of their ally Pack's tragedy, the scout Neffressenn leaves her native Pack and leads two other volunteers, the hunters Chathisha and Xevizi, to join what is left of the Affinity Pack in order to help them rebuild.

-Due to their small numbers, Tharasha decides that some of the Pack traditions are too hindering for them to follow as they rebuild. Though these traditions will still be taught to any new pups, they may not be followed during her lifetime as Leader.

-Sharithi is the first wolf in Affinity Pack memory to break tradition and breed outside of her natural season with a wolf not of her Affinity, in order to help the Pack by bringing new members into the world. She and Zavex have a litter of two pups, a female Earth pup named Dakra and a male Air pup named Chaharl. They are given the surname Brightwind.

-Before the season ends, three more new members join the Pack: Pridi, Shorosha, and Thashelos.

Summer 1

-Xevizi and Zavex welcome a litter of three Fire pups into the Pack, one male and two females. They are given the surname Flamesong. It is arranged that one of them will be sent to the Kaleidoscope Clan in exchange for one of their pups, to help build a new alliance and bring fresh bloodlines into the Pack.

-Before season's end, Vexoza joins the Pack and Zavex and Xevizi's young daughter is taken into the care of the Kaleidoscope Clan.

Autumn 1

-Bidi and Zavex welcome a litter of four pups into the Pack, two Fire males, one Earth male, and one Earth female. They are given the surname Brightsand.

-Pridi and Zavex welcome a litter of four pups into the Pack, one Earth male, one Fire male, and two Fire females. They are given the surname Brightstone. Two pups are born Cursed and are immediately left for the wilds to reclaim.

-Tragedy strikes and one of Bidi's sons wanders off only to be found trampled to death, covered in the scent of bull moose.

Winter 1

-Shorosha and Zavex welcome a litter of five pups into the Pack, one Earth female, two Earth males, and two Air females. They are given the surname Blackflame.

-Chathisha and Zavex welcome a litter of five pups into the Pack, one Air male, two Air females, one Fire female, and one Earth male. They are given the surname Brightwing.

-Tharasha and Zavex welcome a litter of three pups into the Pack, one Fire female, one Air female, and one Air male. They are given the surname Darkflame.

-Chaharl Brightwind leaves the Pack to strike out on his own.

Year 2

Spring 2

-Teelinnorri welcomes a litter of five Water pups into the Pack, two males and three females. They are given the surname Moonheart.

-Neffressenn welcomes a litter of three Water pups into the Pack, all females. They are given the surname Frostpath.

Summer 2

-Xevizi and Zavex welcome a litter of four Fire pups into the Pack, two males and two females. They are given the surname Flamesong.

-Zavex retires as the Pack's breeding male. Since having their first litter, Xevizi and Zavex have grown much closer and fallen in love, and knowing that Xevizi is aging and might not have much time left, Zavex has decided to devote himself to spending time with her and their pups.

-Qijozax, the son of Xevizi and Zavex, becomes the Pack's breeding male.

-Jaquavia Ashfall joins the Pack. She and Qijozax welcome a litter of four Fire pups into the Pack, three females and one male. They are given the surname Flamefall.

Autumn 2

-Pridi welcomes a litter of four pups into the Pack, two Earth females, one Fire female, and one Earth male. They are given the surname Sandstone.

-Bidi and Qijozax welcome a litter of three pups into the Pack, one Earth female and two Fire males. They are given the surname Softsong.

Winter 2

-Chathisha and Qijozax welcome a litter of four pups into the Pack, two Air females, one Air male, and one Earth male. They are given the surname Flamewing.

-Shorosha welcomes a litter of four Air pups into the Pack, two males and two females. They are given the surname Blackgale.

Year 3

Spring 3

-Mawaallarra and Qijozax welcome a litter of four pups into the Pack, one Fire male, one Earth male, one Water male, and one air female. They are given the surname Moonsong.

-Leellesanni and Qijozax welcome a litter of three pups into the Pack, two Fire females and one Earth male. They are given the surname Frostsong.

Summer 3

-Jaquavia and Qijozax welcome a litter of four Fire pups into the Pack, two males and two females. They are given the surname Flamefall.

-Jovizaxa and Qijozax welcome a litter of three Fire pups into the Pack, two males and one female. They are given the surname Wildsong.

Quivijia and Qijozax welcome a litter of four Fire pups into the Pack, two males and two females. They are given the surname Firesong.

Autumn 3

-Bidi and Qijozax welcome a litter of three pups into the Pack, one Earth male, one Fire male, and one Fire female. They are given the surname Softsong.

-Pridi welcomes a litter of five female Earth pups into the Pack. They are given the surname Sandstone.

Winter 3

-Shorosha welcomes a litter of five Air pups into the Pack, two males and three females. They are given the surname Blackgale.

-Chathisha welcomes a litter of three female Air pups into the Pack. They are given the surname Fleetwing.

-Xevizi Embersong passes peacefully, surrounded by her mate Zavex and their pups.

-One of Shorosha's sons manages to wander away from the Pack and is later found dead on a river bank. It appears that he drowned. The whole Pack mourns the loss.

Year 4

Spring 4

-Neffressenn welcome a litter of four Water pups into the Pack, three females and one male. They are given the surname Frostpath.

-Mawaallarra welcomes a litter of two Water female pups into the Pack. They are given the surname Moonheart.

Summer 4

-Jaquavia and Qijozax welcome a litter of five Fire pups into the Pack, one female and four males. They are given the surname Flamefall. Two of her sons are cursed and by Pack law must be left to be reclaimed by the wilds so as not to bring misfortune down on the Pack. However, Jaquavia was not raised with these beliefs and refuses to leave her pups to die. Instead, she agrees to leave her three normal pups safely with the Pack and leave with her cursed sons as soon as her pups are weaned. The entire Pack is sad to see her go and is sure her cursed sons will bring about her death, but she will not be dissuaded.

-Quazeva and Qijozax welcome a litter of three Fire pups into the Pack, two males and one female. They are given the surname Arrowsong.

-Voxajia and Qijozax welcome a litter of three Fire pups into the Pack, two females and one male. They are given the surname Stonesong.

Autumn 4

-Pridi welcomes a litter of five pups into the Pack, one Earth male, three Earth females, and one Air female. They are given the surname Sandstone.

-Bidi welcomes a litter of four Earth pups into the pack, two males and two females. They are given the surname Softsand.

Winter 4

-Teelinnorri Murkheart passes peacefully in her sleep. The Pack honors her life.

-Neffressenn welcomes a litter of four pups into the Pack, one Air female, one Fire female, and two Water males. They are given the surname Frostpath.

-Zavexivi welcomes a litter of three Fire pups into the Pack, one female and two males. They are given the surname Flamesong.

Year 5

Spring 5

-Mawaallarra and Syannillynn welcome a litter of four Water pups into the Pack, one female and three males. They are given the surname Moonchaser.

-Leellesanni welcomes a litter of two male Water pups into the Pack. They are given the surname Frostpath.

Summer 5

-One of Mawaallarra and Syannillynn's sons is tragically killed by an eagle. The Pack mourns the loss.

-Voxajia and Qijozax welcome a litter of three Fire pups into the Pack, two females and one male. They are given the surname Stonesong.

-Quazeva and Qijozax welcome a litter of four Fire pups into the Pack, two females and two males. They are given the surname Arrowsong.

Autumn 5

-Pridi Sandstone welcomes a litter of three pups into the Pack, one Earth male and two Earth females. They are given the surname Sunstone.

-Shorosha Blackgale passes peacefully in her sleep. The Pack celebrates her life.

Winter 5

-Tharasha Darkwind welcomes a litter of four pups into the Pack, one Earth female, two Air males, and one Fire male. They are given the surname Darkwind.

Year 6

Spring 6

-Mawaallarra and Syannillynn welcome a litter of four female Water pups into the Pack. They are given the surname Moonchaser.

-Tharasha is starting to feel her age and knows that her time as Leader is growing ever closer to its end. She is keeping a close watch on any Earth pups born into the Pack to see which stands out as the future Leader to take her place.

Summer 6

-Perhaps following in her mother's pawsteps and coming into her heat off the season of her element, Dakra welcomes a litter of three pups into the Pack, one Earth female, one Earth male, and one Air female. They are given the surname Brightdawn.

-Essallee Palemist joins the Pack.

-Quazeva and Qijozax welcome a litter of five Fire pups into the Pack, three males and two females. They are given the surname Arrowsong.

-Voxajia and Qijozax welcome a litter of three Fire pups into the pack, two males and one female. They are given the surname Stonesong.

-The Pack mourns the loss of Dakra's son. His body was found trampled and covered in the scent of bull elk.

-Qijozax retires as the Pack's breeding male. Voxajia has somehow managed to tame Qijozax's selfish heart. The two have been growing ever so slowly closer over the seasons and he has finally decided he wishes to commit to Voxajia fully as her one and only mate, and she as his.

Autumn 6

-Zajirex, the son of Tharasha, becomes the Pack's breeding male.

-Pridi Sandstone passes peacefully in her sleep. The Pack remembers her many contributions.

-Only a day after Pridi passes, her daughter Tega and Zajirex welcome four pups into the Pack, a Fire male, an Earth male, and two Earth females. They are given the surname Darkstone and all are named in some way after their grandmother Pridi.

Winter 6

-A hard winter has Tharasha forbidding any breeding for the season.

-Tharasha chooses Priga Darkstone, daughter of Tega and Zajirex, to succeed her as Leader and encourages her sister Sharithi to choose a pup from Priga's litter as her apprentice.

-Sharithi chooses Petri Darkstone as her apprentice and the Pack's next Herbalist.

-Chathisha Fleetwing and Neffressenn Frostpath both succumb to starvation during the harsh winter.

Year 7

--Sharithi Darkwind contracts a strange disease that even she is unable to cure and after fighting it all winter, finally succumbs to death. The Pack mourns the great loss of their wise and skilled herbalist and her apprentice Petri Darkstone becomes the Pack's new herbalist, despite his short period of training.

-Tharasha helps her chosen successor, Priga, move the Pack to a new territory in the forest. Their new territory is rich with prey, and many litters are born this spring.

Summer 7

-Zavex Brightflame passes away in his sleep, peacefully of old age, leaving a legacy of living offspring in the Pack.

-Tharasha Darkwind passes in her den, with her chosen successor, her granddaughter Priga Darkstone, at her side to hear her last wishes. Priga Darkstone becomes Afinity Pack's new leader.
