Recessive Trait Identifying "Codes" for Community Use [project]

Recessive Trait Identifying "Codes" for Community Use [project]
Posted 2020-12-15 14:06:58 (edited)

tldr: This post is major on coding, I need help.

Hello, my name is Dawn and I am very new to the game. I want to start a project with recessive traits and carriers for these traits/mutations, but don't want to spend much SC on scrying nonstop with no end in sight.

If anybody would like to help me find an easy method to finding hidden traits in wolves that everybody could use, feel free to read!

(Though there are no guarantees that this is possible, I'd like to believe so since it all needed to be coded in order to work in the first place. If anybody disagrees, please let me know if this is a lost cause or not.)

I'm pretty excited to start a albinism or melanism project, but first I need to find a way to scry a bunch of wolves in a very cost efficient way. The scrying stone idea that I've seen everywhere seems to work pretty well for everybody, but since I don't have any contacts with potential carriers and am relatively new to the game, I wanna find a way that won't cost a fortune for such little pay off.

I'm stumbling through the dark, but I've done some research into other games with genetic based game-play such as Lioden and Flight Rising. Flight Rising won't help me much, if at all, because they don't have a recessive trait system implemented in their game.

I've been scrolling through the code trying to find carrier specific nuances that may show whether or not a wolf is a carrier or not, but so far I haven't even found the genetics codes which determine how a wolf will pass down their traits through breeding. I've only checked the codes for the wolf pages and families, I think that the scrying stone and wardrobe might help as well. Stud pages could also help as well, and if that doesn't work, rather than scrying something multiple times, I'll try to scry a pair once and check if the code says something like Ri/RR/Ol or 10% carrier. I doubt it'll be that explicit, but we'll see.

Lioden's way of phrasing things runs along the lines of how a punnet square would be phrased, recessive traits being lowercase and dominant traits being capitalized, gene groups are divided with slants.

ex. Xx/Li/Yu/XQ/Qr/YYcV...etc.

I'm not quite sure how Wolvden would write it out since Wolvden and Lioden have been established to have completely different coding systems/formatting.

If anybody already knows something about this or knows something about coding(in this format preferably) in general, then please feel free to contribute. Everything is welcome!

I'm not great at coding myself and barely understand Wolvden's formatting, so anybody that could help would be great.

Working on it right now, just finished a test.

I've already looked into the home sheet for each wolf, for now I'll look at breeding page stats/codes. I've always been curious to see if they code the genetics for scryed pups.

If I have time after and don't find anything (I'm rather sure I won't) I'll look into Stud pages.

@Whisper

Ah! That'd be great!

If you want to help with codes, I can send you the scry page sources. Other ways that you can help are finding confirmed carriers of albinism or melanism, finding wolves with any recessive traits, sharing code, or giving access to your own wolves. (Confirmed non-carriers are just as good as carriers! I need something to compare them to after all.)

At the moment I'm scrolling through CSS code conducts to see how Wolvden hides codes or where they put important ones like traits and genes.

Saying it out-loud sounds suspicious, but at the moment everything I see is super explicit, like hidden codes being labeled "hidden."

Thanks for offering help! Even just the interest is appreciated :)

I know nothing about coding lol. I'll keep an eye out for unusual traits though

Do you have discord? It's way easier to DM there!
