Luca had found something. A camp of wolves? She could hear chattering barks and yowls as she ventured further north, weaving through trees and dragging her numb paws through the freezing snow. She stopped moving when she was stationed in front of the camp. Her shoulder was lacerated and bleeding as the she-wolf stood motionless and silent, observing the wolves that chatted and laughed happily before her. Her yellow gaze jumped from wolf to wolf and she turned to speak to her old badger friend, Cameron, but she filled with rage and sadness when she remembered that he had left her for dead. She had been travelling for almost a moon by herself now. Her pelt was matted and stained with dirt and blood and her wounds were infected, but trying to heal, but walking kept her shoulder gash from healing properly. She trudged forward, wincing at the soreness in her limbs. She made a noise that sounded like a yowl and a grunt at the same time, introducing herself innocently. Once the others had drawn their eyes to her, she dropped down and rolled over, exposing her belly. She needed to let them know that she was hurt and didn't want to do any harm, she just wanted people to be around, and people to trust.

Luca struggled to regain her balance as she stood to her feet when the wolves acknowledged her intent of no harm. She looked around. These wolves were close. This is the kind of companionship she longed for. These wolves were...friends. A smile made it's way across her muzzle unwillingly as she stalked silently over to a corner to rest. She observed the wolves all night. She could guess their leader, but wasn't completely positive on who it was. She could tell the pack had an organized hierarchy structure, and that they were dealing with a recent issue. A clan of big cats.

Hearing some commotion outside, Leah pulled herself up from her comfortable position in the sun. She felt warm and relaxed from sunbathing and well-rested due to her nap. The day had been rather slow and no threat of the cat clans had disturbed them as of yet. She couldn't help but wonder what the sudden excitement was. After meticulously stretching out her muscles and shaking some dried grass that had accumulated off of her fur, she padded out to the clearing where wolves were beginning to gather. She could see faintly through all the legs and tails that the pack was gathered around a mound of some sort, yet she couldn't make out distinctly what it was for sure. She glanced at Nikolai but he seemed about as caught up as she was; which is to say he knew nothing of the situation.
Leah murmured "excuse me"s and gently prodded wolves out of her way. Most of them moved for her but others were too caught up in whatever it was all the wolves seemed fixated on. She hated to push, but as she got closer to the middle of the commotion she had to make a greater effort to squeeze through and her "excuse me"s seemingly went unheard. She finally reached the center of the activity and stopped cold; Another wolf was laying on the ground in a submissive pose, clearly wounded. She nodded in acknowledgment, seeing that the wolf meant no harm, and cleared a way for the newcomer to find rest in a corner. Leah slowly followed the wolf and waited for her to get cozy before settling down not too far from her. "Mind if I join you for a rest... and maybe ask a few questions of you if you're up for it?" She gave the newcomer a warm grin, to show she had no malicious intent. She was genuinely concerned for the new wolf and wanted to help, if possible.

[OOC: You're perfectly fine. Our posts will likely get longer as things progress, when we have more fleshed out :) ]

Luca settled herself further, silently thanking the pale she-wolf who helped Luca cozy in at a corner. Luca felt safe, for the first time in forever, so it felt. Her mind flurried with images of her parents, and mainly of Cameron. Someone she once thought would be her forever buddy. But now, she would have to make comfortable with the paws in this pack.

Luca felt the strange stares burn into her pelt as the she-wolf addressed her. She looked kind, but authoritative. Luca lowered herself against this wolf's presence. "N-No, I don't mind...", Luca  paused, "Ah, uhm, what is your name?". Her eyes scanned the paler she-wolf in front of her. Her demeanor was kind, and she talked in a gentle sort of way that comforted the young wolf. Luca began to ponder what kind of questions would be asked of her. She huffed slightly and rested her head on her paws in front of her. Luca was in pain, making an effort just to breathe. in, out, in, out. Luca counted her breaths as she lay silently

Leah saw the wolf sink under her gaze. Is my authority that obvious? Then she noticed the stares of the other wolves and, deciding that Luca might feel more comfortable without them, she gave the rest of the pack a gentle reminder in the form of a warning glare. Once the pack members had returned to their initial tasks, before all the commotion, Leah returned her kind gaze to the newcomer. "I'm Leah, the Delta of this pack. And you are?" She noticed the she-wolf lay her head down and was concerned about the labored breathing. "Oh dear, will you be alright? We can take you to the herbalist if you need assistance." Her muscles tensed in preparation to jump up and escort Luca towards help. She wondered where on Earth this wolf had come from and how she'd wound up here. Leah suspected it had to do with the cat clans but was currently less concerned with this wolf's past than she was with the she-wolf's future health. And besides, Leah understood most wolves refused to open up about their history. She expected this wolf to take a similar stance and was prepared to be turned down in that regard. Nonetheless, Leah felt the strong urge to help other wolves, and she was determined to help this one as well.
As she awaited a response, Leah began running through a million possibilities in her head. She debated whether this wolf would need a new pack, her pack, to call home and whether Nikolai would allow it. She figured that he would offer no hard objections, and she certainly would not turn down a wolf in need. She assessed that the wolf in front of her was younger than her, maybe only a couple of years old. She looked over her quickly, but not menacingly, to determine what kind of injuries she may have sustained. Leah also began running over ways to handle this wolf's arrival. The pack would obviously have questions, and maybe concerns, and she would have to be prepared to address them.
She lazily shook her head, her neck fur rolling as she did so, to clear the thoughts from her head. She would have time to ponder the circumstances after the task at hand. For now,, she needed to provide a safe place, and possibly some healing, for this wolf.

Luca flicked her ears. So many sounds and new voices, she didn't know how to feel about it all. She was so distracted that she barely heard Leah talk to her. "And I am Luca", she nodded politely, forcing a smile to cross her muzzle as she lifted her head to meet the gaze of Leah. From what she could tell, Leah was an athletic she-wolf. She was petite, at least smaller than Luca herself. Leah was well-groomed and looked very noble. Luca locked her yellow gaze on Leah's kind eyes. She had to tear her gaze as she choked on tears. Deep down, even if Luca didn't want to believe it, she was changing. She shook her whole body weakly, shaking off any stress and negative emotions for the time being. "I think rest shall do the trick for the time being, plus, I wouldn't want this pack wasting herbal supplies on a foreign wolf like me. You've already been so generous", Luca forced herself to meet Leah's gaze once more and dip her head in thanks.

Luca raised her right front paw to scratch at her muzzle. 'damn flies', she thought to herself. She looked back up at Leah. "I know you had some questions?", she inquired. "I'm sorry about randomly showing up, I just needed somewhere safe to stay for a bit while I search for a pack.", Luca knew this pack was already very generous to her, but she didn't expect them to just, let her stay forever. She would be useful though. Though she couldn't right now, she is an intelligent individual. She thinks on her feet and she has stamina and endurance for days. Luca couldn't swim very well, but she could climb and run, and that was all she needed to survive for a moon's worth of time.

Leah nodded. Luca. She would make an effort to remember the name; she had a feeling this wolf was going to be staying longer than she imagined. Even though Luca said she just needed rest, Leah was worried about her. She had clearly been hurt and Leah hated seeing wolves in pain, even ones she didn't know.

Leah flicked her ear as a fly landed on it, and watched Luca scratch at her muzzle. She listened intently as Luca spoke, then carefully considered her response. "I do have some questions, yes... But you don't have to answer them if you are not comfortable doing so." Leah figured she wouldn't get much of anywhere with her questions, but she wanted to at least try. And if these injuries were the work of the cat clans, she needed to know where it happened. Her own pack could be in danger if the cats were close. "Your injuries, how did you sustain them? And where is it you're coming from?" Leah looked kindly at Luca when the she-wolf apologized for showing up unannounced. "That's no problem at all. We would never turn down a wolf in need." She opened her mouth to speak and to say that Luca could stay as long as she needed, and maybe even find a home among them, but quickly stopped herself. She would have to discuss with Nikolai, and she needed to know more about this wolf before they let her into their home for any extended length of time.

Luca smiled at Leah's concern. "No, I'd be happy to answer", she laughed silently, lifting her head and sitting up. It hurt to move from the lying position she was once in, but she would think better if she felt more awake. Luca kept her tail close to her and her ears slightly pinned back, respective to Leah, of course. She avoided eye contact, except for the occassional direct smile. Luca heaved a sigh at Leah's question. "A grizzly bear", she laughed a little more loudly this time around, "I'm lucky to have survived." Luca shook her pelt and blinked slowly. "I come from the Southwest, in a more coastal region. I used to live close to strange creatures that had four legs but walked on twos. They called the land "meh-ci-coh" or something like that." She looked up. The day was beginning to break and give in to the shadows of the night to let the moon rule over the wolves now.

Leah's eyes widened at the mention of the bear. "Wow, you're lucky to have lived through that indeed." As Luca told of where she was from, Leah tried to think back. Mecico, Mecico. Where was that? She pondered for a second before recalling a vague memory of a place called Mexico. The wolf who had told her about it had always pronounced it me-hi-co. She figured that was the place Luca was referring to. All she knew about it was the name though, she had never been.  "I've never been, personally. But those creatures sound strange... Why would they walk on two legs if they have four?" She chuckled a bit before resting her head down.
She glanced over at Luca and noticed the wolf had her tail tucked and her ears pressed down against her head. She gave a warm smile before saying, "
I appreciate the respect, but you may relax. After all, since you are not yet a member of this pack, I have no real authority over you." She paused. "Though while you are here, I do expect you to follow pack rules, of course."

Leah felt an itch on her forearm and gently scratched at it with her teeth, before smoothing the fur out again with a swipe of her tongue. "How long do you think you will be staying?" She didn't want to give the wolf any idea that she could become part of the pack before she discussed it with the Alpha. She had already made the mistake of saying 'yet', one she had hoped Luca would not pick up on. Well, she couldn't take back her words now. And maybe some sort of hope is what this wolf needed right about now.
The flies kept pestering them, and Leah was constantly flicking her ears to get them off. She looked at Luca's wound. That's likely what attracted the flies. Luca had already denied any sort of herbalist help, which was a tad concerning for Leah. She appreciated the wolf's wish to not overstay her welcome or abuse her pack's generosity, but she also did not want the wound to become infected and, possibly, lethal. Leah decided she might head to the herbalist later tonight and bring Luca some healing herbs anyway.
