The Dekay Pack

Located in a perpetually foggy coniferous forest, the Dekay Pack boasts a small yet resilient population. Wanderers are rare here, with outsiders becoming lost to the sprawling mist more often than they conquer it. Only the residents of the seemingly isolated world within the fog can navigate it, but it isn't an inborn ability. The fog breathes and shifts with each crunching step in ice-mottled underbrush and it takes decades, lifetimes to learn how to respire in tandem. Those unfamiliar tell of uncanny darkness that traipses their periphery, of feelings of agitation and wrongness. Those within are safe from neighbouring packs, but only because of the bitten rumours of a curse that swells at the fog's borders and tempts only the most foolish to enter.

Also referred to as The Beginning or the Raven Age, this is the first era to be immortalised in the archives. While times before existed, it is agreed within the pack that the Founding Age is the start of the Dekay's linage.

Founded by Loveless, this generation gained the soubriquet of Raven Age due to her corvid-black pelt that shimmered iridescent beneath the rare sun ray. Despite being regarded as the Founder, or Progenitress, it was her mate who taught her the rules of the land and its mercurial fog; born into it, Moongrave was a pale spectre of a wolf, slight in stature and quick to extinguish disobedience toward his partner. His unshakable loyalty alone gave Loveless the confidence to lead The Originals, a small group of enervated and shunned youths, into the legacy that it is today.

Despite her curious moniker, Loveless was bestowed the title of Merciful during her reign. While the irony was not lost on many, she wore the appellation with grace and pride, often overwhelmed by the admiration her pack displayed. Little is known about the she-wolf's origins, but it was often rumoured that she was exiled from her natal pack and given her odd name during this period of her life. The reason why Loveless chose to keep her name eluded many, but Loveless would eventually divulge to her mate that she kept it to remember her dam, the she-wolf who scarred it upon her identity. Loveless would not confess further about why her mother would name her such a cruel word, and the pair would never speak of it again. First born to Loveless and Moongrave was Rhewllyd. A lone pup born into a new pack bumbling to find its place, Rhewllyd saw more of the pack herbalist, Porcelain, than his progenitors. He shared resemblance to his father in appearances and mother in stature but grew to disfavour them both as he aged, hurt by their absence in his adolescent years. Due to their strained relationship, Rhewllyd spent the majority of his time in the pack away from its members, recruiting his own posse within the growing population. Perusing the life of a chaser, he eventually spearheaded the Fog Watch as its Lead Chaser, followed closely behind by his second-in-command and closest confidant, Bleddyn, a roughish wolf that delighted in stirring havoc among the pack.

To not make the same mistake twice, Loveless and Moongrave waited until the pack was better developed to bring their second litter into the world. Amongst the pups was Siorys, the only wolf of the litter to continue to live within his natal pack. Much like his father and elder brother, Siorys also became a chaser, learning under Tanager, and then Moongrave's, vigilant eyes. Despite his brother's relationship with their progenitors, the two had a close friendship, and Rhewllyd never passed up the opportunity to teach his brother tricks of the trade before their sire could. However, Loveless and Moongrave had not yet found the heir to the pack, as Siorys was content with his role as chaser alongside his mate, Yvette, whom the pack aided in escaping from a life of domesticity.
