WOLVDEN FELINE ASSOCIATION

update 1: a few small edits were made to the main handbook to make it easier to read. a quickplay guide was created with less than 1/3 of the reading of the full guide, and it makes use of lots of bullet points to simplify things.
update 2: showing equation modified to be a little easier to read.
update 3: discord made! going to generate some cats then send out invites for the server.
update 4: one test show was run and the results were found to be too variable. show algorithm was completely reworked.
update 5: showing algorithm updated to make judge preference boosts significantly smaller.

ABOUT

the wolvden feline association (WFA) is a manually run sim game revolving around cat showing! the game was written with three different fictional cat breeds to play with, based on a mix of real-life breeds. the game is run with a couple of equations written specifically for the game, and a couple of random number generators. while WFA will technically be an interactive adoptable, at its heart it will be more of a game, with clear cut rules and expectations so you know what to expect while playing! breeding is an aspect of the game, but it is not in any way the main point of it.

HOW TO PLAY

the WFA handbook is located HERE.
a quick play guide can be located HERE.

WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR

at the moment i'm mostly looking for three things:
1) i'm really looking for feedback on the handbook. is it too much? is it too simple? is it something that sounds fun? is it something you would actually be interested in doing? did you find typos? are things written weirdly?
2) i'm looking for maybe 5-10 people who might want to play the game with no art, just to test the system. if you'd like to do this, it'd be best if we could all join a little discord server so tiny shows can be run quickly and i can get immediate feedback on how you guys feel about the game. if the game makes it past this little alpha test, all cats will probably be wiped, but we can talk about little rewards for alpha testers. (a custom g1 cat to start with? a free retired Ch cat? we'll talk about it.)
3) i'm hesitantly looking for an artist that might be interested in helping out. hesitant because i am really proud of this mock-up for the game, but it really could be nice to work with someone else. if i don't find quite who i'm looking for, i'll likely wait a few weeks and commission someone to do linearts, but that's a future thing, considering people are even interested.

Just want to pop in here and say I'm taking a look at the handbook right now. I'll come back when I've gone through them :D

I was wondering what real-life cat breeds are you thinking about when considering the three breeds (just want to google images to see).

Just me though, I would like the first letter of every sentence/pronouns to be capitalized. While doing a quick skim, I sometimes have a hard-time on sentence cut-off (again because I was reading quickly). It also feels more professional.

It is a really long read. Personally I don't mind, but I think it would be good if you can summarize key ideas in a table or graph format so that visually there appears to be less text.

Have you considered building an excel model so that it automatically calculates results with some inputs (can be used for breeding and shows)? I think this would greatly reduce human errors and processing time. I know on Deviantart there are many experienced people that build rollers for ARPGs.

Sounds like a great game; I would like to help test if needed. I can join discord.

@1965 sol

thank you for reading everything and giving feedback!

as for breeds, foriegn cats were mostly based on oriental shorthairs, with mixes of devon rexes, abyssinian cats, somali cats, and siamese cats.

shorthair cats are based on british shorthairs, with mixes of american shorthairs, russian blues, bengal cats, havana browns, and egyptian maus.

longhair cats are mostly based on maine coons, with mixes of siberian cats, norwegian forest cats, ragdolls, american bobtails, manxes, and birman cats.

all three game breeds are fictional and differ from these real life breeds, but those are the ones i had in mind while making them. c:

as for formatting and letter capitalization, i can definitely go through and capitalize letters to help with readability. i'll see what i can do about a condensed guide in table format! i'll probably make it a separate "quick play" guide in a different file so that it doesn't end up looking like it's 15+ pages long.

i was actually thinking of making a few excel sheets! one to reference all cats in the game, one for admin use, and one with all show results so they can easily be referenced. it's good to know that other people also run games like that- i was worried i was thinking too hard about it.

once again, thank you so much for your input! i'll add you to a list for when the test game is up and running!

I'd love to see this idea put to life! I'd definitely be interested in partaking in this. It seems like a really fun, cute idea

This seems really really cool. I'd definitely be open to being an alpha tester, and maybe doing some artwork for the game

This sounds really interesting! RPG's are always fun and I dont really see many based around cats. Usually, its dogs and horses that get the attention

I found the guide easy to read and the information on it is very clear and the miniguide summed it up very well

If/when you create the testing server, I would love to be a part!

@510 soundthebugle

thank you! it's been living in my head for a while, but i never really sat down and made a working game before. i'm surprised cats aren't too popular for games like this! i'm really glad the guide and mini-guide are informative and easy to understand too! i really want the game to be accessible for anyone, so i was scared i was overcomplicating things or explaining things poorly.

i'll add you to my list for the test game! at the moment we have 6 people including myself, so i'm going to wait a little bit to see if anyone else wants to join in, then i'll make the server c:
