Kestrelheart

A gentle, hardly audible purr warmed Kestrelheart's chest once she realized Moonfeather accepted her invitation. Out of respect, she lifted herself up into a sitting position, curling her tail over her back paws.

"Hey there, Moonfeather," she continued to smile, blinking hard a few times to fully wake herself, eventually lifting a paw up to wipe her whiskers.

"Hmm… how has this moon treated you? I see you've had luck hunting," Kestrelheart smiled, offering two different subjects to talk about in case the she-cat was sensitive to the first, placing her paw back down on the log.

Rainstrike

The manner in which Rainstrike carried himself was with heavy composure. There was no hesitance or caution about how he moved - each paw step placed with purpose and fluidity of his movement shadowed the unwavering confidence he held within himself. Outwardly, he had not let the traumatic events of the previous moon falter him.

The gray tom circled back toward the camp shortly after he had spotted Moonfeather return with prey. It was a great relief to know the she-cat had safely returned.

Rainstrike had a difficult time keeping still, he couldn't just not be doing anything -- so if he was't spending his time hunting, he would be keeping watch at the camp entrance. He'd never admit it, but ever since the dog attack, he was constantly paranoid and on edge. He worried there could be another attack at any moment. If it were up to him, no cat would be permitted to leave camp on their own. It was too dangerous.

He abandoned his false guard duties - he hadn't been deliberately asked to keep watch - and strode into the clearing where his clanmates had gathered. When he passed Kestrelheart and Moonfeather, he paused only briefly to praise the dark gray she-cat on her successful catch, before moving on without waiting for a response.

Even if he wasn't particularly close to any of the cats, they were still his clan, and therefore extremely important to him.

Despite how unbothered he seemed by what had happened, and how hopeful he expressed he was about the clan's future - beyond the stone walls he'd built around himself, a war was raging within his heart and mind. A war he was losing. He couldn't recall the last time he'd gotten a full night's sleep, or what the forest had felt like before the shadows and tangled branches were full of dogs that weren't there.

He found a spot near the big rocks and sat down, curling his tail neatly around his paws. Stagcall looked as if he was deep in thought, so Rainstrike suspected that meant their leader might have something to share soon.

In the meantime, he lifted a paw to begin working the dirt out from between his paws that'd gathered from his near-constant pacing and walking around.

Silverbloom

Silverbloom lay in the corner of the clearing, waking up at the sound of Rainstrike pacing around. She put they head on their paws, hoping to go on a patrol soon. The dog attack had shown the most on Silverbloom, losing her tail and one of their eyes, and she was still getting used to it.

Looking around, Silverbloom was surprised to see that everyone seemed... calm to her. The feral dogs had attacked a moon ago, but she still blamed herself for what happened. She still blamed herself for not being able to protect her clanmates. Her face betrayed her feelings rarely, and this was one of these times.

'I should be with them. I should be in StarClan. I've failed them...' She thought

Stagcall

Stagcall looked around at his surroundings, noticing how unusual it was for the quiet moonfeather to be interacting with the others. He flinched when he turned around to find Pigeonfeather behind him, but quickly composed himself, standing tall in the dappled sunlight.

"Cats of…" he mumbled, He couldn't bring himself to call their group a clan, nor himself an actual leader. He just couldn't. They're only just a group of cats now.

Stagcall almost thought of mentioning the tragedy but decided against it to avoid further dampening the mood. With confidence, he raised his head and spoke up. "Attention, everyone." he announced, flicking his tail to beckon all the cats to gather around.

"I have decided to conduct patrols as I have scented a strange scent lingering around while I was searching for prey, one sunrise ago. The patrols will be done in groups to ensure safety." Stagcall turned to pigeonfeather before continuing. "Pigeonfeather, take kestrelheart and Silverbloom with you. May your patrol go well." He urged.

Silverbloom

Surprised by the sudden patrol, Silverbloom sprang up at the thought of finally going outside of the refugee camp. She quickly collected herself to her usual, emotionless self, hoping that no-one saw.

Waiting at the camp entrance for pigeonfeather and kestrelheart, Silverbloom sat down and started licking her paw. What was the 'strange sent'? What will they find? She was to eager to wait another second, but stayed were she was.

Pigeonfeather

Pigeonfeather sat taller as his leader named him to patrol the edges of their makeshift territory. He looked towards Kestrelheart and Silverbloom, trying to assess how this patrol would go. Kestrelheart seemed a little bit withdrawn, possibly from the dog attack, but also friendly and willing to strike up a conversation. Silverbloom, he could get less of a read on. She seemed a lot cooler. Pigeonfeather decided that open, honest excitement was the best thing to cheer everyone up, shoving his anxiety deep down. He strutted towards the two she-cats with his tail in the air and a friendly expression on his face.

"Hi!" he mewed, trying to keep his whiskers up and show his peace. "I'm sure this patrol will lead to no worries, whatever that scent is, but it's good to have company, right? Not that- not that I was saying that Stagcall was wrong about the scent, I wouldn't doubt him, I just mean-" He paused and his whiskers quivered in embarrassment. Trust him to go putting his paw in his mouth the moment he talked.

"Anyway," he coughed out, trying to move on, "Are you both ready to head out?"

Kestrelheart

Kestrelheart lifted her head, looking past Moonfeather with her ears perked as Stagcall began speaking. She was fairly surprised to hear her name, but gently excused herself from the other she-cat with a quiet apology. She was sure they could talk another time.

As for now, the tabby stood up from the log, hopping down once she saw Pigeonfeather drawing closer. She lifted her tail with a warm greeting, and then she turned her eyes to Silverbloom, already at the entrance for them both.

A small pang of sadness appeared in her chest as she saw the damage on the she-cat. No one deserved the scars they'd earned that day, and she was included in that thought. But she kept the genuine smile on her face, hoping this patrol would lift the moods of at least the other two with her.

"Oh, I agree about having company," Kestrelheart chuckled softly after Pigeonfeather spoke, seeming lightheartedly amused at his words. She nodded once he asked his question, turning to Silverbloom afterwards.

Silverbloom

Even through her emotionless expression, Silverbloom could not contain the excitement, and a hint of... jealousy?, in her voice. "Shall we go now?" she asked as calmly as she could.

As they started to walk outside of the camp, Silverbloom could not contain the question, "What do you think were tracking? And before you even think about asking if I need help, I'm fine on my own" She sat down on the moss-covered and waited patiently for the others to respond. What would they think was out their? Was she overreacting? What if... no. She stopped her from asking herself another word. Her scars should be enough to tell her to hope as much as she can that they were not stumbling into the feral dogs, yet her face still gave nothing away.

Moonfeather
Moonfeather looked eagerly at Stagcall, but when he called for the patrol, not hearing her name made her head drop. She knew that the others treated her differently because she was newer and she wasn't there for the battle, so she was used to it. She watched as Silverbloom, Pigeonfeather, and Kestrelheart began to leave, and sighed.

As they left, she padded over to Stagcall, wanting to be of use to the group. "What can I do?" she asked him. "Can I help with anything?"

Stagcall

Stagcall observed the cats below the big rock where he stood, their gaze fixed on him, before they carried on with their activities. The brown toms yellow eyes followed the three as they left, with silverbloom leading them out of camp. He wished for their safe return and hoped they would discover the source of the strange scent.

The short moment of silence broke down when he was approached by moonfeather, stagcall slowly turned around to face the silver she-cat.

"What can I do?" She asked him. "Can I help with anything?"

"You've already done well bringing prey to the group, moonfeather." Stagcall reassured her. "It's quite uncommon for a quiet cat like you to start a chat especially with the others, I've always seen you keeping to yourself back then." He blurted out. "I suppose everyone that stayed in the camp must be dying to do something interesting, perhaps you have something in mind?" He tilted his head.
