The Vargulves [Pack Lore]

Please do not post in this thread! Inspired by lore content found on this website, I wanted to try my hand at creating lore for my pack (as it was intended). I would eventually be unable to post all of my lore on just my profile, so this thread will contain the majority of The Vargulves's lore.

The "Vargulf"

The vargulf (from Norse meaning "Rogue Wolf") is a physically capable wolf. They are highly aggressive, unlike the typical lone wolf who claims they are aggressive. Unlike the health condition of the same name (denoted by a capitalized 'V'), a vargulf is a highly respected leader. They have a pelt as dark as the ash from a wildfire and either eyes as rich as blood or as bright and full like the moon.

There is one core similarity between a vargulf and a Vargulf: they are extremely hard to kill and will resurrect themself until they achieve their goals.

A Failed Beginning
Well over three decades ago, Fenix had a vision: there would be a wolf that challenged all wolves. A child, a son, kin of his kin. The only wolf who bared the right to be named "Vargulf," the King of wolves. To make his return easy, Fenix named his pack "The Vargulves," to make it clear who they belonged to.

...

Several years passed. Fenix's bloodline had dissipated and faith behind their King had vanished. The pack lost sight of what they sought after and what they stood for. The high aggression and skill they so greatly took pride in, was gone just in a few generations.

The King's Return
In the 28th Year, a dark-colored male emerges from the shadows. He claims to be the reincarnation of the pack's founder, the leader they have been waiting for. He is questioned for his legitimacy, and he responds with stories only the great-grandchildren of the founder would know to be accurate. The pack steps down so he can take power, even if there are those who are hesitant.

Immediately, he seizes the throne and establishes his law among his people. He has them strictly categorized to separate the strong from the week and sets out finding a Queen and any females to give him viable offspring.

Yet his appearance still begs a question: Is Vargulf really who he says he is?

The Vargulves Law

  • All Those of Vargulf's Blood Must Be Titled "King" and Take on His Name. A child, preferably the first son, of every Vargulf descendent must take on the name "Vargulf" in hopes they will become the next heir to the throne. If they do not see the throne in their lifetime, their name will be changed. The child must have a dark pelt with 'menacing' eyes.

  • The Vargulf Bloodline, Entitled "KIN," May Not Inbreed. The bloodline must remain clean. Wolves who are not of Vargulf may breed freely, especially non-heirs, since they have no chance at the throne.

  • Only The King is Permitted to Mate Outside of Marriage The King has claim to all females in his pack. He may form a harem and choose to breed with only them, but the common wolf is permitted to only reproduce with their own mate. The King may choose to have a male breed in his place, but he must have the blood of the first Vargulf in his veins.

  • Every Wolf is Entitled to a Bloodline. The Bloodline, otherwise "family name," convention is as follows: [Name] of [Family Title]. The family name comes from combining the original founders names together. Having a recognized family within The Vargulves is akin to having a "sub-pack," which comes with a lot of benefits (and often catches the attention of many desperate of Nothings). In order for a family to qualify for their own sub-pack, they must have a list of outstanding achievements and meet the following criteria:

    • The family must have a minimum of seven (7) adult wolves over the age of 2 Years old. Five (5) of which have to be pups that survived into adulthood.

    • Otherwise, a wolf with no bloodline is titled [Name] of Nothing, because they are nothing to The Vargulves until they have proven otherwise.

  • Of Endling's Are Without Rights and Banished to the Extremities of the Territory. The title of Endling is the absolute last worst title a wolf of The Vargulves can receive. Wolves only receive the of Endling name if they are "imported" from another pack. What an of Endling does in the Outskirts is of no business to The Vargulves. It is forbidden to marry with an of Endling. Offspring of an of Endling may train amongst the The Vargulves' children, as they have more hope in life.

  • Marriage and Rights to Children Must Be Approved By the King. No one may be married or produce children without first consulting the King. Those of The Vargulf's Council have first rights to any female in the pack.
    • All Wolves Must Be Aggressive or Stoic. This pack has no room for weakness. A wolf must be prepared to defend their own hide when the time comes.

      • Herbalists and Caretakers May Be of Any Disposition. These are the only wolves tolerated to be Friendly or Romantic.

    • Wolves May Eat Every 4 Days and Play Every 8 Days. Only puppies under 6 months and nursing mothers are permitted to eat and play daily for enrichment.

The Bloodlines
of Vargulf

Direct descendants of Vargulf I, the of Vargulf bloodline dominates all of the other bloodlines. Since this line is so expansive, yet simultaneously very restrictive, wolves who mate into the bloodline are denoted as "of Vargulf in Bond". Only their offspring, from an of Varulf partner, can claim their parent's rightful title.

Any wolf who is born with a family title and eventually marries a of Vargulf, is forced to give up their main family name. While not recommended, that wolf may choose to make their birth name their "sub name." Which may look like: [Wolf Name] of Vargulf sub [Family Name]

The of Vargulf's produce the strongest and highest stated wolves. Many of these wolves must be aggressive to claim heir to the throne. Yet, even if they never see the title of King, many of them still find themselves as leaders of Hunting Parties.

  • Bein - Son of Aspero of Beveak - No Heir Status - Scout
  • Asra - Daughter of Aspero of Beveak - No Heir Status - Hunter / Warrior
  • Lýsa - Daughter of Opalescent of Vargulf - No Heir Status - Hunter
  • Faciem - Daughter of Opalescent of Vargulf - No Heir Status - Hunter
  • Faciem - Son of Ferrum of Beveak - No Heir Status - Hunter

of Beveak

The of Beveak family name comes from its founders Bevel (Dam) and Daybreak (Sire). The Beveak's are the most prominent family line despite the primary family line being of Vargulf. This is because the Beveak's have existed under both the temporary leadership of Gundulf (in his final years) and Tommy.

The of Beveak's produce the pack's best Finishers and Stalkers. Their founder, Bevel, being one of the best Finishers in The Vargulves History. And their other founder, Daybreak, is one of the pack's most proficient Stalkers.

Almost all hunting parties in The Vargulves has an of Beveak as their Stalker or Finisher.

The founders have recently retired at a little over 7 Years of age. They are now mentors of a new generation as Bevel raises her last pup, Silvermoon, after Gloam, Lunarstreak, and Nightbreak have reached adulthood. The of Beveak lineage is hoped to continue through any recent marriages.

of Nothing

Wolves with no direct family ties, or unknown bloodlines, are titled of Nothing. Likewise, wolves with an of Nothing title (and with a rank that does not make them worthy of The Council), they can expect to be treated like the Omegas of the pack. Due to such low status, there is a pecking order among them.

Wolves with the of Nothing name may find themselves with their own family name if they can find a mate and raise three (3) of their pups to adulthood or if they marry into an existing bloodline.

The of Nothing name is the absolute lowest a wolf can get before becoming an of Endling, a wolf who came from another pack but is not otherwise accepted as an official member of The Vargulves.
