It is said that first was the Bear. Alone, a great stone bear wondered the vast expanse of the sky in search of a purpose. How long it walked on its own is unknown, but it is thought that it was long enough to reach the end of the sky itself and come back again. By this point the solitude had eaten away at the Stone Bear. It took its last shaky steps and laid in the emptiness of the sky.  As it closed its eyes it took free the object it found to cause its pain, its own heart. Pulling it from its chest it broke it in two. Hoping that some part of it could at least know the company of another. Without the heart, the great bear drew its final breath. The pieces of its heart becoming the Great stag, nestled in its antlers the sun, and the fearsome wolf, the moon hanging from its jaws. The wolf ever hungry pursued the stag across the back of the stone bear, but the stag always faster, would forever be ahead just out of reach. As the Stone Bear's body decomposed, and the Great Stag brought warmth to its flesh plants grew from the soil. The Great Stag wishing to have moments of rest would send pieces of himself to the soil of the Stone Bear. These pieces would graze and frolic till the Great Stag needed to call them back to be replaced with another part that needed more rest. The Wolf always behind, but never unaware of the stags movements, saw this and thought this an opportunity. It in kind, sent parts of itself to the ground to chase the pieces back to the stag before they were refreshed. This was to the wolf's hope to weaken the stag enough to slow it down. This only caused the Great Stag to scatter its parts to the sky, the wolves on their heels. The parts attempt to make it back to the whole, and the whole longs for the rest the pieces make. Both the Great Stag and the Fearsome Wolf sent their parts to the soil, jut to be scattered to the sky in hopes to make it back to the whole.  The Wolf and the Stag are incomplete, and always loosing parts of itself. We, the stags pieces, live our lives knowing that some day we will be called back to the sky in hopes of joining the whole.

*Background*

How do you do? Welcome to Hoof and Claw! This Role play will have a dramatic, character driven plot. In that spirit, in character fights, deaths, relationships, and trauma are all on the table. Please try and keep the drama between the characters and not one another.

Even though the story at the beginning of the post only mentions deer, wolves, and bears, there are all kinds of woodland creatures in this world. Take caution what you run into. They might not be able to understand your attempts at friendship. Humans do not exist in this world.

The herd that will have the staring role of this role play is a small herd run by the newly appointed lead buck. The old leader, Honey'tounge, having died in a flash flood, the burden of protecting herd now falls upon the second in command, Swift'stride.  Honey'tounge had a son, but he is reckless, and too young to lead just yet. The herd finds its current home to be a large, fair weathered, grassland surrounded by tall mountain peaks. They have lived peacefully for a generation or two, without any encounters from wolves. The young of the group do not believe that they even exist; however, the elders remember and tell cautionary tails to any fawn that will listen.
