The cemeteries across this lone New England town are sprawling and ill managed. The graves are smooth and unreadable, barely more than rocks placed evenly apart. On the hill, a mausoleum overgrown with ivy and tall grass sits silently in the night. Below, the heart of town beats fitfully in the dark, electric lights flickering through sheets of rain. The people have been keeping the lights on all the time now. It is rumored if you stare into the dark cemeteries too long, something will start staring back.

Rules
•Follow Wolvden Guidelines!
•You can start out with as many as two characters. You don't have to respond with every character every post, but please keep track of them all!
•I'd prefer if this roleplay is somewhat relaxed, with a minimum of a small paragraph per post with enough content to respond to in an interesting way, but I will try to meet responses in length if they are longer.
•You can start with a human, but I prefer if we stagger their transformations across the plot for ✨drama✨ if there are more than one.
•Typical strengths for everyone: Immortal, stuck at the age they were bitten, physically stronger body and senses than a human.
•Typical weaknesses for everyone: Sunlight, being staked through the heart, being burned, beheading. I think adding garlic would be funny but not necessary.
•The nature of these creatures is that the content of this roleplay may be violent. Please keep that in mind. Players must agree on injuries / winner if there is a fight.

Name: Abel Reykur
Pronouns: He/Him
Age in appearance: 20
Year turned into Vampire: 1988
Appearance: Abel is a relatively tall man with broad shoulders, short blonde hair, and a square face. His cold blue/grey eyes are always sort of narrowed, as if he couldn't be bothered to express anything other than boredom. As a fan of material possessions, he usually dresses very well and in layers. Instead of a large ripped cloak or bloody clothing, he's more fond of current fashion trends. It's hard to discern whether his clothes came from a victim, he stole them, or he just wandered into a shop and bought them.
What do they want: A little excitement. Living and hiding in the shadows has become sort of boring, and he's ready to get out a little and cause problems on purpose.
Ability: Turn into smoke / mist. He thinks it's super cool to be honest and will use it for a dramatic entrance or exit.
Other: Awful sense of humor. Sort of closed off emotionally. Probably at least a little fruity.

Name: Maeve Frost
Pronouns: She/Her
Age in appearance: 23
Year turned into Vampire: 2009
Appearance: Maeve is a curvy woman with wide hips and a short stature. Her ashy brown hair falls in chaotic curls to her mid-back and frames her face in the front. She has very large, round brown eyes and high eyebrows. She hasn't been a vampire very long compared to some, and is still very fond of a long-sleeved slate grey dress from her turning. It has become very ripped and frayed on the bottom. The vibe is something between a scared deer in the middle of the road and a cackling witch.
What do they want: Aspects of humanity that have become alien to them; comfort in numbers, companionship.
Ability: Swarm (little brown bats). This is usually pretty chaotic and causes problems in small spaces.
Other: Nostalgic, aloof, emotional, and craving company. And probably blood, for obvious reasons.

Name: Gavriil 'Gabe' Belyakov
Pronouns: He/Him
Age in appearance: 28
Year turned into Vampire: 1967
Appearance: Gabe is not what one would think of when they think 'vampire', mainly because his skin retained it's dark olive coloring from his home country. He's tall at 6'4'', and has a lithe, athletic build; not unlike the leopard he can shift into. Gabe has sharp, almond shaped eyes set deep in a square face that is perpetually covered in a five-o-clock shadow. Said eyes are a dark hazel, lightening to something closer to green in bright light. His dark hair is in messy curls cut close to his head. In terms of clothing Gabe tends to stay in whatever is considered casual depending on the era. Right now he likes dark jeans and Henley's.
What Do They Want: Having grown up in a large, close-knit family he mainly wants that kind of kinship once more. He's had his fun, caused a lot of chaos, but now he's more interested in what he's going to do next.
Ability: Shapeshifting. He can turn into an amur leopard, one of the rare big cats from his birth country, at will.
Other: A boisterous, fun-loving, and friendly guy, Gabe's an extrovert whose not always a fan of his own company. And yes, he see's the irony in this considering his power is to shift into a solitary cat. He does have a bit of a feline temper and can be quick to snark and snarl; but usually it's for show.

Name: Etele Balázs

Pronouns: He/Him

Age in appearance: Appears to be early 20's. He has a baby face, so it is hard to tell.

Year turned into Vampire: 1658

Appearance: His long, triangular face is framed by shoulder length, flat, black hair. Though his face is young, his age shows in his rich earth colored eyes. They are tired and filled with stress lines. He holds a permanent look of disappointment and melancholy. The years of unrelenting depression have not only taken hold of his psyche but physique as well. He has a thin frame accompanied with lanky arms. One could see a picture of a wiry tree, about to be blown away by a light breeze, and mistake it for him.

What do they want: To be happy, or at the very least content. He has lived for so long and been through so much that he finds very little entertains him.

Ability: Healing through blood (self and others)

Other: A haunted demeanor. He moves as though floating not making much sound. This is reflected when he hunts. He is nothing if not efficient in this aspect. You tend not to notice him till it is to late. This is a stark difference to his younger years. In the villages on the border of Romania and Hungry he was known as a saint turned blood thirsty terror. His martyrdom tainted by the devil.

((A note to anyone else: you can write as much as you want! Here is an introduction to both of my vampires.))

Maeve
Maeve kept close. She couldn't resist. White-knuckled from atop a marble headstone, she watched her people. The town below her came to life in the rush to get home in time for dinner. Lights were on- overhead, lamps, fairy lights, car headlights- to cast long shadows at a time of year when night came long before the living were ready to rest. To keep Maeve hidden.

She was not hunting. Not tonight. She had, previously, found a quick meal in a college student who had wandered too close to the cemetery on the hill. The hunger of being a vampire was impossible to resist, even when it hurt her beloved townspeople, but she had managed to pull herself away before she claimed his life as well as his blood. She presumed he had been able to get help and she had simply contributed to the people's fear of the monsters in the cemetery.

But I'm not a monster, Mauve thought to herself, a sad smile tugging at her lips. The cold air brought snowflakes and she turned her attention to watch them fall. They hit her skin and remained perfect tiny fractals. She frowned. The snow hadn't melted on her in years.

Abel

Abel, meanwhile, was knee-deep in brittle, broken ivy. He could see the old wood of the mausoleum door. If he had been alive, his muscles would have ached. He had been here since sunset clearing the plant detritus from this side doorway. His immortality gave him incredible stamina, and he moved at his human strength with an unnatural, almost robotic, consistency.

"If only I was one of those strong vampires," He muttered through gritted teeth. In his travels he had previously seen vampires do things like uproot a tree or carry several men. Safely. From a distance. Able had no desire to befriend another isolated, murderous monster who could kill him. He was forced to be the blocky man he lived as decades ago.

His large, sturdy hard gripped the cleared door knob and he gave it an experimental twist. Locked. No matter. The space was cleared and the wood looked old. Abel backed up several yards, dropped his shoulder, and rammed into the wood as hard as he could. The door fell before him with a loud bang and cloud of dust.

Etele

A loud thud awoke Etele from his decade long sleep. His muscles ached. His mind thick with the fog of hunger. How convenient, He thought, A meal bringing itself to me after such a long nap.  He listened, waiting for the intruder, and potential snack, to make their way to the farthest end of the mausoleum.  He gently lifted the stone slab set loosely in place to cover his present hiding spot. This being one of the top left most crypts lining the mausoleum's walls. Gliding like a shadow, he crept closer. The ancient resting place not betraying his movement along its cracked floors. Upon seeing his prey and odd sensation overcame him. He stopped,  pondered the man's offsetting presence. He heard no heart beat. The man before him also did not have the appetizing smell of the living.  The realization clicked in his mind. The intruder  was of the living dead.
He did not care much for his own kind. They had tricked and betrayed him enough through the years, and now they have awoken him with out a single thought to his condition. Perhaps he has come to kill me while i am weak. A pang of anxiety ran through him, which had taken him aback. Emotions have been so rare for Etele these past few centuries. He cherished them even if they spoke of his downfall. Silently, he offered thanks to this sudden threat. He might have to kill the man but he would make it swift.
Etele reached for the stand of some long forgotten funerary art.  Gripping the rotten, wooden easel, he held it to the individuals back in about the spot he presumed his heart to be. Etele spoke, the words falling before he could catch himself. "It seems a rat has found its way into my domicile. I don't much care for vermin". His subtle Hungarian accent echoing off the stone walls. He cursed himself. He should have taken the man's life when he had the element of surprise. Perhaps his years spent alone truly have gotten to his melancholy heart.

Abel

"Tch." Abel clicked his tongue in disappointment. Figures. All that pruning for nothing. There had been no scent of blood for hours, and he had simply hoped the overgrown walls of the mausoleum meant it was empty. Even now there was no blood scent, as something sharp threatened to pierce a hole through the back of his pea coat. This vampire had to have been hiding here long enough for the plants outside to overtake the building.
That means he can't be terribly strong, Abel considered, familiar with the timeline of blood withdrawal through his own experiences. And he might be unfamiliar with this area, with that accent. If I can get us outside, I could probably defend myself with my own hands. Even so, the damp scent of rotten wood behind him kept his body ridged. A small stake to the heart would be enough to kill him wielded by a vampire familiar with violence. His body tensed. Mist escaped his ankles absently as he considered his escape plan. He could simply evaporate and find a new place to rest once he was out of harms way…
But death didn't come immediately.
Perhaps he's too weak… I'd still rather like to claim this mausoleum. Abel turned his head slowly, as to not inspire his captor to stab further, and shifted his eyes back toward the shadowed vampire with a bored expression. There was no light. Even with his stronger senses, it was impossible from this direction to read the stranger's expression. "The feeling is mutual. I prefer a place to stay that's a little more welcoming."

Etele

"If you expect a warm welcome, breaking and entering is not the way to achieve it" Etele replied in a huff.  He could feel the spark of a fight in the air. That would not be preferable in his state. He was to weak, and had no awareness of his surroundings. For all he knew this man was one of many ripping open tombs in search of resting enemies to easily squash. A  house looking to expand their territory by conquering easy prey. I really should have just stabbed him when I had the chance. I could have slipped out quietly and found something to eat at a different time and place.
"Are you alone?", he spoke in an inquiring tone, "I know rats tend to travel in packs. I don't think you to be an exception". He pushed the wooden leg closer to the skin of the intruder. An action to emphasize his demand for a prompt, truthful answer. His hunger was causing a migraine to sprout in his temple. He needed to be done with this quickly before he lost himself to blood lust.

Abel

"Ack! I am no rat, and I have no coven," Abel shifted uncomfortably as the easel pressed deeper into his back. His mind raced. The wood is thin… It must be from something left at a tomb and not broken from the structure of the building. He appreciated the irony of potentially dying to an object made to remember a life.
"I cleared your door," he continued. The door in question, free from overgrown hedges and vines, lay uselessly at their feet. "I thought I was being helpful. Wasn't I?" His tone was a bit too teasing, he knew that was clear, so he redirected.
Mist escaped every patch of skin on his body. His face impossibly lowered in opacity until you could see the building around them, and then Abel was gone completely, clothes and all. The mist shifted in the mausoleum in an impossible breeze. Abel reformed instantly, appearing as a shock from the mist he yielded, this time facing the man. He gripped the rotten wood firmly with sturdy hands. It would be impossible to push it forward into his heart; the attacker would have to tear the wood away and find another angle.
"I am, unfortunately, difficult to stab." Abel gave the other vampire a smile that didn't reach his eyes, "I don't want this to escalate. I'm going to need you to put this down, and leave."
