do you clean your washing machine

a very interesting topic i realise B)

i recently moved out of my parents property and i am discovering the wonderful thing called having a clean house. to put it simply: my parents are not very clean people. consequently i am a fresh 18 year old wondering what the hell i buy in a store because oh my hot jelly there is so much stuff. what do i use bleach for? when? how? bathroom cleaner? what?

anyway. upon moving out i purchased all my own appliances, & ofc i have a washing machine. the washing machine has a "drum clean" function & recommends i use it every 1-2 months.

i can't find washing machine cleaner anywhere in store though fdfjds i am assuming it is not a very common thing?

do you guys clean your washing machine????

I have guinea pigs and use fleece bedding with them. I always make sure to clean the washer after I clean their bedding. I use affresh brand cleaning tablets. You could probably just run an empty cycle with some bleach or some vinegar if you have some of that one hand c:

I clean mine with bleach! My washer has a "tub clean" setting. I pour some bleach in and it's all sparkly fresh afterwards. :> I usually do this after washing dog bedding or gross cleaning cloths and such.

I run about 1/2 cup baking soda and 1 cup white vinegar through mine every 4 months or when it seems like my clothes are keeping residue. Which is a bit easier to tell as we don't use any dryer sheets or fabric softener as it bothers my skin a lot, so there is not left over residue from those things just the detergent.

Pro tip: Keep your washing machine lid open for a while after you use it so it won't get moldy and stinky.

I use a little bit of bleach to clean it and run a cycle with 2 rinses, just to make sure all the bleach is out and won't get on my clothes afterwards.

I don't put my bleach in the soap compartment. I just drop a capful or two, or pour a splash, into the drum itself where the clothing goes :) It doesn't need much!

Each washing machine is a bit different, so there's various ways to clean them. My washer has a "Clean Washer (with affresh) option so I use that without the affresh. My washer has an area you can poor bleach into when you open the lid, so I'll toss in some bleach and run the clean cycle on hot, then leave the lid open for a while so it can air out.

@basenji oo okay! thank you. i might give it a shot

@Malibu hm okay. it def has a drum wash function (which intrigued me) and the manual suggests to wash it every 1-2 months with washing machine cleaner. i can't rlly seem to find that anywhere tho. i'll def do some more digging!!
