Cougarclaw's Spirits are an increasingly large group of wolves with cat-like reflexes and such, evolved to withstand harsh environments. Once from the searing heat of a desert, Cougarclaw's Spirits are bound to return eventually, but seeking cover from the heat, the Spirits moved through the prairie. They settled north of the prairie, their territory becoming that of the border between the deciduous woodlands and the meadows. However, they ended up denning in the center of a battlefield between the Curled Ferns pack of the deciduous forests and the Darkened Pathways of a brutal pack living in the prairie. Unfortunately for the Spirits, these packs continued to battle on the territory, killing countless litters of newborn pups and aged, injured, or sick members of the group. Eventually, the group had been lessened down to three members - alpha female, a young wolf named Wild Runs, an old female beta referred to as Watchful even though her true name was Observant Gaze, and a fairly young adolescent called Cold Nights. The pack had dwindled to numbers so small the territory had fallen to shambles along with the ongoing wars, so the group began to move away. Seeing as the Curled Ferns pack was still at war, and three fourths of their members were fighting and camping out at the war-fields,  the pack sought revenge on their enemies, killing the three elders and five pups, along with the two yearlings from last year's litters. The four sick wolves there, since the herbalist was out foraging, were also killed except for one who was left alive to tell the story, or more because the leftovers of the Spirits had been seen by the alpha and reinforcements were being called. Seeking safety, the three Spirits carried on, but unfortunately for the Spirits the eldest member fell to an infection created from the progressive cold and diseases as the three entered the mountain range. Wild Runs shamed Cold Nights, seeing as Cold was the only wolf who was there to take false blame. However, the tensions continued to rise as three males joined the pack. Wild mated with the youngest, and two runty pups were bore in spring. Cold was left on guard duty as the four other wolves went to hunt. Sadly for the yearling, a large cougar attacked the den and killed the two pups, at least that's how it was thought to go. The cougar wounded Cold brutally, and killed the male pup born of Wild, running off with the other.
Carry on with the Cougar
The cougar ran off, bringing the pup with it. The pup was brought to the cave of the cougar's, far north of the mountains and into the miserable plains of the tundra. Here, the pup was nearly eaten, but unfortunately for the cougar a pack of wolves had moved into the cave and chased the cat off even though they suffered a multitude of claw marks and bites. The pup was only seen by the herbalist when he was checking on everyone there. He took the pup in, even though many wolves protested and the leader was unsure. The pup came to be named Windy Tails, and the herbalist and leader were clear to Windy as Alpha Hiss and Herbalist Bear-claws. Bear raised Windy under chaotic circumstances, the days and nights unrecognizable as the sun ran slowly through the sky, and often the wolves broke into fights. Unbeknownst to young Windy, the fights were over her, since she'd been growing with a rather long tail, huge paws, and slightly curled ears. Perhaps Windy was a cougar herself and the cougar had a cub? Maybe a cub sent in to get revenge as she grew? Or a cougar spying? Though none of these theories were proven right, Bear was shamed and looked down upon for taking in the pup. Windy grew into a yearling, becoming Bear's apprentice, and picking up herbalism quickly. Sadly, Windy's packmates had dug her into such a deep hole it was impossible for the pup to climb out of. Windy was banished soon after she tried treating her first patient but the wolf died of an infection that Bear later confirmed would've been impossible to heal, followed by a guilty leader being overthrown.
Windy, however, didn't know any of this and was cast into the blizzards, and even though she was an accomplished yearling, she fell ill soon, and found herself falling asleep, or more like fainting, in a tiny cave. ... Awakened by a series of loud clashing sounds, Windy was trapped by a severe hail storm in the small cave she'd made. Feeling upset and vengeful, Windy cursed her old pack with the sacred name of the pack's believed ancestors, and changed her name as to not fall with them. Windy Tail became known as Breeze from that day on, and once again she fell to her wounds in the cave, slumped against the wall of the inner mouth.
Carry on with Cold Nights
Cold was still in shock from the attack, bearing a large scar on his nose and another cutting deep into his thigh, by the time Wild returned. She and her comrades were shocked and angry, and Wild, already having a bone to pick with Wild, attacked him. Cold's wounds became worse from the scars, but he was allowed to live and was banished from the pack for the loss of the pups. Cold raced away and northwards, towards the taiga even though he thought he was returning to the prairie. Cold, luckily, bore the thick fur and long tail of Breeze's. He survived long enough to find shelter, sleeping in the small burrow that had been dug by a seemingly large coyote. As the night passed, Cold's wounds became infected. Feeling the urge to leave despite his obvious injuries, Cold left for the plains of the tundra. Days passed as Cold journeyed, and he eventually came to a cave that smelled of wolves. He edged his way in, but was quickly confronted by a large, scarred male who was brown and bore teeth and large claws like a bear. Cold dropped to his belly and wagged his tail tip in submission. The brown wolf ended up backing off and introducing himself as Bear-claws. Cold was accepted into the pack for the time being, and Bear told him stories of a young pup, his specifically, called Windy Tail. He said the pup looked a lot like Cold and was kicked out after the wolves theorized that she was a cougar, seeing as she was brought by a cougar. Cold suspected nothing of the story and lived peacefully with Bear for a couple hours, being treated, until the current leader, a disgustingly cruel wolf named Snarl, an older descendant of a wolf named Hiss, attacked Cold and banished him from the pack for treason, and soon after his banishment Bear-claws was killed for interacting with Cold. Cold ran into the woods just outside, sheltering thirteen miles away underneath a giant tree. He nestled himself into the tree's roots and placed a paw over his face, distracting himself from the pain of his wounds. He fell asleep there, and slept for a long time. When he woke, he looked carefully at the roots of the tree, the ones that had protected him for the day he stayed, and slowly murmured a new name for himself; Tree Root. Never had a tree saved him from anything, but seeing as fresh claw marks lay all over the trunk, he thanked it for shielding him before he walked off. Soon he came upon a cave, seemingly inhabited by the strong scent of wolf, though it was overrun by wound smells, so he lowered himself to the ground despite the suggestive smells.Carry on With the Collision of Their Paths
Breeze slowly looked up, and in the haze of her injuries could barley spot Tree Root crouched on the ground. She let out a mix of a whine and a growl, pulling herself closer into the wall. Tree Root noticed Breeze's wounds and perhaps an infection much like his own, and stood up, approaching in a quicker manner. Breeze let out another growl but didn't move, so Tree Root proceeded to clean the injury the best he could before he even spoke. Breeze hazily introduced herself, and Tree Root did the same before asking what he could do. Breeze, since she was apprenticed to Bear for some time, quietly told him of the herbs needed before Tree Root quickly set out for them. His wounds most definitely worsened in the blizzard that raged, but he managed to successfully treat Breeze.

                                                                                    -.-^    ^-.-

A few nights passed. Breeze was better, Tree Root was progressively healing, and the two were ready to set off as soon as Tree Root was fully healed. Eventually, he did, and the pack of two journeyed farther north than many wolves had even survived, let alone found a home, hunted in, and set up a working, lively pack in, but that's pretty much exactly what the two did. Soon after they'd found their first pack members, a litter of pups were born to Breeze, and Cougarclaw's Spirits began to prosper.

LEADERS OF THE SPIRITS
Breeze - Founder of Cougarclaw's Spirits, Cougar's Spirit I
Lore - Breeze padded through the snow, thick tail swishing as snow fell heavily, along with the occasional whack of hail against her side, which caused both her and her mate respectively let out a snarl when hit. Hence the wolves were covered in a layer of bluish stains on their skin though the bruises were shielded by two heavy coats of fur and a short water-repellant layer of fluff below. Tree Root, her comrade, trotted in the snow behind her, ears pinned against the side of his skull as he walked. A sharp piece of hail punctured Breeze's flank as it plummeted down from the side, causing her to yelp. Tree Root quickly plucked it out of her side and licked the leaking blood away. ': Breeze, we can't keep going on like this. We need somewhere to stay, especially since we're expecting pups soon and... :' Tree Root snarled in sudden pain as a chunk of hail pelted his side. ': This is proof, Breeze. We need somewhere to stay, at least until the pups have come or this treacherous weather stops. :' Breeze released a deep sigh and paused, dropping her head and whipping her tail back and forth anxiously. ` ` Incase you haven't noticed, Tree Root, there aren't any spaces to stop yet, even if the pups will be coming soon. We've got no other option except for to keep moving forwards, unless you plan on constructing an igloo to shield us? And even then, it'll probably collapse from this hail. Haven't you seen how big they are? ` ` Breeze bent down and grabbed the huge chunk of ice in her maw. Tree Root shook his head. ': Breeze, we desperately need shelter. We can carry on until nightfall but then we really need to stop somewhere. Maybe a cave or I'll build that igloo. :' Breeze cracked a tiny smile, though the expression was wiped off her muzzle as soon as another piece of hail plummeted from the sky and smacked into her snow-clad sides. She snarled and pressed against her comrade, protecting her flanks as much as she could. ` ` You know, I think it's time for that igloo, ` ` she muttered. Tree Root quietly nudged his mate downwards, covering what he could of her with dirt and snow, before he set to work. Breeze hardly shifted, trying to save what little energy she was left with as she lay. Tree Root was struggling with the snow, forming half a wall before it collapsed. He eventually gave up with a growl, shaking his head, and walked over to his mate, curling himself up with his back pressed against hers, tail curled over his nose.

                                                                                    - . - ^    ^ - . -

Breeze tucked the two tiny bodies of her newborn pups into her tail, hiding out in the small cave Tree Root had discovered. It had been three days since the Great Journey, as Breeze and Tree Root called it, and they'd met a young yellow-orange wolf named Sprouted, who volunteered to be their herbalist, and three other wolves - Bark of the Trees, Olive, and Opossum, who volunteered to be the hunters, joined by Tree Root. Breeze experienced the joy of a pack, as the group of cougar-like wolves grew larger, joined by her two new pups. Breeze was clearly the leader of the group, since she'd already begun to organize the group. Breeze rested her muzzle against her two furballs of pups, confident this pack would be successful.

Reserved for War with Fury of the Lost

The Beginnings
First Encounter
Splatter yawned and stretched, shaking her fur out. Twitch lay next to her, along with Moon of Ice and Blue-Eyed. She glanced down at Twitch and gave him a single lick on the head before trotting away, tail wagging as high as she could let it without offending Breeze. She walked out of the hunting hallway and into the snowy lands, stretching again and letting out another yawn. She then huffed and walked off, ears pinned against her head as she whipped her tail back and forth. It wasn't many times like this that she could go and walk off, but with her entire hunting party being aggressive and getting along either so much Splatter wasn't included properly or they argued so much it would escalate to a full-out fight, it was quite peaceful. Splatter also despised Slash of Pink, so it was quite refreshing to get a break from the party. She walked along the edge of the glacier's cliff, deftly leaping across small breaks in the glacier, and onto trees when needed. A couple snow leopards could be spotted, but they didn't bother Splatter and she didn't bother them. Eventually, after a while when the cliffside veered inwards, Splatter found herself walking right next to one with cubs, and even though the mother was very cautious and stuck herself between Splatter and the cubs and kept her eye on Splatter the entire time, Cougarclaw Spirits had never attacked a snow leopard, so they were seemingly fine with the Spirits. Soon Splatter came to the border with a strange new pack though it smelled familiar, and she bent her head down to sniff the line of marks. She walked along the edge of it until she reached the small bend of a river that indicated it would be too warm for Splatter to last long if she travelled further south, so she turned back, planning on reporting her discoveries to Breeze, when she was bowled over and teeth were sunk into her shoulder, though they hardly pierced skin. Splatter thrashed and kicked out sharply with her leg, allowing her claws to be curled and showing, landing a good yet shallow cut in the middle of the attacker's stomach. The attacker backed off quickly, glancing at his flank before turning back to Splatter with a hiss. -+ Who are you, and why do you dare attack one of Cougarclaw's Spirits? +- Splatter snarled, stalking the attacker in a circle. The attacker merely laughed and stretched as Splatter walked. . Ah, the "Spirits". I thought it was you. Good to see you, Splatter. . The attacker said. Splatter halted, ears pricking curiously. -+ How do you know my name, intruder? +- The attacker bristled a little at the word "intruder" but responded in a clear, calm voice, . I am Brown's mate. In case you haven't noticed, when your cursed alpha Br- . the attacker was interrupted as Splatter leapt at him and managed to land a good blow on his right eye before the attacker could fight her off. However, despite nearly half-blinding him, Splatter had also taken a severe cut to the already wounded shoulder that blurred her vision to the point where she could see red in the corners of her eyes. . Where was I? Ahh, yes, when your cursed alpha Breeze chased my mate out of her territory to accommodate for that loner Autumn's Cry, she forgot to wound Brown and declaw her. Fortunately for us, I met her and we survived winter. And, just so you know... . - Splatter's eyes widened as she noticed a couple frosty eyes peering from her from the bushes behind the attacker - . ...you and the rest of you dumb "Spirits" are doomed. Before you die, my name is Dark Fury, and your pack's territory and pups will be a good addition to mine. . Dark Fury stood and walked over so his face was inches from Splatter's. . And, your fur will be a lovely edition to my mate's nest. Now! . Dark Fury suddenly shrieked, and those frosty eyes from earlier leapt out of the trees and tackled Splatter, who let out three loud yelps of pain before she clawed the air blankly, tearing a couple wolves' skin before she collapsed under the weight of her attackers. For a second, she blacked out, then woke to the sounds of snarling and cat-like hisses. Had her packmates come to save her? She blearily looked up before she was once again attacked, though a leopard pushed the attacker off. Three cubs stood watching their mother fight, or more like, one cub sat quivering, pinned by Dark Fury while the two other cubs lay dead. Splatter recognized the leopard; the one whose cubs she'd walked with earlier. The leopard let out a low roar, and Splatter realized it wouldn't let out another. She raced toward Dark Fury and snagged the cub out of his grasps, before darting the rest of the way home, though the wounds to her shoulder and now her head and spine blurred her vision so she nearly ran off the cliff before stopped by Slash of Pink. Splatter could recognize that coat from anywhere; her foe and the other members of the party were clearly insanely worried. Twitch stepped up. (-": Splatter- Splatter, what happened? :"-) Splatter let out a wail of distress, at which made Breeze, Sprouted, and Tree Root exit in confusion that quickly turned to horrible realization. ` ` Splatter! What were you doing by yourself and why do you bear so many wounds? ` ` Breeze cried as she ran over to her wounded packmate, who let out a shaky response as she curled her paw around the snow leopard's cub, who let out a cry of misery. -+ A mate named Dark Fury! Monsters! M-murderous vengeance! +- {From whom?} Tree Root asked in a slightly panicked voice. -+ Brown! Brown is back, and she's out for the Spirits' blood! +-First Raid
Olive licked the cub's cheek and wagged her tail lowly, before she lowered her front into a play-bow and wagged her tail at the cub, who let out a gleeful whine and nipped Olive on the nose. Olive jumped back and let out a fake, dramatic whimper as the cub jumped at Olive's shoulder, and she pretended to fall over. Quickly she looked back up and let out a chuckle. * Good one, Saturn, * she purred, standing up again. * Anyways, I think Splatter wants to see you before your bedtime. Now, run along, * Olive said, nudging Saturn forwards as she watched the snow leopard cub scamper off. Olive then turned around and walked out of the P/A den, trotting over to see Breeze. * Hey, do you smell that? Like the scent on Splatter when she came back from... * Breeze cut her off, and it was just then that Olive noticed how troubled and panicked Breeze looked. She'd never seen her alpha like this. ` ` Olive, get the adolescents and pups into the den! Every last one! ` ` Breeze flicked her tail around and pushed seven newborn pups to Olive, who quickly swooped them up and ran back around the corner. She swiftly set the seven pups down in the newest bush that had begun growing, which was still large and full of brambles that pricked Olive as she pushed the pups in. Even through her thick fur, it hurt like a porcupine's quill, so she was sure no wolf would be able to get them. Olive darted over to the adolescents, who were hiding in the biggest one, and picked Deep Eyes up by his scruff. The adolescent let out an agitated growl, but didn't complain as Olive shoved him into the small bush and small red wells of blood began to sprinkle his fur. Instead, he curled around the seven pups without being told. Olive gave him a quick nod before she walked over to the bush the adolescents huddled in and hushed them. Eyes of the River was standing guard by the thickets Dark Shine and Mossy Creek crouched in, crouching in front of her future mate and friend and allowing her sharp claws to dig so deep into the cave's floor Olive thought the ground would crack. Breeze was standing right outside the den, gathering up the hunters and pupsitters, while Sprouted, Red-Eyes, and White Nose busily began to hide each other and a couple wolves in mud and rock, trying to make it so that they could ambush the attackers when they began to attack. Only a couple wolves, specifically the most experienced (all of Blue Snow and the First hunting parties, Breeze, Brook, Olive herself, and Eyes since she refused to leave her post as a guard) were undisguised. A couple wolves took positions in the P/A den while even more guarded the entrance and a few more lay by the only way to get out and in the cave without the wolves' claws and tail to balance, which Brown didn't have. Breeze centered Sprouted, Red-Eyes, White Nose, and Raven's Eye in the Stream through Rocks while the rest followed Breeze into the middle of the Cave of Hunters.
Tension rose as the scents grew closer. Suddenly there were loud thuds and sounds of snarling; half the wolves whipped around and immediately began to fight. Dark Fury had lead half the attackers off the glacier and onto the cliffs, and though most suffered pieces of ice and rock in their pads or a couple shallow cuts they were surprisingly okay. Meanwhile, Brown had shown up this time and lead the other half through the tunnel, and while her warriors immediately dove into battle, Brown walked right up to Breeze and the two began talking in a series of aggressive snarls, clawing, hissing, and low, challenging barks. Olive was suddenly bowled over by a icy-colored wolf, and she let out a loud cry of surprise as the wolf bit her neck. Olive could hardly breathe as the wolf's jaws closed around her tightly; she shot out both back legs at the same time and let out an angry hiss as she felt her claws penetrate the wolf's fur and skin and shove him off. The attacker let out a faint cry but instantly ran Olive over again. Olive wailed deeply as the wolf bit so hard into her spine she could see neon red, and struggled to her paws and thrashed around wildly, claws rooted into the cave. The wolf, unprepared for the sudden movement, let out a yelp before he was tossed into the large ocean and died upon impact with the water. Olive watched in horror as Oceanic's uniform glow slowly rose toward the surface and dragged the wolf under. Olive would've ran to help Brook, Breeze, or Bright Eyes or someone, but she was bowled over by yet another wolf. This wolf's eyes were crazed as she bit down sharply on Olive's neck, once again. Olive cried out and squirmed under the wolf's grip, but the weight was knocked off quickly. Eyes of the River was biting down on the attacker, and slowly the attacker ceased to move until a couple gurgling sounds met Olive's ears and Eyes threw her off the cliff. Olive's eyes were wide with horror; the attackers began to run off, dragging with them food, trophies, the fox's tail, tons of herbs and even a single pup, much to the terror of Autumn's Cry since it was one of hers.
However, the attackers were almost immediately lost to the shadows as the mother ran out to catch her pup, and she let a couple futile wails of mourning ring in the air before Sprouted ushered her into his den. Breeze was panting as she looked at the chaos.
` ` We've got.. a lot to do. Better get to it.. before they come back again. ` `
