Lord Haurchefant was once a mortal man and the only son of a powerful count, born of a union between his noble father and a maid. His mother gave birth to him and then mysteriously disappeared soon after. His stepmother never made his life easy and while she had no choice that this reminder of her husband's dailliances was a part of the household.. it did not mean she had to accept him in private. It was assumed he would assume his place as head of the family when his father passed away or when he was married. As a zealous and adventure seeking man, he often liked to hunt in the woods near their land. One day he decided to aid in a bounty against a rather strangely large and aggressive boar. He managed to dispatch the boar, but his leg was torn open by its tusks and his own men scattered like startled birds when the creature charged.
He might have died in the woods alone that day if not for the encounter with a beautiful female druid named Tamaryllis. She had been out gathering herbs when she felt the lifeforce leave the boar and was drawn to the groans of pain from Haurchefant. The moment their eyes met.. it was love at first sight. It took several days but she managed to heal him enough that he could return home, promising to come get her once he spoke to his father. But the conversation turned against him, when his stepmother saw an opportunity to make him suffer and be miserable and convinced his father this druid woman had bewitched his son and he should be forbidden from being near her,that he might " recover" from her evil magic.
So he was locked in his rooms to " detox" from this enchantment. He was heartbroken.. but determined that nothing was going to separate him from his love and he felt very betrayed by the father he loved so very much. It was enough so that he scaled out the window and down the castle walls to flee to the woods and into the welcoming arms of his true love. They ran away together and made a quiet but happy life in the woods for nearly a decade and bore three children in that time, the youngest a newborn.
Unfortunately, his father had never given up searching for him and he was found by the men his father sent and his wife and he were subdued and bound. His children were shown no mercy, even the baby and were dispatched before the pair as punishment for their "sins." Taken back to the hold, they were locked in seperate cells across from one another, to be executed at dawn, as the countess, via dark magics of her own, had bore a son and no longer was Haurchefant needed. In a plea to save their souls, his beloved wife cast her final spell that allowed their souls to leave their bodies and be reborn into an animal spirit.
Once he was a young pup, having been reborn as a wolf, his memories all came back to him and he spent the bulk of his puppyhood searching for his lost love. During this time, he was being trained to replace the pack's current stud. He managed to find his beloved soulmate during a hunt one night and she joined his pack and they were together once again and nothing would ever separate them.. not even death itself.
When Nascent Flames united under the watchful eyes of Nephele, Haurchefant was there to support his new leader, even lending his self out to breed to other females to form bonds and alliances within blood ties to their pack. This only strengthened the pack, as they had risen like a phoenix from the ashes of defeat to the good place they are today. But regardless of having seeded other females, his loyalty and love was fully to his mate Tamaryllis. It was to her he came back to sleep at night and the one wolf he actually bred with out of pure love and adoration.
But his bones were growing weary, even after he stepped down as a hunter and spent his days training the pack's pups. He knew he was approaching death.. and so did his beloved lady. It was then she came home one night with two strangely glowing jellyfish. " Eat this my dearest heart and we will never be apart again." She said and he was so very touched... and noticing she had been in heat once more, they united in love for one last litter. He then gulped down the jellyfish and his pains and aches of age vanished.. and he was like a young wolf again. Taking his place beside his beloved mate, he protects her and their final litter with every fiber of his being, awaiting the day when she can join him and they can watch their children grow.
