Pack and wolf names are in ᏣᎳᎩ ᎦᏬᏂᎯᏍᏗ (Tsalagi Gawonihisdi; "Cherokee language"). The pack name means "Bone Guardians", a reference to Aztec artifacts and potential mythology. Wolf names as written in the syllabary are in their bios along with translations. Caves are alphabetized by the first 10 letters of the Tsalagi syllabary - a, e, i, o, u, v, ga, ge, gi, go - and cave names as written in the syllabary are in their descriptions along with translations. I am mixed Tsalagi & Mexican and reconnecting with my indigenous heritage by learning the languages, values, mythos, and traditional handcrafts and cooking.
Tsalagi Gawonihisdi was declared an endangered-to-moribund language by UNESCO in 2019. UNESCO's steps towards preventing language extinction include supporting, promoting, and preserving the language in education, culture, communication, information, science, and more.
Note on pronunciation: In Tsalagi Gawonihisdi, "v" is a vowel that says "uh". The other vowels are pronounced "ah" (a), "ey" (e), "ee" (i), "oh" (o), and "oo" (u). Consonants are pronounced much like they are in English. "G" is always soft as in "goose", and "ts" as in "tsunami" can be pronounced "ch" if you struggle with the sound. "Y" is always a consonant, never a vowel. An apostrophe indicates a glottal stop, like the hyphen in "uh-oh".
