Wing Pack

You near a tall rock, decorated with feathers, shells, and the odd egg. Prey items and bones litter it nearby and a single, old wolf scratches at the ground. They say nothing as you approach and read the writings.

Fledgling Flight(Year 0 - ???): "Alone, and chased away, Red-Tail searched far and wide to start her own Pack. Her traditions were old, and not many upheld them anymore. This, coupled with the inability to birth healthy pups, made the old Lead decide to disband, and the main pair left the Pack, now presumed dead. But this place - this large expanse of fields gave Red-Tail hope. Pheasants and turkeys flew and waddled, ducks quacked off in the distance, and other small birds began to sing and stir. Winter was at its wit's end and all signs pointed to a prosperous life."

Strong Winds (Year ??? - Year 9): "The old lead passed, and a new one was appointed on her dying breath: the granddaughter of Red-Tail, known commonly as Bat. As the runt of her litter, she showed her prowess through duty than strength, and the wise, old wolf saw great potential. Others flocked, and they prospered, as winters fell and summers rose, with each passing day, more trust was put on her, and a sense of ease filled the pack. A new discovery occured then, too, as pups as dark as a sorrowful night were born, who, too, showed great potential.Yet the wolf whose fur changed as he grew - from browns to soft pinks - was the one she appointed to lead the pack again as the Spring breeze finally settled back in..."

Perilous Journeys (Year 9 - TBD): "Rough-Legged knew this newfound power would be rough to manage. Yet he never expected that those who howled at midnight would be so troublesome... During his life, he set up new laws to protect both the Wing Pack and the rebellious opponents that threatened everything his fimaly worked for."

The scratches in the dirt trail off here, still vague in shape. The wolf seems to still be writing it down. Perhaps this is the present?

Naming Scheme: Every Packmate's name is the common name of different bird species, occasionally edited to fit with the wolf theme. A wolf's name has two parts: the nickname (shown in-between '') and the family name. The family name is the type of bird (e.g. Falcon), and the nickname is the specific bird within that genus (e.g. 'Peregrine'). Wolves that are close to each other usually only address one another by the nickname, but if they're talking to a higher rank or a wolf they barely know, they use the full name.

Traditions: There aren't many traditions, but the two most important are the following: 'A bird must never be harmed or eaten.' and 'If the corpse of a bird is found, it must be given a proper burial.' Failure to uphold these traditions will result in punishment. Other miscellaneous habits would be that pups tend to be in the same genus as one of the parents' (although not always) and if a wolf gives another feathers, they show they value said wolf as much as a bird; it's commonly used to confess their love but some use it to strengthen their friendships or bonds with their pups.

Herbalist: Herbalists work for those in need and are required to remain unbiased. The Herbalist may choose who to train and they can only have 1 apprentice at a time and never any more. Who that apprentice is is at the discretion of the Herbalist and they have the right to choose whomever they wish, regardless of pack.

Breeding Male: As the pack split into multiple segments when it was trife with distrust and anger, the Breeding Male took a more diplomatic role. Similar to the Herbalist, who works for all, the Breeding Male was tasked with maintain order and stability between the three denominations. They are to be impartial and whenever one days (or is ovethrown), a new one is chosen from the pack that has not had a male since the last 2.

Hunters: Hunters hunt for the pack. Everyone has the option to eat from their kills. Each hunting party is named after different types of birds, like the Songbirds, Hummingbirds, and Raptors. Any Hunter found to have injured a bird is to be punished.
