Bear with us here... This is going to be big. Possibly our biggest news post ever!

2 Year Anniversary!

On the 19th October 2020 we opened Wolvden to the public.  Today we're celebrating our 2 year anniversary - and what a year it's been!

This time last year we celebrated our very first anniversary since public opening. It's been another year since then, and we'd love to share with you our plans for the future, walk you through the updates we've had this year, and hopefully surprise you with one heck of a massive update!

The Rundown

As we'll be covering a significant amount of content in this news post, we've broken it down into sections so you can quickly scan through to find what you'd like to read first.

Looking Back - an overview of updates and new features we've had over the past year.
Looking Forward - plans for the future and what we have in store!
The Meat - all of the stuff in today's massive update!
Anniversary Gift - a bundle you can claim!
Anniversary Raffles - special raffles in honour of today!
Thank You - as always, we must extend our thanks to all of you

Looking Back

We've had another productive year of updates, bug fixes, and quality of life changes! This has included our very first full month event - Coigreach - and even our second - Cataclysms - which arrived earlier this year!

Below are a link to all the development updates we've had in the last year, including the full month events, with links to their respective news posts:

Event: Coigreach
Update 14: Care Overhaul & Remnants
Update 15: Remnants Adjustments, Shredding & Craftable Decors
Update 16: Relaxed Variant, Encounters & Adjustments
Update 17: Clans
Update 18: Multiple Hunts
Update 19: Inbreeding, Stat Cap Adjustments, Raffle Protection & Lead Immortality
Event: Cataclysms
Event Quest Adjustments (Cataclysms)
Update 20: Priority Stats & Levelling

We have also crushed numerous bugs, tackled many server issues, and spent lots of time being busy behind the scenes to make sure everything ticks over nicely!

Looking Forward

Last year in our anniversary post we posted a big list of features we had planned for the year, and we happily achieved almost all of them. Just a couple of things we didn't manage to squeeze in until now, but they are still planned in advance, along with some other things that we have laid out below.

Mini games.  We have quite a few in mind and hope to release these soon!

More explore content. As always, we want to flesh out explore to be as fresh and exciting as possible. Expect more encounters and interactions over the year!

The introduction of a karma system, and all its associated unique encounters and titles it brings!  Sadly, something we didn't manage to squeeze in last year, but something we are very hopeful to include this year.

More in depth content in relation to wolf personality and relationships between pack members. Also something we weren't able to tackle last year. We need to be very mindful of balance and to make sure the extra additions don't disrupt existing pack harmonies.

Halloween Excitement.  A small, mini event to get you in the spooky mood! Coming on Monday the 24th October 2022.

Coigreach Extension.  As time draws closer to November and the return of our Coigreach event, it'll soon be time for our extension to the event - with new decorations, applicators, and even an extended storyline.

Event #3.  Plans for our third full month event to come out next year!

Event #4.  Plans for our fourth full month event to come out next year!

Event #5.  We can't promise this for certain, but we would very much like to try and deliver event number five next year as well!

Nesting Pose.  A new pose for female wolves that are nested.

More Variants.  More variants for your wolves!

More Mutations.  We have a lot of different mutation ideas planned to come your way!

More Achievements.  We have so many ideas for achievements that can be included and we hope to add them in throughout the coming year.

The Meat

Well, we did warn you it was going to be a long news post...

Talents & Talent Trees

Talents are here!  We're excited to introduce 35 sparkling new potential modifications to your game experience.

Talent points are awarded for each level your lead wolf gains, starting at level 5.  At level 20, you will have 16 talent points to spend on any of the talents in the tree.  Your talents can be reset - once per week for 100 SC, but after that first time it will cost 1 GC.  The weekly reset on this fee is on Mondays at Rollover time.  When you retire, your talents will be reset1.

Some talents are restricted by level themselves, and some have a hierarchy - meaning you must select the previous talents to access the ones lower down in the branch.

The talents are all related to gameplay - battling, breeding, hunting, scouting and so on.  They are intended to be an aid to the game, as well as adding a new twist on things.

To balance the introduction of battle talents, there are also a few small changes in battling:
* when low on HP and hit hard, opponents can sometimes Enrage instead of Panicking, which makes them more difficult to Latch or Wait out;
* enemies can sometimes break free from Latch by dealing damage, in the same way that the Player can use "Snap";
* high level opponents had their HP increased slightly;
* it's no longer possible to gain more HP in battle than you started with.

Please note: this is the first iteration, we may need to tweak them to ensure they are balanced so please keep an eye on future news posts for any changes!

1 -  There is a set of talents that increases your pack size.  If you have these selected, and wouldn't have the territory space when you retire, those talents will be forced into the new lead wolf's talents.  This may put your talent points into negatives if your new lead wolf is too low level.

Dynasty Equipping

As promised in our last development update, we have now put in a feature that enables wolves that go into the dynasty to keep their decor and backgrounds equipped! Not only this, but they can be found in the equipper to add new pieces of decor or backgrounds to them!

Dynasty Wolf with Decors

From the Dynasty > Immortality

Not only can dynasty wolves have decors and backgrounds equipped to them, but they can now have the Jellyfish item used on them! This will resurrect them out of the dynasty and bring them back to life as an immortal wolf.

New Mutations

At long last, we are going ahead and adding more mutations! We have a total of three that have been added today.

The first are Hereditary Cataracts - this is a mutation that is recessive (thus, genetic!) and can be passed down in breeding programs. Sadly, wolves with this mutation may not take on any roles or complete training.

Spontaneous Blindness is the next one - this mutation acts very similarly to Hereditary Cataracts, except it is a random mutation and not genetically linked. This can appear in breeding randomly!

Deafness is the third one. There is no visual change to wolves that have the Deafness mutation, but they do unfortunately have similar limitations to the two other new mutations coming in today. However, wolves with Deafness can still take on scouting and herbalism roles.

All three mutations added in today are Secondary Mutations.

Identical Twins

Whilst not quite a mutation, every litter now has a small chance of producing identical twins! When this happens, an extra puppy will be born in the litter, ending up a complete copy of another puppy - from everything such as bases, markings, eyes, etc., all the way up to stats, personality, and even mutations.  It also means that 7 puppy litters are now possible!

Identical Twin Badge
Identical Twin Tracker

Identical Twins will receive a little badge beside their sex like runts do. Additionally, their identical twin is tracked throughout their life so you can easily find both of them, down in the wolf's Birth Information panel.

Traveling Wolf System

We took note of the feedback that you guys happily provided in the comments of this news post. We have implemented a traveling wolf system from today!

First of all, this feature is entirely optional, and is opt in - in order to utilise it, you have to enable it in your profile settings:

Enable Travelers

Once this is enabled, you can go to an individual wolf's page to set them as a Traveler. This is not a normal role - it is, instead, a secondary role, which means that travelers can also be hunters, scouts, herbalists, etc. You can have a maximum of five travelers set at any one time, but can host (receive from other players) an unlimited number of traveling wolves. The traveling panel is found on the wolf's setting tab, below Secure / Chase.

Traveling Panel

Once a traveling wolf has been enabled as such, it can only be sent to other players as a Gift. Additionally, the player it is being sent to has to have the traveling wolf system enabled on their account. This means that players that don't want to participate in traveling wolves don't ever have to get involved in them.

Once a wolf is sent to another player via a gift, the player receiving the wolf becomes the 'host'. The host is responsible for caring for the wolf and can train it, put it into roles, etc. If the wolf isn't cared for and runs away, when it leaves the pack it will appear in the owner's (and not the host's) runaway wolves section, and won't return back to the host. However, if an owner notices that the traveler is not being cared for in the way they wish, they can hit 'Recall Wolf' on the wolf's page to return it back to their pack. The only time that this cannot be done is if the traveler is nursing puppies or pregnant - as doing so would take the puppies away, and those belong to the host!

On the subject of breeding - owners of traveling wolves may choose to enable their traveler as 'Breedable' or not before it is sent out. If the wolf is set to be Breedable, then hosts may breed the wolf with any wolves of their choice. The puppies will belong to the host and not be recoverable by the owner.

Hosts are able to equip decors, change decor layer orders, and equip a background (if one is not already equipped), but cannot remove any. There's no pressure for a host to do so - but if they want to, they can help decorate a traveler through their journey. In the same vein - hosts are able to use marking applicators or marking opacity changers on wolves, but cannot use any other applicators or customise them.

Hosts may edit names, bios, footnotes and roles on travelers (and in some instances may even be able to form pairbonds with other wolves in their pack with them!). Owners may edit the name and bio of the traveling wolf at any time, even if it's not currently in their pack.

When a host is ready to move the wolf on to a new player, they can do so by gifting - to anyone of their choice, and not necessarily back to the owner. Owners, however, can recall the wolf at any time (minus if the wolf is pregnant or nursing!), so if a traveler ends up with a player the owner might not want, they can simply bring it back to their pack.

If a host changes their mind and doesn't want to gift the wolf on, they can chase the wolf. Chasing it will not wipe the traveler or send it into the wild - it will instead return to the owner's pack if the owner has space for it, or into their runaway wolves if they don't. The responsibility will be on the owner to reclaim it within 3 rollovers, as if it is a wolf that has ran away from the pack.

Finally, a list of wolves an owner has set as travelers can be found from the name dropdown on the currency bar:

Traveling Overview

This will allow owners of traveling wolves to keep tabs on how they're doing.

We hope those who enjoy traveling wolves will love this feature!

Recall Hunts, Cancelling Medicine Mixing, & Cancelling Foraging

Similarly to Scouting, you can now recall your hunting parties and foraging sessions, as well as cancel Medicine Mixing.

These will not restore the energy of the wolf taken to begin these tasks, and cancelling a medicine will not return the herbs to your hoard.  You can only cancel the mixing of medicines you know the recipes of, learning a new recipe cannot be cancelled.

Custom Decor Previewer

For all of you custom decor lovers out there, we know that many of you have been asking for this one for a while. We are pleased to give you the ability to preview custom decors on your own wolves, straight from a custom decor's page.

Clicking the "View on Wolf" button will launch the same preview window as before, only now with a new dropdown menu. This dropdown menu will show you all of your wolves that fit the particular stage or variant that you are previewing. Keep in mind that this will not show any currently equipped decors.

Custom Decor Previewer

Hide Friends List

You can now hide your Friends list from public view, just in case you want to keep them private!  Visit your account settings and you'll see a new checkbox to enable this.

Minor Hoard Additions

A couple of small additions have been made to the Hoard interface. The first is a handy display of your total number of food uses and amusement uses, located at the top of your Hoard. This way you can see at a quick glance your overall stock of care items.

The second addition is a "Select All on Page" button at the bottom of your Hoard. No more having to select everything on the page one at a time!

When you first press the button, anything not selected will be selected (even if it's only one unchecked box). If you press it again while everything is selected, it will unselect everything for you.

New Breed Only Bases

We're introducing four new breed only bases for tier III in each of the dark colour categories.
- Blueschist, Cool Dark III
- Corrundum, Warm Dark III
- Hornfels, Muted Dark III
- Iron, Monochrome Dark III

Anniversary Gift

We are releasing an Anniversary Bundle with some special Anniversary items which will be available to collect from today, the 19th October 2022 up until the 23rd October 2022.  It will be one bundle per member, and the items will be bound to your account.  The place to collect this will be on the main News page!

A big thank you to all of the volunteer moderators who have worked tirelessly over the last year to keep Wolvden safe for us all. From handling player disputes, banning trolls and preventing rulebreaking, the moderators have done an incredible job in keeping Wolvden a welcoming and warm place to be, and we can't thank you enough. We're honoured to have you with us.

Our community administrators who have spent so long helping guide the moderators, handle emails and keep everything on track - we thank you deeply, and we couldn't have done it without you.

To the artists - including our new artists, who joined us over the last year - who have spent hour after hour designing and creating such beautiful artwork to grace the game: we thank you, Wolvden truly wouldn't be what it is without your creativity, passion, and skill.

To our developers, who have spent many sleepless nights fixing, fiddling and overhauling entire systems just to get it right and keep the cogs of the Wolvden wheels going over the year. Thank you for doing what you do, and keeping the game running.

To our writers, who have come up with and plotted some of the most incredible ideas this year, and poured hours of work into compelling storylines, interesting encounters and intriguing riddles... Thank you. Your originality and vision has helped direct our events and encounters and we can't wait to see what comes next.

And finally, to all of our players, from the players that have been with us from the very beginning to the players that have joined us as soon as today: thank you for being here, thank you for playing our game, and thank you for being the community we love. Your feedback, input and suggestions always amaze us, and we can't thank you all enough for spending your free time with us.
