whispers in the swamp

pack hierarchy

King Crypt - the first wolf in many centuries to rule the Crypt Keeper's domain. Crypt formed a pack, Tales from the Crypt, who's roots are influenced by the ancient Crypt Keeper.

The Council - A select group of wolves from the pack who offer advice to the leader. These wolves also strive to keep the peace between Crypt and the spirits of the swamp.

The Beta - Crypt's ability to trust is almost nonexistent, except when it comes to his beta. Nosferatu has proven to be reliable, dedicated and has saved the pack many times from any rash decision that Crypt might make. A beta will quickly come to realize that the King has quite a combative personality.

The Delta - This rank is beneath the beta. The wolf with the title offers insight and support to those above it. While Devil of the Bayou, the only current delta, is trusted by Nosferatu he has yet to be totally trusted by the Crypt Keeper.

pack tales

Reincarnated Swamp Spirits - Occasionally you might find that some wolves within the pack have been reborn. King Crypt himself and his heir, Corpus, are the best examples of this. There is an unspoken but well understood law in the swamp that you respect the ancient and intricate ways of this domain. There is more than meets the eye with these lands.

from the crypt

A Worthy Bloodline - Crypt knows that he will not live forever, his search for a worthy heir is never ending. By the laws of the pack, and the swamp, any wolf to rule the pack must be a blood relative to King Crypt. His dedication to an appropriate heir for the pack is lethal, Crypt will often kill off those he does not find worthy.

Centuries ago a curious little wolf pup fell from the gentle jaws of his mother while she carried him over a fallen log. This logged perched itself between the crook of two standing trees somewhat 10ft off the ground. She had done this before, with an earlier litter, and it was apart of the packs ritual to move from place to place. Whatever had made her drop the boy she never did quite know… but the guilt, despair and restless anguish she experienced never ceased. His little dark eyes peered up at her through the splash of murky water, soft paws flailing against the sky. His small body sank quickly as he began inhaling water and became entangled with the stems of dense lily pads, overwhelmed by the thick clumps of moss and how difficult it was to see in the water. His little self was no match for powers of this bayou.

A tremor was felt throughout the bed of the waters. It was night and all the alligator's started hissing, looking for a way out of the water as quickly as they could swim. A hoot owl screeched and rested on a limb above the spot in the water where it bubbled and glowed. The swamp was filled with an odd scent and as the small black form of a pup covered with moss, vines and slime was revealed from its depths, the owl no longer wondered what a centuries old corpse might smell like. The bird peered curiously at the pup from the high ground, "You've been resurrected, Corpus."

Crypsis Lore

Rising tall from the depths of the dark, murky waters the bald cypress tree is a symbol of strength within the swamp. These tree's often have moss hanging off them, stuck to the bark of each tree, an egret resting nearby as a pelican can be seen some ways off; a serene swamp scene.

There has been a tale told for centuries and passed down by generations within the swamp about the bald cypress tree. In particular those that reach 100-150 feet in height. The legend goes that deep within its swaddling arms of branches and moss and leaves - down into the base of its mighty trunk - is a place so perfect for a little wolf pup. It is a place not touched by light, bugs or creatures of any kind.

Few have seen this kind of magic at play and even fewer have ever seen a wolf pup born from such a manner. It is both the ultimate sacrifice and gift from the swamp unto its inhabitants if one should ever see a wolf pup, who might look like the rest and be quite usual, walk these lands of which it was born from.
