Does my wolf die if I don't manually retire and immortalize it?

So I have always been sad about my lead dying. But this is my very first Lead. So then I joined and I've been around. Just now the update released that you can immortalize Leads, and I am over the moon.
So now I am wondering;
I have a Jellyfish and I am saving up for a spot. What happens if I just let him turn eight? Does he die?
Or do I have to manually retire him to be able to immortalize him?
Eight seems like such a nice age (it's my favorite number LOL) but I'm afraid if I don't manually retire it, I can't immortalize it and I don't want to ruin this oppurtunity lol.
Any help would be appreciated ^^ 		Spirit

My understanding is that you can only immortalise them if they don't die before, but I haven't had a lead wolf die after the latest dev update, so I can't say for sure. You might want to modbox this question since it can have a large impact on your gameplay and involves premium currency, so it's important the answer you get is 100% correct. If you do, please share the answer here so other players who are in the same situation in the future can find the answer here. :) 		Eelai

I think you're right! You have to manually retire your lead in order to immortalize them!
Otherwise, I think the new-lead-choosing screen will pop up when they die and you won't get an opportunity to do it.

UPDATE:
We have to manually retire. If it turns eight it will die and no one can return it from the Dynasty :) Mod was very helpful ^^ 		Spirit

Do you use the jellyfish to retire? I thought retire = send to the dynasty.

there's been an update! Now, you can choose to immortalize the wolf instead :D they won't be the Lead anymore, but they will be in your Den immortal ^^ 		Spirit
