Winds of Change

All it took to send Pern into a tailspin was the decision of a single dragonet. With the hatching of a gold and her subsequent Impression to her bonded - a young man, not the woman everyone expected to be Benden's next Weyrwoman - Pern finds itself in a state of upheaval. The young queen Haloneth has deviated from Tradition, almost challenging the old ways outright.. Add in the fact that the young queen and her bonded, along with many others of Benden Weyr, have snuck away in the night, and every Weyr, Hold, and Hall is left in an uproar.
That was two Turns ago, believe it or not. People still whisper, wondering so many thing. Where has Benden's young queen and those that followed her gone? Do they yet live? Yet news began trickling in, carried from sailors and dragonriders of the Weyrs Ista, Igen, and Telgar. Haloneth and her bonded, along with all who fled with them, live! The Western Continent houses a new Weyr: Westwind Weyr. What began as a small settlement at the base of a small mountain now stands tall and proud as a brand new Weyr, with the young gold Haloneth at its head.
So much differs between Westwind and the other Weyrs. Candidates have a broader range of ages, and may Stand upon the Sands for longer periods. Whers are considered a true part of Westwind Weyr, rather than the inferior cousins of dragons that are grudgingly allowed residency in other Weyrs. A dragonrider or wherhandler may hold rank based on the individual's merit, rather than the color of beast they ride. A pair of greens have risen and clutched, and the resulting dragonets are living proof of the new life and new ways that blossom here. Ista Weyr provides aid to the growing Westwind Weyr, along with Igen and Telgar. What does this mean for the rest of Pern?
Change. It carries on the wind, like a whisper. Will you answer the call?
