I POST NEW INFO AS I FIND IT GO AHEAD AND POST INFO IF YA WANT TO!

That ranks them as 4th best of 122 breeds tested, meaning they are one of the most affectionate and least aggressive dogs. Michael Vick owned 51 Pit Bulls at the time of his arrest for dog fighting. Thirty of those dogs have been re-trained and are in loving homes, while four more have gone on to become therapy dogs.

it says, "A well-socialized and well-trained pit bull is one of the most delightful, intelligent, and gentle dogs imaginable." ... That's what makes them great dogs for sports like weight pulling. They are very strong, athletic animals," Reid says. Owning a pit bull should not be taken lightly.

A majority of Pit Bull mixes will tend to exhibit decidedly "Pit Bull-like" behavioral tendencies like dog-aggression, although the intensity of the aggression may not be as high as in purebred Pit Bulls. ... This can be a dangerous combo, and such dogs may very well be best off with only the most experienced of owners ( excuse me?! what did you just say above?!)

Pit bulls, as a group, are intelligent dogs, soft to their owners and relatively easy to train as they are eager to please their owners. With all phases of training, praise is a key element when it comes to the pit bull. Positive methods will work best for training this breed.

They are loyal, loving dogs who want only to please their owners. If raised in a loving atmosphere, pit bulls are gentle, friendly, affectionate and loyal. ... The AKC does not recognize the "pit bull as a breed.

Can Pit Bulls be left alone? Pit Bulls hate being alone so it is not a good idea to leave them alone for a long period of time. An adult Pit Bull should not be left alone for more than 4 to 6 hours, while for puppies, the time being alone should not exceed 2 hours.

Do Pitbull's Have A Favorite Person? Yes, Pitbull's will often favor the individual in the family that interacted and trained them most. They will take a strong liking towards their owners and the alpha in the family.

The Labrador Retriever has been on the AKC's top 10 most popular breeds list for 30 consecutive years—longer than any other breed.

5. Seventy percent of people sign their dog's name on their holiday cards.

6. A dog's sense of smell is legendary, but did you know that his nose has as many as 300 million receptors? In comparison, a human nose has about 5 million.

7. Rin Tin Tin, the famous German Shepherd, was nominated for an Academy Award.

8. Dogs' noses can sense heat/thermal radiation, which explains why blind or deaf dogs can still hunt.

9. Only one breed that was among the five most popular breeds in 1934— the Beagle — still remains in the top five today.

10. The name Collie means "black." (Collies once tended black-faced sheep.)

11. Yawning is contagious—even for dogs. Research shows that the sound of a human yawn can trigger one from your dog. And it's four times as likely to happen when it's the yawn of a person he knows.

12. The Dandie Dinmont Terrier is the only breed named for a fictional person—a character in the novel Guy Mannering, by Sir Walter Scott.

13. Dogs curl up in a ball when sleeping to protect their organs—a hold over from their days in the wild, when they were vulnerable to predator attacks.

The Irish Terrier is also known as the "red daredevil." Unsurprisingly, the red refers to the color of the breed's coat. As for the daredevil part of the nickname, it befits the spirit and courage of the Irish Terrier. These dogs are known for their independent nature, versatility, and intelligence.

"The gray ghost" could only refer to one breed, and that of course, is the Weimaraner. The distinctive color of the Weimaraner's short, sleek coat is unlike the color of any other dog. With the gray coat and stealthy style of hunting, you might just think you're seeing a ghost walking around in the forest.

The "King of Terriers," refers to the largest of the terriers, the Airedale. Airedales live up to this nickname with their sturdy, athletic bodies, and also with their personalities. Airedale Terriers are intelligent, self-assured, and courageous. They are incomparable companions for those who own them.

It's no surprise that the Basenji is also referred to as "the barkless dog." The Basenji is known for his ability to yodel, as well as make a range of other sounds including growls, crows, and howls. The Basenji is independent-natured, smart, and alert.

Multum in parvo" means a lot of dog in a small space, which could only be the nickname of the charming, loving, and mischievous Pug. Pugs may be small, but they're recognized for their incredible personalities. Pugs are even-tempered, playful, outgoing, and have endless curiosity.

One of the most important of the Greek gods, Apollo ranks highly in much of ancient Greek literature and culture. The "Apollo of dogs" is none other than one of the biggest dogs around, the Great Dane. The Great Dane is legendary for his size and for his power, as well. This breed has an elegant, regal appearance and a spirited, courageous, and sensitive nature.

The "butterfly dog" refers to the Papillon, and the name literally means butterfly in French. The Papillon got its name from its ears. The breed's ears are always carried erect and spread like the wings of a butterfly. The Papillon is happy, outgoing, alert, and an excellent companion.

The American gentleman among dogs is none other than the Boston Terrier. The breed is nicknamed as such because of its characteristically gentle disposition. It is also an American-made dog, created from a combination of Bulldogs and White English Terriers.

The nickname "Dutch barge dog" refers to the Keeshond's historical roots. Keeshonden evolved in Holland, where they were known as barge dogs and used to patrol barges, riverboats, and farms. Now, these friendly, lively, and outgoing dogs make great watchdogs, companions, and dog sport competitors.

How Much Milk Can Dogs Drink?
Milk is a safe treat in small quantities. A few tablespoons of cow's milk or goat's milk on an occasional basis can be a nice reward for your dog without the side effects of overindulgence. But, you should probably hold off on offering your dog an entire bowl in one sitting, as it can cause unpleasant reactions, including diarrhea, vomiting, and loose stools.

The beverage is high in fat and natural sugars, which is another reason to feed it to your pup in small quantities. Too much fat in your dog's diet can lead to obesity and pancreatitis, which are serious conditions.

Lactose Intolerance in Dogs
Dairy products are a leading source of food intolerance in dogs, and many canines are lactose intolerant, which means they have difficulty digesting milk. Some lactose intolerant dogs have trouble drinking milk, but can handle dairy products like cheese and plain yogurt, which are typically easier to digest than straight milk. Others have adverse reactions to dairy in general.

How to Tell If Your Dog Is Lactose Intolerant
Dogs can have varying degrees of lactose intolerance; some might experience only mild symptoms, while other cases may be more severe. The most common symptoms are:

Loose stools
Gas
Vomiting
Abdominal pain
Diarrhea
Many owners don't find out that their dogs are lactose intolerant until they feed them milk. Trying to determine if your dog is lactose intolerant can also be tricky if your pup has consumed a large amount of milk, as this can also trigger vomiting and diarrhea in dogs that are not lactose intolerant. However, if your dog shows signs of these symptoms after drinking a small amount of milk, you should find a different treat.

Boston Terrier
Friendly, Bright, Amusing
The Boston Terrier is a lively little companion recognized by his tight tuxedo jacket, sporty but compact body, and the friendly glow in his big, round eyes. His impeccable manners have earned him the nickname "The American Gentleman."

cool topic, I'm subscribing for dog facts

25. A recent study shows that dogs are among a small group of animals who show voluntary unselfish kindness towards others without any reward.

That's pretty neat! I've heard that rats fit that category too. They did a study where one rat was trapped in a small tube. Another rat was left to roam free, with access to a switch that would free the trapped rat, as well as a small pile of food. The rat generally chose to free their fellow rat first and then share the food, instead of eating all the food by themselves.
