Allow Ping Response In Giveaway Chat

Allow Ping Response In Giveaway Chat
Posted 2021-12-24 21:24:36
I love that those who make wolvden as awesome as it is respond to feedback and make changes accordingly. One of the most recent updates has allowed a Giveaway Chat, which is a great idea to allow for giveaways without drowning out general chatter in main or legitimate sales in the sales chat.

However, the fact that we are not allowed to ping in response to giveaways has really frustrated me. The new rules for the new giveaway channel include the following as posted in the update: You may not respond to giveaways within Giveaways Chat.  If you're interested in a giveaway, then you must either PM the player that posted the giveaway, or post on their forum topic if one is linked.

The reason I find this frustrating is because offering a giveaway (no matter which channel) is a fast, easy way to provide possible assets to new or in-need players. It is quick, it is easy, if a player knows where main (or now the giveaway chat) is, that's all that's necessary which makes it so easy for new players!

Furthermore, if I go through the hassle of creating a thread or a trade that will sit, I might as well sell the items/wolf/whatever rather than giving it away. Or chase them. Take the example of a wolf that is a hunter but otherwise has no bonuses that would make it worth selling, and I need gone to make space ASAP. I would prefer to give this to a player in need of hunters so obviously I want to make the wolf a giveaway, I don't have time to edit (especially now with having to code or the html thing that confuses me though I'm trying to learn) or create a chatter thread. If I face having to A) create a new chatter post and format it (anything beyond the most basic is very confusing to me I can't even make the font bigger for the title atm) or B) edit an existing chatter post (again the code is an issue personally but not the issue being discussed here), then I'd rather simply chase and be done--having made space or otherwise gotten rid of the wolf I need gone ASAP.

Finally, if I don't want to go through the hassle of creating a thread in chatter/forums, then the other option is having other players PM me. This is frustrating to me because I always need to clean out my inbox and more importantly it upsets me thinking about having to turn down the second, third, or even fourth person who PMs if I have already given the asset away. I would hate to turn the second (or more) person down, at least if we could ping in the giveaway channel, they could see someone already 'called it'. I wouldn't even feel comfortable PMing someone offering a giveaway because I would simply assume someone already grabbed it and wouldn't want someone to be put in the uncomfortable situation of saying "sorry this asset isn't available now".

All in all, I think a simple solution would be to just allow players to ping in response to giveaways in the Giveaway channel. We don't need to play games or have other requirements to 'win' the giveaway, but I feel the new update has provided a solution to overcrowding main and then complicated it needlessly.

Fully support this - I literally just posted in response to LD's same change that if the issue was ping spam in main chat, since giveaway chat is specifically just for that, pings should be allowed there as a compromise that would probably make everyone happier with the change.

Huge support. I was like 'whaa?' when I saw the 'no pings' rule. I don't think it would be too much clutter. It's so convenient if you want to unload something fast. Plus that way you can see if someone has already claimed the thing you want, rather than sending a message and not knowing if someone else also sent one before you could.

Big support. I'd like to second both of Katie's reasons:

It's so convenient if you want to unload something fast. Plus that way you can see if someone has already claimed the thing you want, rather than sending a message and not knowing if someone else also sent one before you could.

In addition, I much prefer interacting in public/group areas (forums, public chats) than DMing someone to initiate a one-on-one conversation. I expect others may feel the same way.

I very much agree with the one on one situation, that's the biggest thing that has me uncomfortable. It's not that I don't like interacting with fellow players, but the one on one just seems very personal. I don't mind discussing certain sales, but to do it as often as I do giveaways is really uncomfortable.

Support, I hate having to clean out my inbox and pretty much just leave it full because I get unsolicited dms about if Im selling wolves, or if X wolf is available and if so how much and what items I want for it. That and I hate getting random thank you dms from buying things off the tc because ill get a flood of 10+ individual "Thank you"s and it drives me nuts.

So there's no way I can do any givaways because no one can DM me and im afraid that even if I leave 1 or 2 spots open to get a single dm for the giveaways, then they'll just get taken up by unrelated dms.

*to clarify: I know the dms arn't mean rudely and people just wanna show appreciation, but with x amount of space and constant "You have a message" messages popping up everytime you get a dm, it's frustrating because I hve to scroll alot more than I need too to get to the explore button/level up wolves notifs, and open more messages than I should to get that bothersome red number to go away.

Oh my goodness PLEASE! Support 1000percent. Pinging to claims is so much faster than having to make an entire forum post or deal with DMs. Especially if it's a small giveaway like where you are only giving away 1-2 wolves or assets. With the way it is currently, I am more enclosed to chase wolves, even if it means deleting them over dealing with DMs or the forums.

Exactly this.
1000% Agree and support.

After going to a great distance of talking to many other members and not ignoring my own thoughts and feedback;

I, and many other members, are not a fan of the "message other persons via DM" in order to give away items/wolves. In many ways it's a blighted response to the situation.

1. DMs are not unlimited. As such, if a user has a full inbox, there's literally no way for someone to let them know that they cannot send a DM.
2. DMs can cause many troubling mental side effects. Me, and at least three other people, have experienced terrible social anxiety and PTSD when it comes to the mere IDEA of sending a DM. My girlfriend is PETRIFIED of sending messages to people, while mine, and a handful of others stems from past physical and mental abuse, I feel like the whole idea is discriminatory in nature.
3. How is it a "giveaway" channel if we can't hold giveaways..? In all my time here on wolvden, 70% of my amusement was making other peoples' days by doing "ping first" giveaways with items considered "high price tag" items. Suddenly that not allowed at all.

So first you make it so I have to confront my own PTSD and send someone a private message, and then you take away my only game-given serotonin by making it impossible to do ping giveaways.

I came here after abandoning Flight Rising, but I may have to rethink my decision. This seems more destructive than helpful in lots of ways.

Full support! I was so pissed when I saw the no pings rule. I hate making forum threads; they never get any attention and they're such a pain to make. I don't like my inbox being cluttered, either.

i 1000% agree. I can't add anything else that others here haven't mentioned. making a whole new forum thread is annoying, having a full inbox is just aggravating, and at this point I might as well chase the wolf than deal with all of the needless compromises to pinging in the giveaway chat.
