hii I was just wondering if anyone else here kept inverts! I'd love to talk about them and maybe even offer advice to people looking to get into the hobby! If you want to post down below with your species list go ahead!

I currently have:

  • "orange koi" porcellio scaber isopod culture
  • tybolus uncigerus millipedes
  • phidippus californicus jumping spider
  • manduca sexta tobacco hawkmoth (I raised from caterpillars!)

I also keep a ball python and tropical plants :^) hope to meet more buggy folk! and let me know if anyone wants to see pictures

I love inverts, want to keep more of them someday, but I'm scared that the fragile things will just die for no reason. I mean, I've done it before though, I had a mantis and it was fine. At this point arthropods are the only type of animal I'd love enough to take the best possible care of, but it still frightens me.

(There is no way I'm going to get any animal unless I can put my absolute entire ass into raising it.)

It'd be my eventual dream to have one of those massive centipedes. I know they're mean and also really good at escaping but I'd love the thing as if it were my son. They're so cute

I have a cellar slug named Kaiju and a small colony of Armadillidium isopods, both rescued from a garden that was about to be sprayed for bugs. I used to keep Porcellio isopods (also caught locally) last year, but they were a little too successful and I was up to my eyeballs in them so they were eventually released back into the yard.

Someday I'd like to keep a millipede or two!

Wow, you guys are legit about this!!! The jumping spider sounds adorable. Jumping spiders in general are sooo cute with their little mating dances.

Millipedes and centipedes though...I don't think I could keep them! They're cool, but the way they move weirds me out a bit.

I don't have anything as crazy as you guys are talking about, but I do have a few inverts, just not terrestrial ones. In my 10gal aquarium I have somewhere between 10 and 30 blue dream neocaridina david freshwater shrimp. They're so neat, but are sensitive and difficult to keep happy IMO. I can't seem to get them to breed for me, though my water chemistry seems to be fine.

I have been much more successful with my mystery snails! We didn't expect them to be very interesting but they're really an absolute delight. I love watching them roam around the 20gal. We currently have 6 clutches of eggs they've laid, so they must be happy enough with their home, haha. We actually got to watch one of them laying her eggs just last night, which was incredible. It felt like something out of a documentary right in our living room!

I don't have any of them anymore, but I used to have a Death's head hawk moth caterpillar, Elephant hawk moth, and a giant African land snail.

(Pictures aren't mine)

My snail was roughly the same size when he passed away. It's sad because they're an invasive species and most people kill them on sight, but I think they're such amazing creatures. Mine was called Jabba, he'd sit and eat salad with me while we watched movies on my laptop. Best pet I've ever had. I would love to get another one someday but they're technically illegal to keep so idk.

I'm also planning on getting into reptile keeping once I move out. I read something about bioactive substrates (if I remember correctly) and that seemed like a really interesting little project for later on.

Edited because my pictures broke woops

since posting this ive also gotten an orange baboon tarantula sling <3 named webby

and as far millipedes and jumping spiders go, they are very easy and i recommend them.

i mean millipedes are happy as can be in a tub of dirt so they are the easiest pets haha

AHH! I love isopods. I don't have any yet, but I'm gathering supplies to make a bioviv for my snakes. Jumping spiders are also one of my favorite cute inverts.
