A Contest for a Chromium NBW
Posted 2021-09-03 17:12:57 (edited)
Hi and welcome!
Let me get straight to the contest:

Basically, all you have to do is fill out this two question form about what you would do with her if you got her!

This contest will end September 6 at 20:00 WDT!!

Here are a few rules:
-You must be able to carry out what you are planning for her.
-Anyone can enter!

Here are some things that I really want for her (of future him?) (These are in no way requirements and you do not have to put everything on this list to win):
- Some nice lore
- A cool design with plenty of decorations
- Her high NBW stats to be taken advantage of
- If she is made a stud, that she would be open to refunded R&C breedings

Here is the wolf!!
link

Q&A:

Who is deciding the winner?
Me (Abby #13289) and ciaccona #19689 (the chaser)!

How can I win?
The player that ciaccona and I think will give her the best future!

Do I need to post on the thread and reply to the form?
Nope! You just need to do one, whichever works for you best! Though ciaccona or myself may not reply, we will read all entries before reviewing them and announcing a winner! You are however, welcome to fill out both, if you  plan on editing your answer in the future.

Here is the question for those of you who may be inconvenienced by the form:
What do you plan on doing with her(/him) in the future? (The more detailed your plan for her will be, the more likely you are to win her. Anything will help! If you want to include designs, or give her lore, stuff like that!)

Please let me know if there is anything else you would like to know!!

Design: Wardrobe Link
Variant: Sentinel | Background: [USA] Tennessee - Great Smoky Mountains | Decor: Common Ground Dove, Parrot Feather Decor, Scattered Rocks, Lichen-Covered Rocks, Cold Breath, Sparkling Fur, Cottonwood Seeds [Heavy], and Light Snow

General Information

She would be named Ululo! (U-LEW-LOW - Meaning howl in Latin.) She would be my second ever chased TIII, and the first I'd keep! I'm active every single day, and have been since October; there will be no shortage of love from us for her.

My lead wolf retires on the 8th, and I don't have an heir. I generally prefer NBW/heritageless leads, so in the event I didn't find one, I just plan to reroll. Then I found this wolf, and I have a special place for Chromiums in my heart, as they were the first breed-only TIII I bred in my pack, so I thought it might be worth it to enter!

If I win, I will make her my lead! I'm interested in making it onto the heritageless Leaderboards for stats, so I would definitely utilize that high stat roll! I'd also make her my stud (but keep she/her pronouns) and wouldn't mind doing refunded breedings R&C, I've never had a wolf that would be good for R&C pups so it would be cool to do that with this wolf! Her stud price would be relatively cheap and affordable and will change accordingly with the market.

Design
Wardrobe Link

I wanted to be faithful as much as I possibly could be to her original design will still allowing her to be customizable. Her eyes have been changed to hazel, and her leathers were changed. I kept all of her original markings, but tweaked their opacities.

For customization plans, I plan to RMA the remaining slots while aiming for a 100% greyscale design, which means I'll try to only use black, gray, white, silver, or sterling markings. But I may try to incorporate color subtly, using a pale blue, orange, etc. and If I get any good combo or rare marks I will most likely keep them.

As for decorations, I have copies of all the items in my hoard, tentative to use them but I can do this design eventually. I also have the sentinel crafting recipe and the required materials. I may add more, but what I have already is the general look I'm aiming for.

Lore

TLDR; Ululo was born very weak and at the brink of death, her parents howled to the moon asking for help. Help was granted, but their dark furred pup began to change, and soon was covered in white and silver fur. She grew up feeling like an outcast from her packmates, and decided to leave and risk it out in the tundra on her own. Attempting to cross a river, she falls in, and is carried downstream into a ravine. There she meets the wolves of Howlism, who believe her to be the reincarnation of the Howler, the spirit of the moon.

Ululo was born on the cusp of autumn, when the first signs of frost began. She was still and unmoving, barely a shred of life was within the newborn pup. Distraught and desperate to save their youngest, the parents of Ululo howled to the waning moon every night for three consecutive days until it had phased into total darkness.

It had seem their wish had been granted, as the moon set and the sun began to rise, life ignited within the pup. She was as dark as the night, and her spirit strong. The pup was given the name Ululo, after the song that had given her a chance at life.

As days progress and she grew, her pelt began to change. Soft swirls and speckling of silver and white peeked through her dark coat, fur bleaching along with the moon as it once again gained its brilliance. Within just half the cycle of the lunar satellite, Ululo had completely transformed.

She'd come to learn she was evidently an outcast within the pack. She didn't look like her kin, and certainly didn't act like it. She was not reclusive like her siblings, or patient like her parents. Her anxieties lead to her doubting her abilities and she soon felt drawn to the world outside of her pack.

Ululo made a decision right there, to set off on her own and find her way. The moon-touched wolf was strong, both physically and of the mind. The enrichment of the summer season was kind to her, but she knew she would not be able to survive the approaching autumn and inevitable winter. She begins to make her way south, but finds trouble at a fierce river. Whilst attempting to cross, she missteps and submerges underwater. The river carries Ululo far, down into a ravine where she washes up upon a shore.

She wakes in the mid of the night, in a small pool of water, illuminated by the perfect reflection of the full moon. A small group of wolves surrounded her, looking in awe. They explain they had received a sign from the afterlife. The ancient wolves of the past had plans for Ululo, they were to guide the Howlists into an era of prosperity, she was destined to achieve many feats. In the image of the Howler, she would be the greatest leader Howlism had ever seen.

Again, thanks for the opportunity, I hope wherever she goes she gets a good home! Good luck to everyone who entered. :D

Volkarus

Gameplay:

I am a short-heredity stat breeder who hasn't yet dabbled in T3s.  My plan would be to make Volkarus a scout until she is level 20, and then set her as hunter.  My lead still has some time to go, so there's no telling at this point, but she would also be a candidate for taking over the pack once he passes.
I would like to dress her in many snow-themed custom decors, but I do not have a means of previewing them at the moment with her planned design.  These are some I have in mind though:

Winters touch
Snowy Ground
Bear Hunters Outfit
Magpie Feathers
Featherful Pied

Appearance

Volkarus

Volkarus is meant to somewhat resemble a sled dog.  Her previous tribe lived in the tundra and would often encounter and even take in ex-sled dogs if they proved worthy.  They valued the warrior and the traveler, and saw little difference between wolves and dogs so long as they can survive the harsh environment and were a benefit to the pack, or had interesting stories to tell in passing.  Because of this her ancestry was muddy, the line blurred between dog and wolf.
I gave her a monochrome, snowy pelt, with hints of red, as a nod to the defining moment in her life when her tribe was swallowed by an avalanche.

Lore:

Volkarus- a name which means "of the people", and "warrior" in her birth tribes language.  (derived from German "Volker")
A bite first and think later kind of wolf, Volkarus is brave to the point of being hotheaded, and a passionate warrior who greatly values honor in battle. She is also a very emotionally charged wolf, who's quick to lose herself to paranoia or anxiety and lash out, especially when she has something to protect.  However, just as quick as she is to burst out in emotion, she is also quick to calm.  Fickle, like changing winds in just about everything except for her responsibility.  She would do anything to protect those who are under her wing, and loses her senses and purpose when she has no one to fight with and for.

(Context: the wolves of my pack have a religion based on the seasons, in which certain wolves that are believed to be "touched" by a part of a season are spirits of change in the world around them.  (IE: Hoarfrost is winters first frost which kills off the weaker life to make room for a new, Zanoko is the plum blossoms that push away winter and bring life to the world after the frost, and Volkarus would represent the whipping winds and fickle temperature that can cause avalanches, reshaping the land and life)

The Meeting
Once the heir of a mighty tribe Volkarus wanders the icy tundra, a spirit drifting across the jagged blue and white, searching for the wars she was deprived as a young lass when her family fell in battle to a cruel, and unfair rival.  Were it to be a battle of flesh and blood her legion would have undoubtedly persisted, but it was the awed voice of winter herself, the one she'd always been taught to respect, that tore her throne from her- burying it in a mound of blood, snow and ice.  Nature had chosen a different course for her.
The timeless solitude on the frozen, endless glade both aged her into a turmultous ancient soul, as her body and mind stayed young and listless.  She was but a primal beast when she came across a wolf touched by winters first frost.  Without her people she knew only of war and the cruelty of the icy expanse, plagued by a blizzard of rage and vengeance for the gods which struck down her kin and her former life of glory.  To add ice to the glacier, for some reason this wolf was unlike others she's encountered in her icy prison.  He carried a familiar gaze which reminded her of her own curse, one which peered past her flesh into her very spirit.
He knew. This enraged Volkarus, in her paranoia burned a fury that could melt the glaciers, and crumble mountains of ice.  Words echoed in her ears that seemed to come from the earth itself rather than a wolf. "Dartsa, friend.  Why do you tremble so?"  As the intruder spoke, a mess of foam fell from Volkarus's mouth like snow, she felt betrayed by the wolf who spoke in the tongue of the gods who punish her, and her voice certainly reflected that.  "I know not this ' Dartsa'," She spat out the word as though it was venom on her tongue "I am Volkarus, leader of the Blistering Winds!  And you shall respect me as such, vermin!"
The male glanced to both sides looking unimpressed, "I see no tribe here, child, and no leader, only the blistering winds."
The she-wolf saw red, fur rippled like a brewing storm and her limbs seemed to erupt into flames as she leapt at the male, pale fangs ready to rip flesh like they had in her adolescence.
But the other was too quick, too clear headed, and the match was too quickly decided. "Rude brat."  A paw pressed on her neck he looked down on her with disappointment, "Is this what the queen of Avalanches has amounted to?  Where has your sense gone, Dartsa?" she locked on him a piercing glare and a flash of teeth, but stayed down, knowingly outmatched. Expressionlessly, the victor removed him paw and stepped back to let the other up. "Come, follow me, there is much to do, and little time."  The defeat had calmed her enough to recall her peoples tradition, and reluctantly accept the outcome.  He'd bested her, a leader to a dead clan, whether or not she'd liked it, and as such she must accept him as her leader.  But if she were to keep the tradition of her people, she decided she would also be keeping the name they gave her.  "Its Volkarus." She half growled, half spat, and fully demanded in a last burst of defiance.
"Is that what you go by these days?" The victor shrugged, "Fine then.  Hurry, now, we must get you back to your former glory, you're looking pitiful, and hungry.  You'll call me Hoarfrost, by the way.  There are more like us back on the stretch. Who knows, maybe you'll lead them one day."  He let out a breath that was only almost amused, perhaps a taunt in reference to her bold declaration, and started to head out towards the territory, not risking a glancing back to make sure that she's following.

Over time Volkarus fell easily into the daily routine of the pack, although somewhat begrudgingly.  Things seemed rather normal, she'd been appointed as a scout, making use of her experience out on the glaciers for the benefit of the pack.  Pack life had calmed her troubled soul, and she'd finally had a family again, even if it wasn't quite the same.  She felt whole to be more than just a rogue warrior, afterall, she was always a wolf of her people.  But a prick of unease would always trouble her pelt any time she'd recall that first night.  Who was Dartsa?  And what was that icy peer hoarfrost had held on her in their first confrontation?  The voice that seemed to boom in her ears?  She could feel something like a chill in her spine, a current of something unknown, urging her towards something else unknown, too many unknowns!  There were moments where others among the pack's pelts seem to spark a familiar feeling in her bones.  Hoarfrost however evades her questions, feigning ignorance for her desciption of that fateful day.  Perhaps if she succeeds him shell finally learn what it is that she was brought here for?  But for now, she would do her best in her new home, she had to get stronger first, afterall.

Thanks so much for the opportunity! Here's my entry.

~

My beloved lead & stud dies on the 7th. I'm so sad because he means a lot to me as he was also an NBW. He unfortunately didn't get to spend his early years in my pack so I feel like I didn't raise his stats to the full potential. I have no plans for an heir or a new stud as I don't feel I currently have anyone that would measure up to my current- so anyone I do choose of my current wolves will only be a placeholder.

I'm the type of player to do the fast grind to lv 10 plus and the even more difficult, but less quick, grind to lv 20 as fast as possible so I can continue to max out their stats for the remainder of their life. My boy is shy of the 10th place for highest no heritage stat leads which is great considering Ive only had him as my lead for just over 4 game years as I got him at almost 4yo. This wolf is much younger so in comparison I can only imagine how much further I can push their stats! I prefer to have NBW leads because I get to see their once lower stats grow to be great. I feel it's more rewarding than getting a pup that's already got high stats.

I was feeling disheartened with the lack of direction I'm faced when my lead dies. Then I found this thread posted as a link in the R&C discord server when I decided to post an NBW I had with merle for a freebie to anyone who wanted him. I admit I was very excited and thought how amazing it would be if I were to win this wolf. I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high though as I know there are other entrants. It would be absolutely perfect timing in terms of switching leaders as that would be my plan for this wolf. I would then use a sex changer and make them male. He would become my next beloved lead/stud as I do tend to grow the most fond of my leads. It saddens me we can't immortalize them.

I like to give the total shuffle a shot once in the beginning then go RMA from there. Im hoping I'll get a couple of good markings I can start to base a design off of. I happened to get pretty lucky last time I used RMAs so I hope there's some luck left (fingers crossed). Since I don't know what markings I might roll I don't know how to best express the marking design. In general though I love warm colors as you can probably tell if you visit my pack lol, but for this wolf I think a more natural look will be better. Whites, grays, blacks, and hopefully some combo colors from RMA. When I see this wolf and their natural markings, I feel like they are princely in style so maybe some royal custom decor as I love the aesthetic. I'll play with several options.

I am a member of the R&C discord server and a frequent breeder/chaser of adult t3s. I would be more than happy to offer a refunded breeding option for R&C to keep supporting the cause.

Here's some designs:
1- canyon Without any custom decor
2- slightly different but with custom decor

I think these would look good regardless of markings (which is why I left them with no markings).

Alternatively, I've kinda got this royal guard theme going with one of my other wolves. I have no written lore but in my head he brings the army into battle. So having a lead with this theme I think I could actually write some lore with this wolf as the alpha and king.

3- royal canyon

4- royal mountain

As of right now I think I'm going to go with royal canyon decor design. I absolutely love all of the decor together and it just fits so well in the setting. I designed this combo of decoration before (excluding the newer custom decor) but I couldn't find a wolf it would really fit on. This light colored wolf fits best in this setting I believe.

A full list of the decor/custom decor:
1- canyon: canyon background, decor found in link to wardrobe, no custom
2- slightly different: canyon background, decor from previous wardrobe, (lighting) soft sunlight, cape of the desert strider, a wild crown.
3- royal canyon: canyon background, decor from first wardrobe, peregrine falcon buddy, "sunlight sword", gold crown, golden bracelets, 3 ring earring, royal garb, beaded tail decoration.
4- royal mountain: (Canada) Newfoundland (gros morne) background, skeletal remains, windy, scar bite, scar eye right small, peregrine falcon buddy, "sunlight sword", gold crown, golden bracelets, 3 ring earring, royal garb, beaded tail decoration.

Gameplay:

I'm a lowgen Breeder that loves Argents and Chromiums. I usually use all the resources I can to level up my wolves; this included puppy training to correct stats and the likes. If I would win her I definitely wouldn't waste her huge potential.

Appearance:

I was thinking to give her the costum decor I'd make myself so it will be unique to her and her "family" only. That will tie into the lore I've planned regarding my Argents and future Chromiums. The lady will get Azure Eyes and I'll work with RMAs to hopefully get some rare markings out of it.

Lore:

Two of my Argents already belong to a webcomic I work on. The lore of my breeding line in Wolvden will be related to my comic and the stoy behind it. So our little Chromium lady will be including in all of this and get her own lore eventually, including putting her in the story we have planned. I can't reveal more for the time being as my writing partner and I are still working on how to translate that to Wolvden (we aren't native speakers after all so it takes its time!)

What will happened to her:

She'll remain female and become the mate/pairbond to my lead Since so they can start a new line. All their descendants will get their own costum decor as well, a sign they belong to that line. I also plan to chase/raffle Argents and Chroms from that line so others can enjoy both of these beautiful bases as well!

(please excuse my poor english and my sentences that are very hard to understand cause my attention span does what it wants)

Wow, thank you for this amazing opportunity. I'm a newbie in this game but i'm already addicted and know a lot of how stuff here works. I've tried to do t3 breeding before but so far i've gotten no t3 puppies so i'll just keep trying. Since i don't have a lot of money and especially gc, getting low gen or nbw t3s is really hard, i've managed to get some t3s but they're high gen and a little inbred so winning this one would be huge for me. I've gotten into r&c culture and once i'm able to buy more territory slots i'll be able to do more of it and chasing especially ib pups from my other wolves is what i'm planning on doing, i'm not sure if i'd do that with her at least in the beginning. Chromium is one of my favorite base colours but a cool light would also get me closer to my dream of getting an argent pup as well.

Her name would be Ronja (as in ronia, the robbers daughter and also it's my best friend's name) The name will also fit the lore i'd give her since it depicts her being wise and compassionate and a survivor. If you've seen the movie or read the book you'll know exactly what i'm talking about lol.

At first I'd make her a scout to give her stat gains and get her to at least level 10 before the next steps. I would still keep her as a scout until higher levels (and then set her as a hunter to make room for new scouts). I'd then give her a couple event marking apps and an event eye app and then some rmas to fill all her marking slots so i can't really give you a design yet lol though here is one possibility and what decor i think would suit her (some of which i already have and perhaps even some customs i could buy over time for her but that i don't have the money for yet)... link

I definitely want to keep her color palette as grey/ bluish grey since i really enjoy natural colored wolves. (getting all the markings could take me some time since i'm not very rich but i'll get there). Then i have 2 options, sex changing her and making her a breeding male for my pack. i think t3 nbw breeding males are much needed but i think limiting the amount of offspring and having a rare lineage is better thinking of the possible inbreeding in future generations (that's why i also like r&c and i'm totally down for refunded breedings). The other option is that i just keep her as female and try to get some t3s out of her, i also happen to have a low gen albino male i've been planning on setting as my stud if i make him into a special base so i'm not completely sure who i'd choose, it's a big decision. If i don't make her my stud i might not give her as big of a makeover, but i'd definitely do s o m e t h i n g since a t3 nbw is a biiiig thing for me and would be loved and appreciated greatly.

I'm eventually writing personalities and lore for all my pack members when i have enough time and motivation so that'd be on my list as well, however i can give you a little idea of what i think would suit her best :) For some reason nbws always make me think of kinda tragic backstories so heeere we go, this is only her youth before she ends up in her new pack but i don't have time for more, sadly.

Ronja was born into a tiny pack in the tundra to a litter of two, her mother was always kind and caring for her pups but her father spent much of his time hunting for their pack to help them survive on their cold and rugged territory where food was scarce. The pack was cursed with bad luck and illnesses were bothering the already weakened pack. Her and her brother, Birk didn't mind that they had to learn how to take care of themselves early, but the older pack members always seemed to worry about them and were whispering in a worried manner behind their backs, they were the first pups in years that had made it even that far in life. However, day by day the puppies grew stronger and stronger, making other pack members, nonetheless their parents proud and hopeful for the future, everything was going great. The puppies were well over six moons and training with the hunters like they did all the time, this time the stalker had found a moose trail and the hunters were excited, the first large trail they had found all spring, looked like the pack was eating well for the next weeks. After some tracking they found the moose cow and the chasers got to work, chasing the animal up on the fjells. Both Birk and Ronja were doing well with the hunt and none of the adults were really paying attention to their doings anymore. The puppies however were already falling behind, not being able to keep up with the high speed the moose was setting and they were getting tired. They stopped to catch a breath for a minute but after some time they realized the smells of the pack had faded, meaning they had already gotten far away. They began panicking and didn't know which direction the wind was bringing the weak smell so they started to wander around until they heard a small growling sound in the downy birch forest. They were surprised by a young arctic fox that bared it's needlesharp teeth and barked at them furiously. Birk let a small howl which made the fox even angrier and it lunged at the puppies while snapping it's jaws. It got a hold of Birk's tail and he yelped in pain, running away, the puppies were about as big as the fox but they were exhausted and weakened by the hunt so the last thing they wanted to do was fight. The damn fox was persistent. Suddenly Birk let a horrified cry and disappears into thin air, followed by a loud thump, the fox seems as confused as Ronja and she manages to switch their positions, rushing to get a strong grip of the foxes neck. The fox is able to bite a nasty chunk of Ronja's foot but soon the canine goes limp with a crushing sound from it's neck. Ronja is exhausted but she brings herself to look for her brother whose fate was still uncovered. She soon found the place where he had disappeared, a small but deep giant's kettle in the rock, where she saw Birk at the bottom. She called for him but got no answer, his body laying there not moving. She sees the puddle of blood dripping beside his head, there's nothing she could do anymore. Even if Birk was still alive, there was no way she could rescue him from the 5-metre-deep pothole. She was angry and she was crying. She was angry at herself for not killing the damn fox sooner, for Birk being a coward and not looking where he was running and at the pack for leaving them behind. She couldn't move a limb anymore, she was so tired she had to stay right there with his dead brother's body and she hated it. Why couldn't she do more. She was weak. She was not worthy. The next few days she spent alone in the fjells, she managed to find some lemmings to eat but she couldn't bring herself to return to her pack. There just was no way. Still tears running from her eyes every time she realized her brother wasn't with her, she started to wander south, trying to get as far from the tundra as possible...

So that was what i could come up on the spot, i really have no motivation to continue writing more if she doesn't end up in my pack but writing backstories is still fun and i really enjoyed it nonetheless. Whoever you choose as her next home, I hope her all the best and want to congratulate the winner for getting such and amazing wolf :))
