I have a ton from a Wolvden name spreadsheet I was working on (and really ought to finish - admins, let me know if you'd ever want access to it, it has about 250 names rn divided into various researched categories and will have 1000+ when done), but I'll just share 15 for now.

  1. Hyperion: A redwood in California, USA. The tallest tree in the world at 115 meters.
  2. Pando: A colony of aspen trees in Utah, USA. Possibly 80,000 years old.
  3. Eigengrau: From Wikipedia: Eigengrau (German for "intrinsic gray"), also called...dark light, or brain gray, is the uniform dark gray background that many people report seeing in the absence of light.
  4. Tungsten: A gray-white chemical element (W, atomic number 74) also known as wolfram, incidentally.
  5. Mustonen: A surname from a Finnish word meaning black.
  6. Helvius: An Ancient Roman cognomen (nickname) meaning honey-yellow or blonde.
  7. Flavius: An Ancient Roman cognomen (nickname) meaning yellow-haired.
  8. Viridian: A bluish-green pigment made from chromium(III) oxide.
  9. Rhydderch: Welsh for reddish-brown.
  10. Flytrap: From the carnivorous Venus flytrap, which is actually native to a tiny part of the Carolinas, USA. Scientific name Dionaea muscipula.
  11. Creosote: Another word for chaparral, scientific name Larrea tridentata. A prominent desert species in North America.
  12. Buckeye: Another name for the horse chestnut tree, Aesculus hippocastanum. Kids use the seeds to play conkers!
  13. Sassafras: An aromatic, deciduous tree. Genus Sassafras.
  14. Del Tule: Derived from Árbol del Tule, the stoutest tree in the world. It is a cypress in Mexico with a trunk measuring 14 meters in diameter.
  15. Kuu: Finnish for moon.

Astridine - from astrid flowers and the gem suffix -ine (of or from); essentially meaning "gem from astrid flowers"
