Wolvden Doesn't Care About It's Disabled Playerbase

Wolvden Doesn't Care About It's Disabled Playerbase

There's already an excellent post here talking about how locking accessibility features behind a paywall is despicable but that's not what I'm here for.

What I'm here for is to talk about the dark-mode (or lack thereof)

"It's coming soon!" And then instead of doing that you pull this April Fools ''joke.'' Which is a big insult not only to the general playerbase who've been asking for something as simple as a dark mode (which, by the way, 3rd parties on the Google Chrome appstore did faster than you) but an insult especially to people like myself who are genuinely light-sensitive and can't look at the base website for long.

I paid for early access. I helped during beta as much as I could with a site I couldn't physically look at for long.

Perhaps I'm a bit biased but this? This isn't funny, Wolvden.

I couldn't even turn off your ''joke'' on my own. I needed help because I couldn't even look at my screen.

While I agree dark mode should be exist this doesn't seem like the way to go about it. The april fools joke isn't really a valid reason to say that it should be a priority and this post overall seems more angry than a suggestion

It's angry because I am angry. I'm angry that they thought it was acceptable to make their site even more inaccessible as a joke. That's not okay, I shouldn't have to explain why or justify my anger at being almost locked out of the game for a day for a cheap gag.

What I mean by pointing out that ''joke'' is that they proved just how easy it would be to swap a few colours to make their site accessible, but instead of doing that they used it to make it worse. The mocking tone of the pop-ups also showed just how seriously they took complaints.

Trying to tone-police disabled folks talking about accessibility issues is also not okay. I am angry and I am well within my rights to be angry.

Agreed. It's very unfair, this should be a top priority especially as the changes required to be accommodating- to be accessible at all, really- would be minimal.

With the April Fools change, Lily, it was brought up because they've shown they're more than able to do these changes. This site is like looking at daylit snow out of a dark house. It's irritating to the eye. It would not be an impossible fix.

Hell, April Fools day could've been made into a soft pastel or muted mode as a preview before rolling dark mode out. Anything but the retina-scalding fully saturated tones it had

A staff member made a dark mode code for an add-on in this thread wolvden.com, and the april fool's joke shows that they can indeed add themes. It doesn't make sense that dark mode hasn't been implemented.

edit: There's also a safety issue of external CSS applicators being granted a ton of permissions when you add them to your browser, ie being able to read everything there is on a page. By having dark mode present on the site itself you save the playerbase the risk of installing these add ons.

Different pov here. In no way am I trying to invalidate what you all are saying, but I do want to open up a little perspective. I think that the devs aren't / haven't made a dark mode for Wolvden because it enables people who understand CSS to make what's in demand for the people (and for some, it also enables them to make currency where they may be struggling in other places). I do agree that I absolutely despise the devs having the auto-feed / play behind a paywall. However, for the dark mode, because there are alternatives made from the community - which increases community interaction - , I think it might actually be a good choice made by the devs.

@Tiger That is a totally understandable perspective, but it shouldn't apply to accessibility features. With the demand for themed CSS, that makes all the sense in the world. But dark mode doesn't fit into that category as its an accessibility feature. making the game more accessible & expanding the playerbase is the staff's job when it comes down to it.

@ Tiger
Responsibility shouldn't be on the playerbase to provide accessibility for ourselves, and putting that behind a paywall as well would just be twisting the knife
Also, a darkmode css would only apply to that user's page, not to the entire site, so I don't see how that's feasible anyway

Idk what’s all the fuss about but taking your anger out on the site isn’t a good start i in fact enjoyed the April fools joke and I believe there is more to it then just changing colors there is also coding for a drop down list to change theme and if anything they are ether dealing with IRL situations so have more empathy on the poor hard working devs or were waiting till they had multiple theme to give you a variety idk but all I know is that patience is key especially for a beginning game like it’s not even a year since PA and devs are people too they don’t have all the time in the world so maybe instead of making a awful topic maybe make something along the lines of hey maybe not now but hopefully soon the game will release a dark mode now that the game is starting to situate nicely or maybe IRL gets better for the devs so they can continue making awesome thing for us
